  1. Shipping: Certified books, shipping is included FREE within North America, ROW we split it. Raw books, include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Pricing: I try to price books close to fair market value. I am open to offers but it's not very likely I'm going to be accepting offers at 30% off fair market value.
  2. I have used it for a few weeks now and although I am 'used' to the new version, I am still not a fan. What I have noticed though, as I navigate other sites that have updated (CGC, airlines, etc) is that this is the wave of the future. Sites are made to be primarily cell phone friendly and PC / Laptop friendly last...and this is where my primary beef is. I really dislike using the site on my laptop because it requires a lot of scrollling with a lot of wasted, empty space...which is exactly the same problem I had (and still have to some degree) on this CGC site. Just sooooo much wasted space and white areas that made the old software (both CGC and GPA) so much quicker to navigate and read. But I don't see that changing. And it's not a 'GPA' thing. This the wave of the future for all portable device friendly software for the near to mid future, it seems. ---------------------------------------------------------- I also still think there are too many steps to get to what I want. 3 clicks should be the max (like the old site) ----------------------------------------------------------- Finally, something that I think is not going to change (and is my largest complaint) tied with my 1st complaint which is too much wasted space, is that I have to look up one issue at a time. And I've heard this complaint by others as well who either price multiple issues or price books but like to use surrounding issues for comparables. But I don't think this is going to change either. ----------------------------------------------------------- As far as changes happening, I'll give George the benefit of the doubt as we did just over the largest holiday season of the year and he did mention that he is listening to all concerns and making changes.
  3. are you accusing heritage of 'juicing?' The juicing may not actually be intentional. Every digital camera / scanner captures details differently and none is perfect. Most are close but I don't think I've ever seen a perfect scan where a book looks exactly like the natural book in hand.
  4. Context is important. I've been here for 16 years and never once told someone how to collect. If anything, I've always been supportive of people to collect however they feel suits them best, so if you felt that way it wasn't intentional. And as I said, it was a bit of a mix-up, mainly in part because of laziness on my part because I didn't go searching down Joe's old post a few pages prior and quoting it into the discussion. Little did I know the reaction I'd get. Apologies. Again (and this just goes for me) the thrill has always been to handle the real thing, not a similar thing. If I want to hold a Ditko Spidey in 9.4 raw then substituting a similar smelling book isn't the same, in much the same way that driving around in a Porsche 356 Replica is not the same as driving the real thing. Even if sometimes the replica is more reliable and less tempermental than the original. For me, it's about the authenticity of the experience and how close I can get to the day that any particular book was printed (or collectible was made). For me, that is what collecting has always been about, no matter what I collected. -------------------------------------------- I'll be clear so that there is no misunderstandings: I've always believed people can collect whatever they want and I've never begrudged anyone for how they collect (although I do admit I've several times lamented about the latest wave of fad and movie collectors who just chase the hot item of the day but again, to each their own) and I've even stood up for people's unpopular collecting habits and taken flak for it on here from other boardies. So hopefully we can all get along here and move past this.
  5. What neck of the woods is this collection from?
  6. This book was unlike anything else before it and it still holds up almost 40 years later. It changed comics. We may not have had the Batmania of 1989 if this book wasn't published. And this isn't a sales pitch. It's my favorite story arc of all time. If anyone wants it at 25% off this will be the last discount (which I was planning on doing anyway )
  7. This is what is left at 25% off. This is the final discount. Scans are in the thread. Captain Marvel #26 CGC 9.4 OWW - Asking $250 (shipping included) DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #22 CGC 9.6 White - Asking $200 (shipping included) Tales Of Suspense #69 CGC 9.2 OWW - Asking $400 (shipping included) Tales Of Suspense #93 CGC 9.6 OWW - Asking $400 (shipping included)
  8. My comment really was indirectly related to your comment about using Masterworks but was more directed at Joe Ankenbauer's comments (quoted below but which are actually from several pages back) about it being 'just plain nuts' reading expensive slabbed books. That's why I quoted Joe's quote and your quote when I posted that initial reply. I wanted Joe to see my reply. I was trying to show that it isn't 'plain nuts' and that people do it all the time. Bedrock, PeeWee, adamstrange, me, just to name a few. Compared to the old chat board software, the quoting system on this new chat forum software is not very easy to use when you want to quote multiple quotes from different pages and I was lazy in not quoting the most important part of my point (which is now quoted below) So I guess, does Joe Ankenbauer deserve retribution for calling people who crack their slabs nuts? Where was the outrage when Joe "insulted" a bunch of collectors? I wasn't offended by his comments. I was simply offering another perspective Should anyone be getting offended? Come on people, lighten up. It was just meant to be a fun discussion.
  9. I've moved the Megaton Explosion #nn CGC 9.8 White to another venue because I think 20% off is too cheap for that book. If someone is interested they can talk to me about it. One book left. Batman: Dark Knight Returns #1 CGC 9.6 White - Asking $180 AVAILABLE AT 20% OFF
  10. Thread has been updated with 2 books left. Batman: Dark Knight Returns #1 CGC 9.6 White - Asking $180 (shipping included) Megaton Explosion #nn CGC 9.8 White - extremely tough book to find, 1st app of Youngblood by Rob Liefeld, Promotional Issue - Asking $750 (shipping included)
  11. Or I was just trying to show that some collectors aren't afraid to handle expensive books (like you when you cracked all of your books out a few years ago) or adamstrange, who keeps his collection raw. It wasn't a judgement, Just as if I'd said "I don't understand how someone can find a Corvette attractive" if I found them unattractive. A judgement would be if I said it was wrong. The main point for me was that the Masterworks weren't a sufficient substitute because I enjoy the smell and feel of the raw comics but I do also understand the reason people keep them slabbed - preservation, store of value, liquidity and presentation (among other things). I've always said to each their own.
  12. The discussion of whether the sky is falling or rebounding happens every few years. People have been completely convinced that the sky is either falling or rebounding every few years on these chat forums (I've been involved in many of the discussions of the last 16 years) People were convinced the sky was falling around 2010 (give or take a few years) when several Pedigrees (3 I think) all showed up at the same time that the stock market collapsed and pressing became a public thing. AF #15 did a pull back about 10 years ago after a record breaking sale at the hobby in an uproar (Comiclink sold a 9.4 for about $212K IIRC) Same thing happened when a copy of AF #15 isold for silly money ($50K I think for a raw copy as it was before CGC existed) through Sothebys over 20 years ago. You guys and gals need to remember that there was a time when AF #15 (or Action #1 or pre Robin Tecs or whatever the flavor of the year is) were not 'hot' books and would sit unsold for long periods of time. Fact is, the market is now too hyper focused and reactive to know. We'll probably know in a few years in much the same way that you don't know if a recession (or a depression) has started till after some time has passed.
  13. Testify, Sweet Lou! Some people like to flip through the original comics because that is the point of it. I did. The prized books in my collection were mostly raw and I flipped through them regularly. Marvel Comics #1, Marvel Mystery #2-13, Action #7, #15, some pre Robin Detective Comics etc. I don't understand how you can be a collector and not want to look at your comics.
  14. I have odd books kicking around and am going to post them as I come across them. Captain Marvel #26 CGC 9.4 OWW Asking $250 (shipping included)
