  1. Ok when are they going to throw an actual real action figure on one of these covers? Cardstock cover with bubble, opens up and you have a comic book to read.

    Get on it Marvel.

The Star Wars comic packs somewhat danced around this idea....they were pretty awesome! Two figures and one comic book.

  2. The purpose of my charts and lists is to have a handy reference to educate collectors and I also enjoy doing it for long term historical reasons - its fun to look back as time goes by knowing there was some documentation. Thats why the wizard top 10 was popular for so long and its still fun to look back at 20 yrs later.

Any collector/buyer/investor is only going to do well if they know what they are doing and keeping up on the market and can figure out trends themselves. The people who foresee a trend coming are the ones that succeed - not the ones that are the last ones to try and cash in.

I do try to make the chart as accurate as possible - its updated every 2 weeks.

I would like to see others help with contributions and corrections to the list rather than just telling me it's not perfect. thanks

Sounds like a great list. I can never find the website though.

This is a valid complaint. I found a comic shop on Saturday that was - to be blunt - clueless about the marketplace.

I wanted to find Terry's site because there were piles of stuff everywhere. I could NOT GET IN to the site on a phone or a tablet.

    But I did OK anyways.

I just take notes on my phone everytime I see a comic trending. I have one list for every comic age.. I can sell you my lists if you want :insane:

You guys just need to be an oldschool dork like me and carry around a paper list in your wallet lol.

Whenever I walk into a new comic shop, where I'm not known, I get looked at like I probably don't collect comics and know jack about them. Bust out the list and suddenly an employee usually asks if there's any specific books I'm after. Plus, watching my TOS checklist come to nearly nothing is a very rewarding feeling......only need #52 and a couple other relatively unimportant issues (then it'll be time to revise the heck out of my list).

Or, you could just have an eidetic memory and keep it all in your head...

    I think that's cheating!! But I'm not sure....I can't remember....

  4. Showcase #30 is a key because it is the first time ever that Aquaman was a lead feature in a comic all his own. It is also the tryout issue to determine if he could carry his own title.

Sorry, but this seems like very loose reasoning to call a book key on a "B" list character at best.

A better argument could be made for Aquaman 1 in this context....

He might be a B list character but he is one of the founding fathers of the JLA....that has to count for something?!

  5. Star Wars #5 is C-3PO. Here's a link the to the article and pic.

    Another beauty!

I dig that the people upstairs are starting to really get the idea that "if you build it, they will come".

I hope this continues through the entire SW, ESB, ROTJ, and POTF line....and maybe even be super awesome and give us the Droids and Ewoks action figure lines as well.

  6. get yer Batman 35's asap folks this will be the definitive new 52 Batman key prolly superceding #1,

    4/20 was yesterday

What's the deal with 35 now?

If something big happens in 40, then 40 and 1 will be the two issues of interest.

35 is just the start of that storyline. Or am I completely missing something?

    You're missing something

    Care to elaborate?

  8. Given that we live in an era where 9.8 Spawn # 1s sell for $90 & 9.6 Spawn # 1s sell for $45, it could easily happen to even post-glut Valiants.

Heck, Bloodshot 1's selling for more than $75 these days in 9.8. I can't count how many raw NM/M copies I passed on for $1 over the years.

    Hold on WHAT??

Bloodshot 1 9.8 is closing in on $100??

I just passed on a stack of them in a dollar bin a couple weeks ago.

  9. gohastings had a ton of Batman 40 to preorder yesterday of the regular cover...all sold out today....this is getting out of control. I have a few regular covers on preorder but that's about it.

...and this is all just because of possible stuff being speculated upon?

Or am I really in the dark on something?

  10. Psylocke has been cast now. Bring out your x-men #256

X-Men #256 might get a small bump, but I think New Mutants Annual #2 and Captain Britain #8 will be the big winners here.

The reason why X256 will never see a significant bump is because..

Well.. Its a DREADFUL cover :eyeroll:

    You're high.

    Pass the bong.

Totally agree on the major stonage....

I love the cover on X256 and 257 etc etc etc.... Jim can do no wrong in my eyes.

  11. OMG...... I just got back home and was about to order one of the Fett variant covers and they're all gone. There was 1422 when I left to make an appt earlier.....what a bummer :(

    Hellllloooo profit!

...oh yeah, I'm aware that 5k different people didn't get to pick this up.

I wouldn't have hated it if there had been a limit of a few per customer.

This will definitely leave a sour taste in my mouth whenever I think about this title.

  12. Anybody know where you can buy boxes made specifically to ship comic books that hold between 50 and 100 comics?

Short boxes are just too big for this and I want to pack stuff safer

On another note I try to post any info I can on the latest hot copper comics at

    https://plus.google.com/communities/117425156060879776249

    Right here, chief: Shortboxes

Personally I hate folks who fancy themselves comic historians but that's a...

lol......what is a comic book historian exactly? (and why do you hate them?)

    :)

  13. To assume that anyone and everyone with potential 9.8s rushed to slab them 7 years ago when the first few went to $2,500 is misguided.

Many many folks just weren't thinking about the pre-Unity Valiant books they had left over from the downturn. And many folks just aren't plugged into CGC.

There is zero evidence to back up the assertion that effectively anyone who had 9.8 potentials would have slabbed them in 2008-2009. If that were true, the number of 9.8s would not have tripled since Jan. 2010 (which it has).

That timing coincides with the start of the new Valiant. This is going to drive submissions, no doubt about it.

You focus on the "tripling" but I look at raw numbers and they tell a different story. You can say the number of copies tripled if it went from 1 to 3.

I certainly hear you. Just like I heard the people who said the same thing in 2003, 2005, 2007, etc. We still only have 140ish 9.8s on the census for a book with a ~40K print run that has never sold for much less than $300 and as much as $2k+.

If you really think there are going to be 250 this time next year, I do not see the evidence for it, at all.

My point too. For a book that has always been popular what is the justification for waiting 25 years to finally grade it. The only ones they will still be graded are ones found in the depths of bins which mostly likely will not be 9.8's. They are a few exceptions of people the hoard raw books but the general collecting community doesn't do that. I am not a betting person but I would take a bet on Harbinger 9.8's not increasing its 9.8 threshold past 200 within 4 years especially with how tough CGC is grading right now. They are extremely tough because competition is tough on grading and that won't stop for another year or two.

"but the general collecting community doesn't do that".

I have no idea where you came up with that idea. Most of the comic collectors I know and have known only CGC books when it's time to sell. Myself and others definitely hoard raw books. That's the name of the game! Always has been. I've seen more boxes filled with one single issue than I can recall. I've heard about lots of others doing this sort of thing as well....I know a guy with a friend who has a box full of uncirculated New Mutants 98 (have no reason to believe this person is blowing smoke up my tailpipe). The smart guys know not to flood the market and just drizzle them out as needed.

Now in this particular situation, I do NOT see a flood of more 9.8 Harb #1s coming down the pipeline. Valiant just wasn't everyones cup o tea back then and has since been long forgotten by many. I can't tell you how many books I've pulled from fifty-cent bins in the past weeks.

So, no on the Valiant 9.8 numbers blowing up.....but have no doubt that lots of us out there hoard the heck of out books. There are certain books that I will always buy if the price is right.

  14. Solar 10 is a great book, but outside of hard to find in high grade, I look at importance of the book and nothing is more important to valiant universe than Rai #0. After that A&A and X-O 1 for me. Just to find in high grade there are some low census numbers on other Valiant books. I looked up some of the keys and some only have 50 or so in 9.8. The longer the books sit in long boxes or dollar bins, the less likely they are to get high grade just because of handling, so hopefully we all depleted the high grade books out there over the past 25 years.

    Absolutely!

The quarter/fifty-cent/dollar bins have been very unkind to Valiant over the years and this may come back around to help out those who already own high grade material.

  15. So at this point.....the question is, what's the next book to go ape shart like this one??

I believe Solar 10 first printing in 9.8 is tougher than most any of the Valiant books. That black cover can easily scratch, and there were corner imperfections right from the release of the book that showed up white due to paper breaks.

I hadn't compared grading on these two.... good call!

First EW definitely should count for a lot if you ask me anyhow.

Alright, high grade Solar 10 is the hunt now then.
