  1. Goalie masks. If I have some time, I'll photograph the Spidey masks I've got (3 versions). I've recently taken up buying vintage goalie masks, and acquired these two:
  2. Not sure. It was either the guys at Paradise Comics who pointed me to the forums or James Ashley Rudd (fantastic_four). Might have happened near around the time Matt Stanley had a bunch of books stolen from him, and both James and I had won some Spidey's off Matt. James emailed me explaining that Matt had renagged on an ASM 2 he had already won and paid for and warned me that Matt might do the same with my book. I kept in touch with James from that point on, and during that time, he may have told me about this site.
  3. That looks like a solid copy fandango!! Nicely done!
  4. Nice book! I got a book back from CGC today. All Stars #2 (1970). Cool UG book featuring the works of Rick Griffin (cvr), Crumb, Williamson, Crandall, Ditko & Wilson -- an incredible collaboration of artists, and one of the coolest books you'll find with multi-coloured pages. It was a purchased at the San Diego Comicon from a small time dealer, and when I saw this high-grade copy, I didn't even hesitate to plunk down some coin. Its the only copy on the census, and I'm pretty happy about the 9.2 grade
  5. I'm a little disappointed with the grade outcome (this book has 9.4 written all over it), but the white pages, QP and eye-appeal are extraordinary for a GA book:
  6. Interior, first page, in pencil usually.
  7. Anyway, where is he now? And what is he up to? Red I had never heard of him before I started doing a local Aniques market a few years back. I'd haul my comic stand and about 12 long boxes every 2nd Sunday. One day, a gentleman happened to notice one of my FF's (I believe 26) had a distinguishing mark in it -- George's initials. This fellow claimed that George did this to all his books. After he told me this, I didn't really want to sell the book any longer, even though he was really keen on having it. He would drop-by every so often asking if I was interested in selling any of Georges old books. I later discovered I had purchased, through a third-party, numerous books that belonged to him. I don't recall where they all came from, but I always thought that it was odd that this gentleman wanted them so badly.
  8. Got my batch of books on Friday -- a big thanks to THE BEYONDER for some awesome books, super-smooth transaction and communication, and for making the books available on the CGC Marketplace! Thanks Chris!
  9. Mine...all mine. Hey; I thought I had dibs on 'em!
  10. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HIS HANDS NOT AS STEADY AS IT ONCE WAS!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HIS HANDS NOT AS STEADY AS IT ONCE WAS!!!!
  12. Kudos to Carl (Darthdiesel); one of the boards finest when it comes to shipping books across the border to our fellow Canucks. Books/slabs arrived in perfect condition and packaged to endure a war. Thanks Carl. Hope Peanut is doing well
  13. This really leaves me scatching my head.... and in no way am I pointing my finger at you redhook; rather, this whole argument about presssing and intent -- when did the problem with pressing ever become one of intent?? CGC can detect pressing -- this is not an issue for debate. Comment the PRESS on the label and leave it to the buyer to decide whether this is something they want to own. I just don't understand how this ever became an issue of intent. Specifically for the reasons that JC stated, this whole pressing issue should be reexamined by CGC. Personally, I believe they should comment that the book has been PRESSED. By doing this, we nip the problem at the bud. Then we might rid two things from developing; i) the possibility that dealers/collectors jumping on the pressing bandwagon, performing bad press jobs, will contribute to the problem of a bad press reverting; and ii) accurately guage how much of a problem a comment that states "PRESSED" on the label will have on a collectors purchasing patterns. After all, there should be plenty of collectors like FF that don't really about buying a PRESSED book, but for the folks like myself, perhaps we would like to be able to make a more informed choice. If by devine and greater wisdom, a collector decides to stack their books to Jupiter, and that collectors books get the PRESSED treatment on the CGC label, well then maybe that collector should look into storing their comics in a long box like everyone else. Who the heck stacks their books a la Church anyway??
  14. I usually don't hang on to them long enough to even look at them; they're either lost at the table, or cashed in before I get any ill-concieved notion that I'm on some sort of winning-streak.
  15. Gotcha Hey Dan, do you know if is this a record as far as collectible gaming is concerned?
  16. I think I might have a VIC-20 console system somewhere... think it might be worth anything? I think I might even have a game or two....
  17. The last determinant is the date (year) of publication. What year does it mention on your copy? I'm at work right now, but I'll check my notes when I get back home, and check back here for your response later.
  18. Are those some of your own cars seen in the photo in your signature? That black car with the flaming treatment is just awesome!!
  19. Are those price guides stacked on the stereo unit?
  20. Hey Andrew The first I ever heard of this was an interview with one (or maybe even a few members) of the Beastie Boys who was fevereshly collecting old Nike and Adidas shoes. They were dropping some serious coin on vintage shoes. If I remember correctly, of the most valuable are these old Michael Jordan game worn "Roo shoes. Story has it that when MJ first broke into the NBA, he was wearing Roo shoes, and was so comfortable wearing them, that despite an endorsement contract with NIke, he still wore the Roo shoes, with the Nike name covering the Roo logo (a picture of a Kangaroo). I think the Beastie Boys now own it, but I'm not 100% sure. Below is a photo of one member wearing a pair of old Adidas shoes:
  21. Those busts are awesome! I especially like the set-up and display fantastic_four showed a little while back on these boards. Another example of a great showpiece collectible. Is your MJ rookie graded? I've given thought about grading mine, and my Gretzky. Not sure about it though. I'm no interested in selling either, but a part of me would also like to see how they grade out. Its also worth mentioning that you seem to collect very distracting avatars... not that there's anything wrong with them!!!
