  1. Hey mitol Do you have any vintage street car models? Any from the muscle-car era! I've got a Bugato Shelby AC Cobra (my dream machine), but I've thought about getting more. My cousin collects the F1 die-cast models, and I have to admit, they make for spectacular showpieces. The detailing on them is remarkable.
  2. AMAZING!! Have you ever given any thought to owning your own winery/vineyard someday?
  3. Hey ghoulaid. That's a cool UG!! Do you know if that's a first print? One way to find out is to check on page 2 to see if it makes any mention of Rhuta Comix #0 as being Election Day Funnies, and Rhuta Comix #1 as being Mother Country Comix (also 0.05 cents). Also isn't that a tabloid (ie. more like a newspaper?). I recall having one in my collection, but I'm not sure. If your interested in selling it, LMK -- I just might be interested.
  4. The poster collecting sounds really cool! Do you keep them rolled, or do you hang 'em up? Who are your favourite artists? I used to have an awesome Soundgarden curtain/flag (covered an entire wall) from their Badmotorfinger album. It got ripped off though when my place got broken into. As for BSB cards, I have a binder with plastic sheets containing traders (multiples) that I take to shows, etc. The rest of the cards are in a box, and are rarely opened, unless I'm adding missing cards to the sets. I should say that one of my all-time favourite goalie cards is this photo used on late 60's OPC hockey card featuring Bernie Parent. Its totally awesome! Unfrorunately, those are tucked away, and not really a premium card that I'd have seperated and in hard casing. From the binder, I found a few of the 70's Broad Street Bullies that you might appreciate, and even though Linseman wasn't a member of the Broad Street Bullies, he was one of those guys you hated playing against, but would love on your team:
  5. In between buying spurts for Underground Comix I need for my collection, I dabble in a bunch of other mainstream stuff, but its also pretty obscure, so I go months on end before I actually find anything -- sometimes years. So being that I'm Canadian, and huge fan of ice-hockey, I also find myself spending a little of my time completing hockey card sets which I started doing the day my brother cleaned-up at a game of "flipsees." This was a game played in grade-school playgrounds, between card collectors. My focus is O-Pee-Chee hockey cards, dating back to a few singles from their first 1933 set. That is one set I'd like to complete in my lifetime, but its getting more and more expensive to get single cards for it, let alone big time players like Howie Morenz or Eddie Shore. Its also very difficult to find cards for this set in decent shape. The last time I looked, the complete set booked for around 15K, but I haven't seen many sales of the set, and I think the guide price may be a little on the lowball side. I also used to collect a variety of other sportscards (mostly baseball) like Topps, Bowman, Fleer (MJ's rookie), but I had to stop because it was getting ridiculously expensive. From my hockey card collection, some of my favourites are Bobby Orr's RC, Gretzky's RC, Dryden's RC (grew up idolizing him, and one of the reason why I took up netminding in the first place), and some early Toronto Maple Leafs like Tim Horton and Johnny Bower. Anyone else collect other stuff on top of their comic collecting?
  6. It was a pleasure dealing with Vince Some long overdue Kudos to forumites I've dealt with; my sincerest apologies if I have forgotten to include you on the list; OldGuy: great person with which I continute to communicate on/off about anything and everything -- but mostly related to comics, and his appreciation for Wrightson and Frazetta (BTW: I'd love to get a pic of that WSF 29 behind the glass ) joe_collector: an awesome transaction on some CGC'd Byrne books, and repeat purchased on a few others Bronze goodies. Hope you like the Collossus TPB and thanks for taking the time to post feedback! chromium Allan is an awesome guy. Not much more to add other than the fact that I'm sure he will be most pleased with his books once he gets them. Big thanks also to chrisco37 for helping facilitate the purchase. Filter81 Adam swooped up some huge killer keys. Very excited that I had a chance to deal with such a great, no-nonsense kind of person. Nikos61 Since your purchase, I started a cover recreation of that very cover. I really loved that book growing-up, and am really glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the great feedback! Rshale Very happy to have had an opportunity to work the CGC'd X-books with Randy, the class-act that he surely is. Thanks for the great feedback! Cody Starbuck Jeff picked-up some Byrne X-Men books which I am going to get out the door today. Also inquired about some undergrounds -- and although I thought I had a spare first printing, I did manage to find someone who is willing to sell one to Jeff. Let me know how that goes. I know there are a bunch of others I'm missing; some who purchased and I know frequent these boards, but I just couldn't make the connection. If that's the case, just drop me an email/PM, and I'll make sure to add you to the next list of Kudos Thanks again to everyone!
  7. Better choose your words carefully guys, cause from the looks of it, Betty's got a pretty mean temper:
  8. I couldn't resist posting this bikini cover
  9. Sorry to hear about this Ian. Might have been best to stick with underground comics; the only possiblity of any "wheels being in motion" with dealing with a bunch of hippies are the trips to buy more rollies.
  10. Totally agree with you Matt! Personally, I think Archie was either a unitard or altogether blind to not figure out Betty was the hotter of the two. Between the antics stirred with Veronica, her scassacazo dad (word borrowed from COI ), and Reggie's relentless plotting to foil their relations (come to think of it, that Reggie was "Big-Pimpin" early day Vandal Savage, going after Veronica, and Midge -- the latter of course, having a boyfriend who had, ironically, the name Moose, and who had a serious penchant for using Reggie as a tomato-can), Archie must have had serious drought problems! All this, while Betty always seemed so willing to please -- God bless the writers for spinning the situational plots with such realism!!
  11. This thread (big thanks to 143ksk, Shield, LucyBop, et. all contributors) made me realize how much I REALLY enjoyed Archie comics growing up as a kid, and the hours of fun and laughter from reading them and sharing the stories with friends and family. Although these covers are truly fantastic to see again, and some for the first time, its the stories, the artwork, the humor and classic situational comedy that IMO really seals these books as instant classics. It goes without saying that this thread has also given me resurging interest in continuing my goals to collect them all once again.
  12. Hey 143ksk I have the Archie 114 "variant" cover; yeah!?!? This one has the cop with a mustache, arresting Archie, while somehow managing to remain conscious with an arrow through his head, and Fred Flinstones Pebbles as seen through the eyes of Goggles Paisano, making off with the SWAT truck. Pretty action packed for an Archie cover!
  13. Somebody say aliens? One of my all-time favourite alien covers:
  14. 142ksk Those are awesome books! Just awesome. I've got some early Pep's including a 22, but I don't keep them at my place. I've been looking for an Archie 1, and Pep 36... those two copies you've got are SWEET! Not a favourite cover, but I like Jughead and I had this scan readily available. Pretty much anything to do with Jughead on the cover is bound to be funny!
  15. You ought to seriously consider purchasing one This detector has helped much in detecting colour touch (CT) in my experiences.
  16. It is in my opinion that making the switch from ebay to cons would prove to be futile, as most of the "relatively-conscious" dealers and sellers who attend cons, run local shops or virtual ones, and are "chipmunking" mid/high caliber keys, ARE CLEARLY using ebay yields, AND NOT the OPG as a benchmark for their own pricing. Although I have to agree that it is somewhat frustrating, on the one hand, to have to wait for key thats been on your radar to pop-up, and on the other, to fall victim to either a bidding war, a selling scam, or worse -- a book that arrives restored or damaged in transit, unless that mountain we call ebay suddenly becomes a molehill overnight, the argument for buying at cons just doesn't measure up to the sheer numbers of material on an online person-to-person trading community, a.k.a. ebay. Happy Hunting!
  17. Although the first appearance of the Kingpin doesn't adhere to the formula of sporting the dude who makes his first appearance, and in one fell-swoop, upstages the good-guy with a swing or a death-blow, ASM 50 it still is one of my all-time favourite covers.
