  1. Since I am a buyer and not a seller or flipper like many of you, I respectfully disagree. This will be a $700 book in the next 30 days. Let's watch and see!

Getting close to a month since I said this- getting close to $700 too!

The *asking* price maybe, but the highest sales price on eBay is still just over $300.

Although, two 9.8 NYCC 2xSS copies sold at $500 each VERY quickly to boardies a couple days ago. Not sure how that might translate into blue-label 9.8 copies, but so far there's not much sign of price resistance yet. Will be interested in seeing how quickly (or if) this current sale happens.

The larger issue is that with it being a very limited book and a largely unknown title, it's difficult to pin down a value right now. Some copies are going to move between hands as people that know about the title but don't have the book try to secure one, but there aren't definitive numbers of potential buyers that don't have one. In order for a solid expected value to be determined, I think either more time is going to be needed to determine how many people are actually still in the market for one, or the overall readership needs to increase, so we know that there are going to be a bunch of people that want one but don't have one.

  3. Kind of baffling that a somewhat talented and pretty well known actor gets cast for a Marvel comic book character and the book gets no bump in price but an MMA fighter causes a book to temporarily jump from $1 to $50 and settle around $20.

    Daredevil Redemption #1

What am I missing? Who got cast in what part and why is this mini relevant? (Just checked the first appearances on Marvel's site against the casting on IMDB and nothing seems to match up.)

  4. I think the 2nd and 3rd prints of X-Force #100 go for over $100.

Not confirmed, but just what I remember as I was hunting them down for my Registry set.

I think the strangest thing is that #98 didn't ever get a straight up 2nd print.

That issue didn't have the near-immediate after-market that 87 did. As for 100, I imagine the need for a reprint was more the first prints being immediately gobbled up by speculators.

  5. The second printing of 361 seems to command a decent price. If you're confident you have a 9.8, go for it.

A bit off-topic, but are there other Copper reprints that might be worth it as well (besides Death of Superman issues)? I've got a few NM #87 reprints and some of the other Marvels with gold/silver ink

  6. Question about slabbing; I'm planning on submitting a number of books to CGC soon. I know generally it's only worth submitting 9.8s in the Modern category. With the low print numbers of Enormous, would submitting a book that you're pretty sure isn't a 9.8 but would be a 9.4 or 9.6 for sure increase the resale value more than the cost of grading? Would it make a difference if it was one of the more limited variants versus one of the A or B covers?

At this point, I would not grade any books that I knew not to be 9.8s. In the future...? Perhaps.

    +1

For now, I wouldn't slab anything that I didn't think was 9.8 material

Does this go for the NYCC as well? I think it has a shot at 9.8, but I'm far from certain.

  8. I don't think I ever paid more than cover for any of the early issues. I did, however, miss picking up Harbinger 4 when it was released (which I think at the time was believed to be the lowest-printed issue). The store where I pre-ordered most of my comics ended up with one for sale and I ended up trading other books (which were also far overvalued at the time) for it.

  9. I like saying the same of Ultaverse books. The only difference is I know they wont ever come back to what they once were. :baiting:

I'm not sure Ultraverse ever WAS anything... so there's a good chance they already ARE what they once were. :baiting:

(I have many of those too.)

I think it had a lot of promise (until Marvel acquired Malibu), and I remember them being enjoyable reads at the time. At some point I'll have to go back and re-read.

  10. I can not think of one person here saying anything bad about this comic as a whole.

To be fair, 99.5% of the posts have been about the values and print runs. There's been very little discussion of the actual story. I was thinking of starting a separate thread for that purpose (once I catch up with the issues I haven't read) to keep the discussions separate (as I imagine anyone only interested in a discussion of the story isn't going to want to sift through the collection discussion).

No need to start another post I'd prefer that the story comments begin to out weight the tiresome talk about print runs and so on. And to be fair we are in the break between story arcs so not to much to discuss. I actually have issue with people calling the NYCC variant 2nd printing a RRP, that's pretty much as hogwash as you can get. Its a Con variant, and a might hard one to get at that but its not a RRP.

I mentioned it being the equivalent on an RRP but meant in terms of value to me and the fact that EOW came out much later than the first printing. I'm certain that right this second, I can sell my CGC 9.8 Enormous #1 NYCC for more than my East of West #1 RRP. The EOW RRP is/was a variant given out at a con ( C2E2 ). The only difference in the books to me is that Enormous went straight into the hands of the fans. No middle men.

I'm sure there were dealers that had setups at the show that were picking them up. For example, on Sunday, the Wytches NYCC variant was announced as sold out at 9:56am. The floor opens to fans at 10am.

  12. ComicXposure

300 of 500 arrived at the show - ComicXposure is filling reservations limited to 1 copy of each cover. Look for more updates on available stock following the con.

    215INK

Got the allotment of 100 copies of #1 NYCC Exclusive and have stock on the table for #1-#4 all standard and alternate covers.

    Here is one mention.

This only mentions "allotment," not the print run. Although if it's a con exclusive, I wouldn't think there would be additional copies other than comps for the creators and/or office copies.

  13. I'm just a few issues away from completing my original Valiant-U run.

Are they slabbed, or raw? Which ones are your favorite?

Generally I'm not buying slabs for my collection, but I have started getting books in my collection graded for potential sale, or if they're high-grade keys. Mostly the issues that I still need are relatively cheap late-run Valiants that would cost more for the shipping than for the book itself, so I'm waiting until I can find them in person to buy.

  14. Enormous Treasury is getting no love, and there's only around 8 copies for sale right now on ebay. I thought it would be a lot more important than it apparently is.

As far as I can determine it is the 1st full appearance for at least Ellen

This hobby is incredibly fickle, and often there is little rhyme or reason to anything.

I'll probably get rid of my two treasury copies if I can because I don't collect treasury books and they're in my way... another reason people choose to ignore it I'm sure.

Its not fickle the Image oversized book is a one-shot never was a series. This current run is the series and its a different company. The tv option and series is the 215 version. Those are all drawbacks for the Treasury.

It is totally fickle - the main protagonist (so far) clearly first appears in the treasury edition from Image. The publisher is irrelevant, it is creator owned.

Tim has come on here and clearly has stated that was his first unpolished volley into the comic book world. She more polished in this series. Its like the Gambit uncanny x-men 266 versus the annual issue, the comic book market has made its decision. You can choose to rage against the machine but it is what it is. Just like you stated for many post earlier about how you didn't think the NYCC was worth much cause its a second print. Market has decided - not sure what complaining about it will solve. (shrug)

Ha the market hasn't even started.

That was my thought. Most people aren't even aware of the series.

  15. Sorry, no Giants fans allowed. (tsk)lol

Tim, how many copies do you expect you'll want to keep for your own collection at this point? I know you're raffling off a copy or two. Anyway, I'll put you on the countdown for however many you think you'll keep for your own for the foreseeable future.

Wait-what!? Raffle? What raffle? Where is this raffle of which you speak!? I must know! :sumo:

  16. I've got one in Florida.. 94 and I always said the #1 Phantom First Printing was the book to have. I'm glad I own a Nycc #1 but the majority of collectors haven't even heard about this book yet. When they do #1A and #1 Phantom will be the books to own imo

    Make that 90....

    --Phil

    89....

So, only 89 NYCC copies would be available for future collectors, and the remainder hoarded in personal collections till the cows come home. Those poor collectors will be :pullhair:

I've got one. I plan on submitting to CGC at the next show I go to. I think I'd only sell if the prices start hitting levels that I don't think are sustainable.

  17.

Isn't the spine splitting at the top? Not a 9.8. I would rather buy a NM lot and hope for a 9.8 in there. A lot of copies.

I'm not sure I'd call that a spine split but rather more of a corner bindery tear. Either way, probably enough with the lower corner to knock it under a 9.8.

  18. The 2nd Print thing does not matter.

I honestly do not think it means anything other than it was released after the original release date of #1.

All Con variants are 2nd prints.

I may just be spinning my wheels with this argument, so I will let it go. (and I now have a Frozen song stuck in my head....)

There have been some con variants of Valiant books that were made available at a convention a weekend or two before the regular edition hit the shelf at the store. Does that make those regular editions second prints? The key here is the word "printing"; it shouldn't matter when a book was made available, it should matter if it was produced as part of the same production run.
