  1. lou_fine - Only 8.0 on the Blue Beetle 52? ONLY? This is one of the TEN ... that is ZEHN ... DIEZ ... KUMI ... that is one of the 10 best copies of 31 total graded copies. There are so many other books - say early Marvels for example that exist in the hundreds and even thousands that sell for $10,000 plus. The question I have is why isn't it already at $10,000 plus ... the demand is there and the supply is so low - perfect storm. I'd rather have a Blue Beetle 52 in 8.0 rather than nearly any silver or bronze age book, but I like GGA. Anyway, when you say it's ALREADY AT $1500... I say it's NOT EVEN AT $1500. The other two Blue Beetles (50 & 51) that you mention as having low bid prices so far - are also cool - but they are BGA - bad girl art - they are angry looking villainesses, stealing, and poised to kill Blue Beetle with a knife and shooting a gun. They are not GGA (Good Girl Art) - the gorgeous blond on 52. She is in bondage and crisis with the hero coming to save the day as the water rises - a real damsal in distress. By the way this is not my book - and I'm not trying to pump it, but if it were - I'd sure want a lot more than $1500 for it - if this book actually sold for $1500 consider what we could go buy with that $1500 - nothing comparable. Your just 8.0 comment just yanked my chain. By the way, there was a time when $1500 would have been high - but that was years ago - prices have changed and as the market becomes more aware of how rare this sort of book is in grades even 5.0 and above - much less 8.0 and above - well you get the idea. That's just my 10 cents. I'm not trying to give you a hard time - but we're talking ten copies in 8.0 and above - the demand far exceeds the supply.
  2. szavisca - Love your thumbnail - and I've got to say ... in today's auction the Phantom Lady 13 might very well be my favorite book of all for value at the moment. It's so cool as it crosses genre's. Horror, Hero and GGA - The cover colors blow me away. It has a gorgeous color palatte with the pale BLUE background and the striking RED of PL's cape and the YELLOW menacing hand and logo - just pure eye candy ... But here's the kicker ... it is the 7th best copy in the world of what are only 41 copies on the census and several of those have been resubmitted .... so we are actually talking about only 30 known copies. On top of that it is a quasi #1 hidden in an issue #13 kinda like the Amazing Fantasy 15 being actually a #1. But on top of all that the book is less than Overstreet miss-guide 2 hours before auction. That boggles my mind. Talk about flying under the radar.
  3. A nice Phantom Lady run - actually one of the best I've seen at one time. I've always thought of Phantom Lady 17 as the king - errr queen of an entire genre of books ... Good Girl Art (GGA). Seems like nice examples in this day and age should be pushing 6 figures. So at 11k on the 7.5 copy - a top ten best copy I'm thinking that book looks pretty tempting. With all the talk on the Action 1 - Tec 27 - Cap 1 - Bat 1 ... they are all close to fully priced. It's getting harder and harder to target under - priced books, but it seems like Phantom Lady in this auction is, gulp - relatively affordable and dare I say it...under valued. Overstreet Price Guide #8 features a stunning Good Girl Art Cover ...that was my first price guide (SMILE) ... but here is a mind-blowing thought to me ... not even one Good Girl Art book is even on the Overstreet Top 100 books list at present - correct me if I'm wrong. Yes, I know an argument can be made for Wonder Woman/Sensation - but she is a mix of traditional hero and good girl art. I suppose the same could be said about Phantom Lady .... but here's my point...GGA is poorly represented on the Overstreet Top 100 list, BUT if most collectors could have any 100 golden age comics ... surely we'd have several GGA books in our piles. I would personally take a Phantom Lady 17 over a lot of other books currently in the Overstreet Top 100. Overstreet has a list of the top 10 bronze age, and the top 10 war comics, and the top ten horror comics ... I'd like to see a top 10 good girl art books - Phantom Lady 17, Startling 49, Blue Beetle 54, Archie 50 (there is a very nice one of those in this auction), Planet - Rangers - Wings - Jungle - Jumbo - etc. ...What are the top 10 good girl art books? By value? Anybody know? The GGA genre isn't cheap, but it is cheap compared to some of the other genres and in that it has a lot of room to grow. Many of the golden age GGA books sell so rarely it's tough to know what they are really worth in the current market - Personally, with so many books fully valued or even over valued the Phantom Lady 17 at 11k is real value - so I'm tracking it. And when I see the Phantom Lady 23, stunning book and it is the 2nd best known copy of only a handful of copies and it's currently $5,000 on Heritage - it boggles my mind - for many reasons. Full disclosure - I don't own any of these, but I'm tracking. I'm enjoying watching the Bat 1 - Cap 1 battle just like everyone else - but the real winner today might be whoever walks away with some of the best Phantom Lady's in the world - all she needs is a movie - Ha - Ha. Just something to toss out their until the Heritage Auction goes down later today.
  4. The Planet 58 that is and thank you very much!
  5. Sorry, I'm not sure if that's it or not? Again all I have is an actual paper back book (novel) - with no pictures. I thought the original series was released like in three different books with a different hero on the front ... Super, Wonder, Bat ... and all three together formed the complete story? But I figured all of them had probably been compiled in one graphic novel. I see different things with different covers there are bunch of books that have Jusitice Society on the title? Are these follow up books or different covers for the same thing or what. Like I said hoped somebody on the boards would say - buy this and you'll be set. I don't have to have chromium - limited edition covers - hard back is not necessary ... just want to know what kingdom come book to buy and on top of that are there follow up books or additional materials in the series. Thank you for any reply.
  6. I am looking for the best kingdom come graphic novel to buy - by best I mean good value. I have the paper back story version without graphics, but my son was interested in reading the story with all of the art and when I looked on line so many versions and reprints and special editions etc. I was overwhelmed ... and hoped somebody on the boards would telll me would be a good affordable version to get on amazon or wherever?
  7. Ai - Yi - Yi ... Bat-Hound! A picture! WoW! Thanks for sharing ... real stunner for the grade and a keeper for sure. It ain't a $900 book anymore ... and I can't imagine why you'd sell it for less than 5 figures now. If you sold it for 10 grand or more - really how would you ever replace it ... and what would you rather have for the same money? I know there are equivalent value books - but for me it is definitely a book -- Congrats. Earlier in this thread someone said a 6.5 was for sale in an auction now? What auction? Link? Anybody?
  8. Good question ... especially if you are thinking how best to spend your hard earned money ... here's my 2 cents.... I mean really the smoking gun cover...great color scheme - rich black - lots of eye-popping red to make it pop --- with enough deep green to really accent ... great subject matter with the giant joker looming over batman and robin. Just a monster cool cover and on top of that it's easily in my opinion and apparently a lot of other collectors one of the top 3 Joker covers - I love Batman 11 and Detective 62 also - but with that said There is always the little matter of supply and demand ... Detective 69 CGC 7.0 or better 12 copies - 10 grand or so and up to get one ... Batman 11 CGC 7.0 or better 26 copies - 10 grand or so and up to get one... Incr Hulk 1 CGC 7.0 or better 89 copies - 40 grand or so and up to get one ... Am Spid 14 CGC 7.0 or better 687 copies - 1 or 2 grand or so and up to get one ... Personally - the Detective 69 and Bat 11 are stunningly cheap if they are going for a grand a point when - in my opinion - They are far more rare and desirable than say a Hulk 1. Of course if you prefer Hulk to Batman and Silver to Gold and Marvel to DC and more common to rare - etc etc - you probably feel differently. And clearly there are lot of Am Spider 14's - even though the demand is high - the book is common in comparison to the Detec 69 and the Bat 11 as equivalent key hero - key villain appearance books. I think the more appropriate question would be why isn't the Tec 69 going at 4 or 5 thousand dollars a point - while you are questioning that it is 1 thousand ... Hey you know what? If you can get an 8.0 Detective 69 for 8 thousand bucks ... I suggest you buy it ... because you may just find out it's a whole lot more than a thousand dollar a point book ... I would think it would be more in the 4 or 5 k a point book in due time and the market will figure that out ... in fact I think it's figuring that out right now. I mean the demand is insane - the supply is well - look at the supply for a Hulk 1 7.0 --- now look at the supply for a Detective 69 - Notice in this thread that the board is almost surprised and a little giddy with excitement to see a 69 pop up at Auction in 6.5 ... Question what auction is selling the Detective 69 in grade 6.5? Clearly the demand far outstrips the supply of one of the coolest Batman and Joker Covers. I remember being at show some years ago - when the dealer I was talking to said the day would come that you couldn't get an Amazing Fantasy 15 for under a grand and a high grade copy would sell for a 100 grand - I didn't disagree, but I didn't see it at the time. I see it now. I remember when the Detective 31 could be had in lower grade at prices similar to the Detective 69 now. I thought about buying a 31 but held back saying what you are saying - hey this is like the 3rd Batman cover ---(as you say hey 69 is like the 3rd Joker cover) - in hind site I should have bought a Detective 31 then. Look at Detective 31 now - I think Detective 69 is going to follow in the footsteps of 31. Personally - golden age (off-keys not keys not junk, but off key hero) is relatively cheap in comparison to many books - I think the Marvel Mystery 60 -great Schomburg cover- that recently sold on comiclink - I think page 2- in 8.5 and the third highest copy for $2375 - - makes me want to ask how is this book only worth $300 a point - I think not -- In the scheme of things I think that book should be worth 4 or 5k - or $500 a point - it's rare - it's desirable - and yet many silver and even some bronze books are selling for equivalent or greater prices. In hindsight if I could put the scratch together - I should have bought that MM60 ... but I digress ... just got some time on my hands - and realize the comic market still has a lot of upside - if the money is there - when the question is raised - regarding Detective 69 being worth a thousand dollars a point - the historical prices might suggest this - but supply and demand do not ... and our market still has a lot of growing up to do. I guess I write this most of all when I see random bronze and silver age Avengers, Batmans, Hulks, Conans etc - selling in the 4 figures - granted extreme high grade - but they are still common books ... they are not Golden Age - and as an advanced collector I appreciate them for what they are - but they are not Golden Age. This is all in my humble opinion ... but Detective 69 is for a DC - Bat - Joker fan a top tier - key ... it's as simple as that ... I personally wonder why a book where in 7.0 and up there are only 12 known graded copies in the world - could be had for less than 5 figures? I'm curious to your thoughts ... Why do you think Detective 69 is not a thousand a point book? PS There is Detec 69 in 3.5 on Ebay for 5 grand, but that would be about $1500 a point - and I think the price just goes up from there in grade. It presents nicely except for the big rat chew out of the bottom corner - has great pages - the notes say missing some significant material inside - that bothers me - but all in all - not a bad book - and not really a bad price - not my book by the way -- just pondering it.
  9. I recently bought the HP8500 legal size printer scanner etc at Staples. So far my scans are blurry .... so I'm underwhelmed, but because I am a novice at scanning will continue to tinker, but right now I get a much sharper picture from my digital Kodak camera than I do my scanner. I bought the scanner new on sale for less than 300 ... and it was the only Legal Size scanner they sold. If anybody uses this is there a way to sharpen the scan? Maybe it's the field or depth issue mentioned earlier in this thread, but it maybe there are things I can do to get a better scan and I don't know what they are.
