  1. Could you tell me how you can find these terrific books ? Did you move to the US lately ?
  2. Congatulations, it is a wonderful book to add to your already wonderful collection. Thank you for sharing. The one who bid against you must not be a showcase thread reader, it seemed obvious it was you !
  3. The 9.0 SC#1 on Heritage is a white pages "Motor city" which must say "Northland" as Bomber-Bob said (and not a "Northford", another confusion I made tonight). I think I need some sleep and I'm going back to my golden age readings before doing another mistake !
  4. It i a 9.6 Gaines file. Now that's rare I don't think he realized you were asking about Showcase 1, maybe he thought you meant his Kamandi or something. The highest graded SC 1 is 'only' a 9.0 . I think the 9.0 Showcase 1 is the Northland copy ? You're right, I read too fast and spoke about EC Extra. Sorry for the confusion. My SC#1 is only 6.0. I can't remember if the 9.0 is a Northford, but I think it is still in Heritage sales list.
  5. You are so right ! Boba, you are one of the kindest and wisest person I ever met ! Thanks
  6. Another comic I once have dreamed to have ! In fact, I just saved money from 2012 to 2013 to buy one (last 6.0 sale in 2012 was around $6000 I think). Well, I had to wait a little more than one year before seeing a nice one for sale again. A this time, a 5.0 was sold $9000 and the 6.0 was sold around $12 000. So long my SC#4... Well, with the spare money I bought SC#13, #17, #30, #76, an Extra #1 and I upgraded my Kamandi #1. Some people around here will tell me that I should have bought a lower grade SC#4 but I am not an investor and only a happy collector.
  7. Very altruistic ! Too bad I can't buy it right now, it would have been perfect with my other 9.0... But I am budget-conscious even if your SC#37 is a comic I would have dreamed to have ! Just have spent money for my home loan and to buy my wife a new handbag for her birthday !
  8. It sure would Did Boba decide to sell his 37 ? Thought I saw one pending...
  9. For an absolute Marvel fan, the beginning of the silver age can be FF#1. But if you are really looking for the milestone of the new super-heroes era, it is definitively SC#4. SC#4 was a bold and innovative attempt even for DC. When Showcase started, Jack Schiff thought to premiere "forest rangers and boy scouts", not super-heroes. Marvel would not have thought to launch a new line of super-powered guys if DC sales were not strong. But Marvel fans will continue to argue about this for years and years...
  10. Very nice Sea Devils ! Wonderful grey tone covers and Russ Heath art is amazing ! One of my favorite silver age run.
  11. A very nice book indeed. If anyone wants to offer it to me, I'll take it ! It was already too expensive before the SC#4 prices explode. I will definitively won't buy it unless I sell my house... I think only the Bethlehem SC#4 has a better grade, this is the second best pedigree for this issue. Well, we will see where it gets...
  12. Wonderful thread ! Thank you all for sharing..
  13. The last Don/Maggie I picked on Heritage. My next objective is to get a challengers. If anyone has one to sell 6.0 or better, feel free to PM !
  14. Congratulations Sam, you have a wonderful Showcase collection and assembled it very quickly ! Some of the issues you miss are very scarce, hope you will get them soon. Nice you got the #62 Curator. I tried to bid on it but it was quickly outbid ! Curator Showcases are hard to find (I only know six of them), so it is always a great add to a collection. Congrats !
  15. For Showcase and pedigrees fans, here is of an update of a former post. I hope it will help you to chose which pedigree Showcase to collect. Note only graded comics were used. In case of multiple copies, only highest book is kept (for instance, there is less Boston but average grade is higher). As you can see, Don/Maggie is a beautiful pedigree for Showcase with nice page quality.
  16. I cannot use your link, what was the price ?? I do need a showcase #11 ! My next objective is to get a challengers issue. Unfortunately, I must wait and save a lot. I spent to much bidding on Heritage for Don/Maggie books. I am off-budget now...
  17. Don/Maggie is really a grat collection for showcase. You are very lucky to own six of them. Here is one I got a few wekks back. Very nice book but there are some tears on back cover edge which justify the grade,
  18. Stay budget conscious boba ! Collecting must bring fun and happiness And I am sure you have a wonderful collection. You already have wonderful sc 4 and 37. A lot of people would dream to have these !
  19. I saw them this morning - they did get up there. My one Don/Maggie pedigree win from last weeks Sunday auction. Unlike the ones you got, this came off of the El-Cheapo rack Post your wins Sam, so we can all ogle 'em. 'specially the Metal Men's Great book boba. 52 is so scarce that a 9.2 is a nice win even green label ! Don/Maggie will be a wonderful pedigree for showcase, I will post pedigree stats updated when I come back from holidays.
  20. Wonderful books Sam ! Tried to bid on them but they were far beyond my max bid. 37 remains hard to find, the last 9.2 and 9.0 were sold for insane prices...
  21. Totally forgot to bid - remembered at 11:15 Oh well . . . Too bad ! I was sure it was you ! Well, I am sure a better one is waiting for you If by saying better you mean cheaper - right on I'm a cheap sonavagun who'd be happy with a 7+/- copy. I don't have the budgets to buy nosebleed grades all the time, But I do appreciate you rooting for me to win it. I guess I must've known it'd go high. Prolly why I "forgot" to bid. Subconsciously being budget conscious. All those Thompsons seemed to. I actually snagged the #52 - no one bid on it. My copy is a 6.0 I believe - its an upgrade even with the staple pop. So I will soon have at least 1 Thompson ped in my set. That's an important lesson : being budget conscious ! I should be more and I'd better stop wasting my money buying comics to offer my wife better holidays ! I hope my wife will not read this post !
  22. Don/Maggie Showcase are very difficult to win. I have been outbig (again ) in all last auctions. The only issue which was sold at a correct price was #54. I only hope boba's the happy winner of this one ! Totally forgot to bid - remembered at 11:15 Oh well . . . Too bad ! I was sure it was you ! Well, I am sure a better one is waiting for you
