  1. Probably the biggest surprise of the auction for me. 7, 9, and 10 all went a bit higher than I would have guessed, but 20 was much, much higher than I would have guessed. I’m glad I grabbed a copy a few months ago.
  2. Great pick ups @Markentoth! 15 is a tough one. How close are you to completing the run now? Boardies did very well in the CC auction. Out of the 20 rivet issues sold, 15 are confirmed boardie purchases. Anyone here win 1, 12, 14, 19, or 20?
  3. I did pick up one of the books last night. Unfortunately, I did not pick up issue 5 which is the last rivet I need, but I did upgrade my Planet 6. Yes, a 2.5 is an upgrade!
  4. I think I have the final prices for all of them except for #8 and #16. Planet #1 CGC 5.0 Universal - $6,488 Planet #2 CGC 8.0 Universal (Berk) - $13,800 Planet #2 CGC 6.5 Restored - $1,651 Planet #3 CGC 4.0 Conserved - $1,305 Planet #5 CGC 4.5 Universal - $2,271 Planet #6 CGC 2.5 Universal - $925 Planet #7 CGC 5.0 Universal - $2,655 Planet #9 CGC 5.0 Universal - $2,261 Planet #10 CGC 5.0 Universal - $3,600 Planet #11 CGC 7.0 Universal - $3,600 Planet #12 CGC 8.0 Universal (Cage) - $4,400 Planet #14 CGC 5.0 Restored - $1,850 Planet #15 CGC 2.5 Universal - $3,500 Planet #17 CGC 5.0 Universal - $4,311 Planet #18 CGC 3.5 Universal - $1,300 Planet #19 CGC 4.0 Universal - $650 Planet #20 CGC 6.0 Universal - $2,350 Planet #21 CGC 6.0 Universal - $1,445
  5. It is indeed my friend. And the rivet issues are especially intoxicating. You did very well tonight.
  6. I assume you mean the Berk copy. Exceptional book! Well done Tim. I was the under bidder on the 5, the last rivet issue I needed. I’ll finish off the rivets someday! Congrats on your pick ups!
  7. Yes, both your new 17 and your 18 are unicorns. Those colors are unreal. The Toledo Planets are not very high grade on average but tend to have very strong colors.
  8. Very nice! I especially like the deep reddish-orange background on that 40
  9. You and your love of Planet 17! I tapped out at $3,800 or so. Honestly, I think this is the prettiest copy of this book I have ever seen. The reds are amazing and white pages too! Congrats Rick
  10. Wow, about an hour to go in the CC auction and the prices on several of the Planets are already nuts! Good luck to all the boardies bidding in this one.
  11. Congrats @SuperGrover and @mwotka on your Planet 12 pick ups. A book I really like that’s a bit underrated in my opinion. I love how you can see the end of the chain in the man’s hand as he was going to assist the tied up woman before being frozen while in the act. Not an easy book to acquire.
  12. 30 is almost definitely a Doolin. The girl looks like a Doolin girl for sure. I have never been convinced that 65 is a Doolin, doesn’t really look like his work to me. I don’t know that the cover artist has been established.
  13. 27 is an issue that seems to suffer from muted reds on many copies. The 4 armed dinosaur creature often looks brown, not deep reddish orange. The colors on your copy are quite nice.
  14. More than 2 days without a post in the Planet thread? Unacceptable! Not high grade but I still love it.
  15. Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, Planet #33 is not that scarce, but has huge demand. It’s just such a sweet cover. Honestly, my Planet Comics collection wouldn’t be anywhere near what it is today if not for this place. The boards are such an awesome resource. I purchased many of the toughest issues right here, including issues 1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 17, 21, and that 33. My advice to the OP, buy GA on the boards!
  16. As many others have already said, it’s definitely not too late to start collecting GA. I was a SA collector for the last 8 years and then last summer I purchased my first GA book, a copy of Planet Comics 11. Since then, I don’t think I’ve purchased a single book published after 1953. It’s so much more challenging than SA (which is what makes it so fun). Of course, you should stay away from Planet Comics, I don’t need more competition! But who can resist books like these?
  17. OK, you two, time to stop showing off!
  18. @Markentoth Wow! We got Sean to post outside of the selling forum! OK, it's possible I'm a bit biased when it comes to Planet 14, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I think your restored 6.0 is glorious as is. As I've already stated, I think there is a place for restoration removal. If it doesn't destroy original pieces of the book and make it look incredibly ugly, then I'm not against it. Adding a blue label copy of #14 to the census doesn't happen every day. I'd be happy to see this one in a nice presenting blue label slab. I doubt your copy would end up looking like the current book in question. @comicjack ,honest question, who is Matt?
  19. I am really sorry if the winner was a boardie. We all have different personal preferences and different budgets, so in all honesty, I'm not judging! It's still a Planet 1 and worth owning. This conversation is beyond this one book (for me anyway). One of the things I have always heard about the difference between restoration and recreation is that restoration is "reversible." However, if this is what is meant by reversible, then we have changed the meaning of the word. I do not believe the book looked anything like this prior to color touch. Once again, it just makes me sad. I do believe pieces of the original book were removed in the process of removing color touch. The book was published nearly 80 years ago, and 80 year old pieces were chipped off in the process of making it a blue label. I'm sad for those 80 year old pieces now lost forever.
  20. There is a very nice Billy Wright pedigree copy coming to auction soon on HA...
