    1.      That always makes me laugh. Thank goodness one of the adults found us little kids hiding here just waiting to be asked intelligent questions about our hobby.
    a) On a Monday no less.
     XVI) Thank you!
MXCVII) Because it is better than smoking crack ( although not necessarily plastic crack.)
    3. Cracking is the logical adult version of reading and reading is bad( at least for us kids).
1a. What is a CBC? Complete Blood Count

I remember when ASM #300 was new and my recollection is that McFarlane was good but he was still an artist among artists. He had not risen to the astronomical height that we all know he eventually did.
Venom was a cool "whoa" character that served  to drum up the lax or faded  interest in the title. Brock really did grab readers attention and he was a major draw. It had become cool to like villains. Neither Venom nor McFarlane created a "hording" effect for the book however. At least not in its early years. It was a little pricey as most double issues and anniversary issues were in that era. That is it.
It has had a slow but un-steady rise in value so I do not see it crashing near or far. It has an established value although that value is not always at a peak or valley. No dive bomb I say.

I'm pretty sure people cared about Venom because he was the final form of the alien symbiote suit that had been a plot or sub-plot for years just as the black vs. red/blue suit debate was ongoing.   Anniversary issues also were a very big deal, major storylines always climaxed in anniversary issues and they were important.  Not just because there was continuity at the time but in those days the publisher payday was in double sized anniversary issues because they didn't have today's reboots, line wide cross-overs & number one issues with variants.  I bought multiples of anniversary issues as far back as Marvel Tales 100, FF 200, ASM 200 etc...I don't know where I fall in the collector/hoarder spectrum but I still have those multiples and I haven't sold a comic yet.
Also in general, putting too much faith in the "literature of the day" is something you need to put to a test by pointing to current sources of information that you trust, today you can choose from cbr, bleeding cool, recalledcomics, comichron, comicbookinvest etc..etc..?  Which one will someone be quoting & pointing to years in the future as the "literature of the day" for today?  How about the 90's where Wizard dominated the "day" - were they always correct in identifying trends or did they create the trends?  I know you take the time to source from various places but the literature of the day doesn't always tell the whole story, sure the hardcore fans and dealers read the stuff you're talking about but most fans dabbled in that stuff and back then things like letters pages, editorial boxes & bullpen bulletins were important and had just as much influence over buying habits as those fanzines did when it came to the kids who were buying comics in the late 80's.

So in three years, after at least one Venom-verse movie, and who knows how much more growth in popularity, not to mention the book turning 30 years old by then, the book will be selling for what it was selling for up to 11 years in the past ?
Gotcha.  Better hold off on picking up a copy till then.  FWIW

I like my Wolvie short, stout, hairy and angry. My inner child always refers to Art Adams' Wolverine as the appropriate template.

I had one purchase that came back as a color touch resto and they offered me a full refund of original purchase price, which I used as store credit to get other books from them.  Class act all the way around.

I actually thought of that after posting. Maybe it's not too far off I guess.
As for $100 for that book...sucker born every minute. "Oooh it's number one!"

While the listing doesn't give issue numbers, it's possible that the price may at least be close to recent, if not current, FMV. It's not like the listing is for a set of West Coast Avengers.
How anybody was ever suckered into paying $100 for a New 52 Batman 1 is another story.

One of the problems is that the industry itself has over-promoted the idea that old comics are valuable... especially the OPG.  People don't get this false sense with used paperbacks or other modern-era items.  The paperback price guides over the years don't include last month's Stephen King novel.  Few expect their 1990s issues of Time Magazine to be worth a fortune.  Nobody complains when the hardback they spent $24.95 for is available next month at the used bookstore for a third of that or far less.  But there's this weird idea out there that all comics books will be worth cover-price or more down the road.  The OPG should remove any comic from its listings that's valued at less than $10 in NM (maybe then it could increase the font-size to a readable level for us oldsters)!

Cool to see all the different styles & genres being produced in the 50's - some of those war & western books are really starting to grow on me.
