  1. A 9.2 sold at a discount on Ebay for $7500. This copy last traded less than a year ago in august of 2018 for $9,000 also on ebay. Recent sales of 9.2's were $8600 in April, 11,251 on 9/1/18 and the $9,000 on 8/31/18.

  2. A 9.8 is coming to auction over on Heritage on 7/12. This one looks like its first time being publicly sold (at least going back to 2005 where my data starts). It's one of only 28 9.8's out there, according to the CGC census (24 Universal, 1 Qualified, 3 SS). Last sales were $38.2K on 5/12/18 and $35.8K on 2/23/18.

Any guesses what the final price is (including buyer's premium)?  In my opinion, it tops the last sale and gets into the $50K area due to strength in the recent auction of the Turtlemania gold as well as length of time since a 9.8 TMNT #1 has been on the market. The US equities market overall strength helps also.

Took six months but finally got this back from CGC.  TMNT #1 Full Counterfeit.  A masterfully done reproduction that could easily fool unsuspecting or uneducated buyers.  A cool piece of TMNT history.

    TMNT-01-Counterfeit_CGC-9.0_front-top.jpg

Congratulations! I've only seen an altered copy of a 3rd printing, not an actual counterfeit copy. So in your post "Great thread for TMNT #1 buyers! (thumbs u Here is some of the info:" which rules does this counterfeit break or is it a perfectly done one?

  4. Loved the series and the final episode was great just as it was. It's clear that in this day and age of instant gratification of every whim via app, and the ability to find any echo chamber of our liking, that anything and everything is going to be criticized. But I don't own the show and am simply happy to have experienced it over the years.

John Snow's fate was the biggest surprise to me. With the wars he always had something to do but as they ended by his hand, it makes sense that he needed something to do that fit with his persona. Night's Watch - sounds good to me.

I can see the council of leaders disgusted so much by the capitol being burned to the ground that they just upend everything. Tyrion as a spokesperson was a little awkward but if noone else would offer any ideas, I can't see his character sitting still. Arya going on her mission to wherever - fitting. Sansa being the queen of Winterfell - just right.

Great show. Going to miss it. I guess I'll see how the prequels measure up.

  5. It's not your job to do the dealer's due diligence. But if your conscience bothers you, like someone said, if he believed it was missing then he likely bought it for a discounted price anyways. He had a chance to research it himself and that's his business.

I sold a book Turtles book on ebay that I believed wasn't an error edition (not Tales of TMNT #1/#4 2nd print). The buyer came back to me later and said "Thanks! that WAS the error edition!" No effort to give me extra $, nor did I even ask. I had the chance to research it, did, and was wrong. My mistake and I chalk it up to next time paying more attention.

  6. Another 9.6 sale to report, signed by E&L interior cover. This time on ebay for $20,000 (seller confirmed). But this is a step up from the previous sale of $14,400 on Heritage.

Interestingly, the same seller sold another 9.6 (unsigned) last October for about the same price. Must be nice to have multiples of this big daddy laying around!

Allow me to be the first to say ouch...the consignor is taking a bit of a bath on this one.  There were a couple potential, issues with this one that may have kept the price down a bit but I'm still pretty shocked to see it go as low as it did.

    1. If you look at the pictures of the book from its auction a year ago the case has a lot of new scuffs on it...they should have reholdered it.  Especially that lower left corner, its impossible to tell from the scan if that's damage too the book, or the holder.  I'm guessing the holder, but I'm not guessing on a 10k+ book...I'm waiting on the next one.

    2. Off white/white pages  vs white.

    3. Maybe signed/sketched on copies aren't as popular as some would like to think.  I know I don't want it on any book over a 6.0.

    4. Taxes could be keeping the bids down a tad.

I still think this book has a ton of room for growth, and someone got a bargain today.  If they ever make a good TMNT movie or TV show, the sky's the limit.

This was a dip in the price of 9.6's that is certain. Ironically, the same book sold exactly 1 year ago for just under this price ($14,340).

I didn't see the scratches in the case but everyone wants new and shiny so that could factor in. OW/W may be a slight factor but not much more than the case in my opinion. The signatures don't really have much positive influence either by my observations.

This may end up being a good move for the HA seller as I think they only take 10% on books you resell that you purchased from them.

Additionally they have this 9.6 listed as one of their featured auction items for the first time, previous 9.6s have been Saturday books.

Who knows but this may bring in some non comic savvy whales who wouldn’t normally bid on a book like this.

Just saw this, above $10K there is no commission on resale through HA.  That's a nice perk since they really stick it to you on the first sale.

    • Comics: 50% reduction in seller's commission for all items between $1K & $10K, and no seller's commission for items $10K and over.

Also, the 9.6 on HA is up to $9K with buyers premium.

Lo and behold another 9.6 is coming to Heritage. This one is OW/W and starts on Feb. 1!  Cash in your 401K now and buy it! (just kidding of course, don't do that). Last on sold for $18.5K on 11/29/18.

    https://comics.ha.com/itm/modern-age-1980-present-/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-1-mirage-studios-1984-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/p/7204-120011.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

An update on this 9.6, Heritage has posted photos and we can see that this book (CGC # 1294822001) sold less than a year ago on 2/23/18 for $14,340, also on HA. It looks like someone is trying to flip from that price which is a bold move since HA takes a big piece of any sales price.

New 9.4 listing coming up for April bidding:

Thanks for the thoughts!  The lack of data is definitely frustrating, but yeah... it does look like a 50% discount is approximately what to expect... Guess I'll see what the tax fairy brings and go from there with the assumption I may be able to get 3-4 out of this one.

The sales I was looking at (am I reading GPA wrong?) were, in reverse chronological order:

9.0 (SP) February 26, 2012: $1,300 (same book as the previous sale)

    9.0 (SP) December 16, 2011: $800

9.4 (SP) June 12, 2011: $1,623 (CGC Verification doesn't have a match for this number...??)

9.4 (SP) April 04, 2011: $1,700 (wondering if this is the same book as above...)

9.0 (SA) July 28, 2007: $760 (this is my purchase of the book above.. the most I'd ever spent on a comic at the time! The resub last year turned it in to 9.2 (C-1))

    tmntPLOD.jpg.355421b60805b3f05ace7e7f3de4a58b.jpg

There's this kind of crazy flip of an 8.5 with much more restoration back in 2014... not bad for a week's worth of work!

    Ok great thanks for this.

    >9.0 (SP) February 26, 2012: $1,300 (same book as the previous sale)

    >9.0 (SP) December 16, 2011: $800

This was a very nice flip. Didn't have this data. Thanks.

    >9.4 (SP) June 12, 2011: $1,623 (CGC Verification doesn't have a match for this number...??)

    >9.4 (SP) April 04, 2011: $1,700 (wondering if this is the same book as above...)

Not the same CGC#. Teh same on 4/4/11 was the one I referenced above, a Comic Connect sale for CGC# 1003475001. Link here: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=373482

Looks like you got your book for a song. Nice buy! And I wouldn't undersell what you have, btw. Prices have been trending higher for both 1st and 2nd prints since 2017. If I had your book I would price it at $4999 and go down from there until sold. GL!

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what I might be able to expect to get for my 9.2 Apparent (slight color touch on cover)?  I'm thinking about trying to sell this and upgrade to a Universal as tax season comes around... Very few Apparent sales figures on GPA though...

The 2 9.0 Apparents (2007 and 2012) have no other sales during those years but appear to be about half (or a little less) of the Universal for the years on either side.

The 9.4 Apparent (2012) also went for a little less than half of the Universal value that year.

With 9.2's going b/t about $8k and $11k over the last year, does $4k sound like a reasonable assumption?

Pretty sure I've posted these scans before, but here's a looksee:

The short answer is that there's not much data to go on and its been so long since what was there that I would err on the higher end of a listing price.  Auctions can be so hit or miss. Is it your observation that qualified lables tend to go for half the blue label value? From the GPA data I have as well as my observed sales there was only one purple label sale since 2005: CGC #1003475001 in 2011 for like you said, about half a blue label's price. If you have 2 other purple label sales, could you share them?

    I have 6 sales of 9.2's in 2018, average price $9,258.

As consignor of the 9.6 I don’t feel like it went for a horrid price.  Would I have liked it to get the all out insane Hulk 181 treatment? Sure, but that market seems primed for a correction.

I got  about double what I got it for 3 years ago... so no tears here.

As for it being 2 k below the last reported sale... who knows a bit of randomness or maybe the effect of so many people getting charged state sales tax now.

It doesn't surprise me at all knowing the fluctuations of books within this price range and this rarity. Next one could be 22K, who knows.

Technically $18,488.50 and $6,756.80 if you're keeping close track because CLink charges a 3% buyers fee.  Can't leave that off any more than you can Heritage's 20%.

Ok, so all Comic Link final prices have an additional 3% fee not displayed in the total?

Do they still charge 10% on postage too? That used to annoy me.

    Yes.

And paypal takes 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction. So if you sell a lot of individual comics like I do, it works out to 4-5% actually.

That isn't a USPS issue, Fedex and UPS mangle packages too, it's whether these sorts of items should be shipped in envelopes at all. If that is a slab, that is pretty treacherous to try and jam it into a legla size envelope. The nice thing about those envelopes is that if you do pack via the sandwhich method, you can fit a TON of backing into them and make it like 2-3 inches thick or, if you have thn boxes, or mailers that act like boxes, you can fit them in there. Of course, if you are shipping within your region that difference between Flat Rate Legal and a sub- 3 pound box can be nominal.

    This.

Out of the thousands of comics I've shipped through USPS and UPS, the further it goes the more stuff happens. I used to mark in large letters "FRAGILE" and "DO NOT BEND" on individual comic packages until I noticed that anything being sent beyond the middle of the country (I'm on the east coast) would get returns at times. I put comics between two pieces of stiff cardboard and firmly attach the sleeve to them with lots of tape. What was happening was they were arriving with the plastic sleeves breached and the comics inevitably becoming stuck to the tape. This could only have happened if some clown was literally frisbeeing my envelope and hitting something very hard. It happened several times and I lost probably $100 to returns before I changed my packaging slightly. Now I put every book in another Priority Mail envelope and then attach that to the cardboard. This protects against any overzealous postal employees. I also don't mark anything in huge letters anymore which seemed to invite abuse. Haven't had a problem with new method since starting it a year ago.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or does this CGC 8.0 Star Wars 1 really have its bottom corner missing?:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-1-CGC-8-0-VF-1st-Printing/163405803833?hash=item260bbeb139%3Ag%3A7oEAAOSwWrxcAKHd&LH_Auction=1

It looks like the cover overhangs the interior pages a bit and it is cut off (or folded? doubt CGC would leave it that way when encapsulating). It's an 8.0 so a generous grade for such a defect imho.

Won this Thursday night on off C-Link. (I finally own one 🤗)

    Great pick up.

This edition is one of my "ones that got away". There was an ebay listing, mislabeled where the seller was just selling a bunch of turtles comics and I was bidding it as well as another person. We kept bidding it up to where it was obvious something was valuable under the surface. My max price was just outbid of course. Doh!

  18. Been quiet here (I couldn't logon for a couple weeks, don't know if others had that issue) and quiet in TMNT #1 sales lately. A 9.0 just sold on ebay for ~$8,000 on 11/6. This is in line with recent sale prices of 6.7K and another 8K both in June.
