DM: love that Mystic all around!
  2. Great stuff DM! Nice to see the super hero stuff with a horror 'edge', but it could not be Halloween thread with out an EC.Great book! Thanks for participating in the thread!
  3. here as usual is my personal favorite!!!! fits in pretty well me thinks Absolutely does! Let my copy of this go a few years ago to obtain two other books. Regret it every day!
  4. Thanks Gino, Miss Fury, dressed as a black cat and a full moon! I like full moons myself
  5. Hi all, wanted to kick this post off at Midnight, but i'll start a little early. Gist? :From now till Halloween (31 days of fright)post your Halloween or 'Halloween-esque' covers. Why Halloween-esque? I don't think many obviously Halloween covers(Jack o Lanterns, kids trick or treating) were produced during the golden age as say Christmas covers. So, covers that have things we think of when we think of Halloween : Witches, Black Cats, Cauldrons, Ghosts, Creepy Houses, Bats, Full Moons, Grave Yards, Living Dead, Monsters, Skeletons, Masks, and Vampires (that's 13 !) will all count. I'll get it started with these (cue Michael Jackson Thriller song): Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies 25 (an obvious Halloween cover) Next, Hangman Comics #7, the grave yard and coffin with the full moon and the looming image of our hero complete with bats(out 'batting' Batman!!) certainly screams Halloween I've shown this one plenty before, but here it is again, Manhunt #9, Grim Reaper driving the 'D' for death train to mow down our heroine Star. Complete with skull shape caption And last(for now anyway, depending how boardie participation goes) is this indulgence, forgive me golden age purists, i know this is a bronze age book but this has been one of my favorite covers since my 9 year old eyes saw it back on the news stands in 78. Imo one of the top 25 Batman covers of ANY era, courtesy of Marshal Rogers! Even the new Comic Book Market Place year book just published two weeks ago finally gave this book some love saying it's a travesty it has not received enough recognition. Glad they finally caught up to the 9 year old me. Creepy cover (thumbs u C'mon boardies, get in the 'Spirit'
  6. Love it !!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Comicjack! You have the eye for unusual covers.
  7. That is an awesome cover. Thank you very much Larry. There's always been a creepy allure to ventriloquist dummies: 'Dead of Night', the under appreciated 'Magic', and the 'Twilight Zone' had an episode that stands out. This cover captures that very well.
  8. Guess somebody didn't like the act! But you're no dummies, right boardies? We know this is one cool pre code crime cover, courtesy of Ziff Davis publishing. Another long sought after book down.
  9. Dang Hecklers! Why must people be such dummies? Anyway, i know you all out there are no dummies, and know this is one cool pre code crime book. i have been lucky this year, acquiring many long sought after books. Going to NYC Con with me for grading. Really nice copy, despite what is probably the recommendations of the original owner scrawled in the logo to 'read it',
  10. Congratulations! Monumental effort, gives us all something to shoot for! Take a bow!
  11. Nice cover. Not a Capt. Midnight guy, but a great cover is a great cover! (thumbs u

  14. Dr. Love, as always, thanks for sharing your peerless romance collection. These are some flawless examples. Ace publications had a myriad of genres, and it seems across all those genres some really eye catching covers! (thumbs u

My column form CBM was "The Comicbox" (get it "JBComicbox"? My first article ever for Gary was on Wow, What a Magazine. Loved doing articles on these titles.....And the best thing was getting Jim Mooney to recreate his early wonderful covers......jb So digress to Wow (#2 is first Eisner cover) WOW, what magazines ( )I remember your columns from CBM, lord I miss that magazine! Ever consider being profiled for HA's "Intelligent Collector" magazine? You have great comic related pieces. Jon and his collection were featured in Forbes back when they used to have a collecting story in each issue. do you know what issue specifically? Maybe I can find a back copy on eBay?
