Had a great time there last year-- dropped a few $$$ on some great books-- got some early Batman's (2 and 4?) from Terry's booth.    They had a nice representation of Golden Age books.   Not planning on this year with being buried in deadlines, but I wouldn't be shocked if something changed my mind last minute.

Glad to hear you had a good time! Can confirm there will be even more amazing GA this year.

Fingers crossed those deadlines magically disappear before the weekend :peace:

  3. We're excited to share that yes, Seller Badges are on the way, set to launch either today or tomorrow! This feature has been in the pipeline for some time, and we can’t wait for you to see it. We'll share a blog post with all the details, and of course, you’ll be able to check out the new badges in the app once the update is live.

Our aim has always been to create a fair marketplace for both buyers and sellers. To maintain a trustworthy environment, we do have measures in place to deal with sellers who don’t fulfill orders or buyers who often drop off at checkout. Unless there’s a serious issue or a pattern of misbehavior, we typically look for repeat issues before considering suspensions. A one-off incident won’t lead to an account being suspended.

We’re all about keeping the marketplace reliable and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Fantastic show put on by Gene and his crew.

The selection of dealers was equal to SDCC, without the lines and Funkos.

Thank you! Glad you had a good time.

Our goal was simply to put together the best dealer lineup possible and I think we did a pretty good job.

However, it seems that it may have been at the expense of having more value-oriented dealers, so we'll make sure to have all bases covered next year.

Gene - I will throw in my 2 cents feedback wise.  I went with my wife.  Loved the set up.  Super easy (and free!) parking.  Since we a little late, it was a breeze to grab our badges and waltz right in to the showroom.  We really liked the setup.  So nice not to be in cramped walkways between booths.  Although I will say, if you are going to let dealers use the side of their tables for also having boxes of books to dig through, the tables need a little bit more space between them.  Very easy to get stuck on the sides of tables.

Lots of tables for sitting and/or eating.  Finding a resting spot was never difficult.  Love that.  Easy access to catered food was cool, but the food was meh.  Maybe food trucks next time?

Couple of (relatively) minor issues -

    • Dealer and artist signage.  The show signage was on the front of the tables.  Guess what you can't see when there are people in front of the booth/table?  We did not love playing guess the artist/dealer.
    • Dealer variety.  First off - Great job bringing a lot of great dealers together.  I saw some books that I have never seen in person before - really cool.  Maybe try to have some more value oriented dealers as well?  Lee's Comics dollar book boxes were super popular, so I don't think I am alone in that sentiment.

We had a great time, although I could not quite find the right deal for me (spent more on entry than on actual books) and will probably go back next year.

This is excellent feedback, thank you for sharing!

Re: Dealer and Artist signage - noted! We've already made plans to switch to floor stand signage for dealers and artists instead of table banners, since most dealers also have their own signage above the racks.

Re: Dealer Variety - also noted! I agree we should have more value-oriented dealers. We actually upgraded Lee's Comics booth from a single 10x10 to the biggest booth at 10x40 just so he could bring his entire inventory, including lots of dollar books. We'll include more value-oriented dealers next year while still keeping big book dealers so all collectors are covered.

If anyone else has feedback or suggestions, please don't hesitate to share!

  6. Thanks to all the boardies who came! Saw lots of familiar faces and met others for the first time. Overall it was a huge success for our first show. Quick recap:

    • Nothing but comic book dealers, comic book artists, and comic-focused main stage talks.
    • 22 dealers, who all seemed fairly happy with the show - a handful of them did some crazy numbers including a dealer who said it was his best show EVER in 25+ years.
    • 9 artists, many of whom said this was the best and/or most fun show they've ever done, including Kelley Jones.
    • 6 great main stage talks with full audiences.
    • Lots of raffle prize winners including someone who walked away with a $10k Wow Comics #10 9.0 Crowely Pedigree single highest graded; the winner took a gamble and bought a lot of raffle tickets and it paid off!
    • 700+ happy collectors with lots of space to move around and not bump elbows.

    A few random pics below.

I will be there so save a ticket at the door for Harold. Best dealer line up in 20 years.

I am surprised Vincent won't be there did you reach out to him?

We only invited dealers who sell on Shortboxed! There's already a long waitlist for next year's show :)

3 weeks to go! A couple random tidbits:

Discounted hotel room block has sold out! Got some awesome collectors traveling in from all over the country. Rooms are still available at the hotel at the regular rate.

Lee Hester has a customer with "around $100,000 worth of nice slabs going back to the Golden Age that he’s looking to sell" and will be in his booth.

Alan Bahr is bringing some Okajimas that he's never brought to market.

We've also released the full main stage agenda. There will be a stage in the middle of the room with content throughout the day, so you can take breaks from digging to enjoy some great talks. More details at shortboxed.com/live

Tickets will be available at the door at 11:00am but highly suggest buying advance tickets to guarantee entry and you'll get in earlier at 10:00am.

    hm

    Hope you can make it!

    Some quick updates:

Golden Age: There's a contingent of GA collectors traveling in from around the country, and a few dealers are planning accordingly by bringing some of their best GA stock. Just sayin' :headbang:

Hotel Rooms: Only about 30 rooms left for Sat, May 6. So if you're planning on traveling out, I do recommend booking your hotel soon to get the discounted rate. Booking link: https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/group-booking/CLARA/G-SRBX

Floor Plan: Booth numbers aren't assigned yet, but here's a look at the general floor plan. All the comic book dealers will be surrounding the entire room, and in the center will be artists, some communal roundtables (for dealmaking, watching the main stage, eating, resting, whatever), and the main stage where we'll have interviews, talks, raffles and more throughout the day. Everything is in one large room.

Raffle Grand Prize: Every attendee gets a raffle ticket, and additional tickets will be available to purchase. Someone at the show is walking away with a $10k book - really. We're raffling off items throughout the day, but the grand prize will be the Wow Comics #10 9.0 Crowely Copy (single highest graded) ^^

Definitely recommend booking your discounted room soon as about half of the room block is already sold.
