  1. Overall I had a great time! It's good to have a con back in San Francisco. Some feedback: Bigger artist alley - more artists and creators! Many of the creators were selling out of prints, books, and commissions by Saturday. Don't stick them in the far back. At the first SFCC they were in the middle of the room and that was great, making creators the center of attention. More LOCAL creators. If we can't have a local organizer bring a big con to the city, at least invite more local creators. APE is not what it once was - bring back everyone who used to table there. More actual comic book dealers. Self explanatory. This one is more of a personal complaint, but why don't cons prevent dealers/people with dealer badges from lining up before doors open? 3 days in a row I arrived early and was near the front of the line to get in so I could try to get a Bruce Timm commission, and each day I made a mad dash to his table once doors opened and should have been one of the first people, only to find 20 people with dealer badges already standing there. I chatted with a lot of people who did the same each day and no one was able to get a sketch from him because dealers always lined up before doors opened. Perhaps this is something that should be addressed to Bruce Timm's group, but I also feel it could be handled by con organizers better.
  2. What happens if a Signature Series slab gets cracked or damaged - will they re-case it or does it have to be re-graded? If it has to be re-graded, what happens to the signature verification? Will it not come back yellow label?
  3. I got commissions from Rags Morales and Mike Perkins. I posted pics of my commissions in this con report post here: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/421323-sf-comic-con-report/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-9906274
  4. Would have been great to have you! SVCC is likely the next con we're planning the next one around.
  5. It was great hanging with you! Comics and beer...a match made in heaven.
  6. Here are my 2 commissions! Captain America by Mike Perkins Hawkman by Rags Morales
  7. Here's my haul! With no other golden age dealers at the show so I had do all my shopping with the Bunky Bros
  8. I had a great time at the con! Posted up a bunch of pics from the Comic Book Swap party that I hosted here: We had 23 people show up, lots of great comics and tons of fun trading and swapping, and getting to meet other Bay Area collectors. This also gave me a great "comic fix" since there weren't too many dealers at the con itself, although I did pick up a lot of great stuff from the Bunky Bros.
  9. Same here! This will be my first time going to Baltimore! The con and the city...
  10. Had an awesome time at the con! Went a little overboard on buying comics and went way over my budget with the Bunky Bros. Oops Also hosted a comic swap party after the con on Saturday that sold out - had 23 people attend! A couple boardies, some from the Instagram community and other Bay Area collectors. There was some good variety in books that people brought, and a lot of trades went down, as well as some sales. Tons of fun - just hanging out, having drinks, shooting some pool, and talking & swapping comics of course. Everyone had a fun time There are so many collectors in the Bay Area and I'd love to meet them all. Many couldn't make it to this event, but I'll likely be hosting another one in the future. Maybe around SVCC? [that's me in the Doctor Strange t-shirt]
  11. Just swung by the con real quick during my lunch break to drop my sketchbook off for a commission, but I will say it's nice to have a con back in San Francisco. It may not be WonderCon but it's better than the alternative, which is nothing. Wish there were more comic book dealers, but the artist lineup is killer!
  12. Thanks! Just trying to get the local community together, so definitely would like to do another one in the future. SVCC seems to make the most sense!
  13. Tend to agree that it's lacking in dealers, but as a comic book fan, the creator lineup is one of the best I've seen and I plan to get as many commissions as possible! Arthur Adams, Neal Adams, Mark Brooks, Clayton Crain, Mike McKone, Josh Middleton, Rags Morales, Mike Perkins, Sienkiewicz, Bruce Timm, just to name a few. Also, if anyone is still interested in attending our private comic book trade party on Saturday, there are only a couple tickets left. We've got about a dozen people bringing comics to sell and trade, so if you don't like what you see in the expo hall, then come hang out with other collectors (including some boardies) across the street at Jillian's! We'll be swapping comics from 6-9pm on Saturday. I posted about it in the events forum, or you can just DM me.
  14. Picked up this Blue Bolt 107 at Berkeley Comic Con. Dinosaurs, space men and a damsel in distress
  15. Update: only 4 tickets left! Looks like it'll be a fun event for some comic trading and selling Here's a direct link to details and tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/shortboxed-comic-book-swap-san-francisco-comic-con-after-party-tickets-36885215673
  16. Picked up a few books, very easy and pleasant transaction. Packaged well. Thank you!
  17. Update: We've sold about half the available tickets already! 13 of 20 sold. Shaping up to be a fun event The goal was to get at least 15 people together for a meetup and trade party and it looks like we'll get more than that, so I'm pretty stoked. This is a true community event, so if any boardies are in or around the Bay Area, please share this event with other friends and collectors - need everyone's help to spread the word and bring the Bay Area comic book collecting community together! 18. Is anyone doing any witnessing? I may not be able to make it on Friday anymore because of work, but I'd like to get some Frank Miller books signed and witnessed.
  19. Update: We've sold 10 out of 20 tickets already! Very excited to see this come to fruition! Seems like folks are bringing a nice mix of books to trade - silver, bronze, copper, modern, variants, raw, slabbed. A few folks have asked about the ticket price, and as I mentioned before, I'm currently operating at a loss - the price helps mitigate my out of pocket expenses. I do believe there is a lot of value for the ticket price! The space alone is gorgeous, and it's literally right across the street from the convention center, so it's very convenient. It's also a completely private event just for us. We're also providing appetizers for the evening, as well as giving everyone pins that sell for $10, and doing a bunch of giveaways as well. This is on top of the ability to bring comics to trade, or sell. I've been to trading events that required $15-25 minimum spend at a comic book shop just to participate. What we're trying to put together is a safe, private, relaxed, fun environment to just hang out after the con. It's also an all ages venue, but do keep in mind that it is also a full bar. Thankfully we have our own private venue with separate entrance that bar & restaurant customers won't have access to. A couple attendees are bringing under age guests, and they can attend for free with paid admission. This is more about bringing everyone together than it is about recouping costs. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this a great event, please feel free to chime in. This is a community-driven event, and hopefully it will be a good way to get the local Bay Area comic collecting community together during San Francisco Comic Con.
  20. I had a great time! Picked up a trio of golden age L.B. Cole books from Ray Storch, a Fantastic Four 52, and a nice stack of misc silver age books. Ended up being there for about 3 hours! Met some great people, too. If anyone is planning to attend San Francisco Comic Con, we're throwing a boardie meetup and trading party after the con, on Sat Sep 2 from 6-9pm. Hopefully we'll get to see some familiar faces from Berkeley in San Francisco! Just trying to get the Bay Area comic community together Posted a separate event thread with more details here:
