  1. We'll be there all 3 days! And we're also throwing a boardie meetup and trading party after the con on Saturday, Sep 2 from 6-9pm. I posted a separate event thread here with more details: Hope to get a bunch of boardies and con attendees together!
  2. Hey everyone! With San Francisco Comic Con growing this year and moving into Moscone West (our backyard), there will be a lot of people in town for the con and I thought it'd be fun to throw a comic trading party and boardie meetup after the con. I rented out the private VIP lounge at Jillian's Sports Bar & Restaurant, literally right across the street from Moscone West from 6:00-9:00pm on Saturday, September 2. The expo hall closes at 7:00pm that day. I just wanted to create a fun, relaxed atmosphere for everyone to unwind and hang out after the con, talk comics, do some buying and trading with each other, and have a drink. Renting the private VIP lounge isn't cheap, so I do need to charge for the event, and even then I'm still paying for most of it out of pocket. Tickets are $20, and I'm trying to provide as much value as possible! So what does the ticket get you? Admission to private VIP lounge Opportunity to bring up to 1 short box of comics to buy, sell, and trade with other collectors 1 Shortboxed enamel pin (choose from 5 different designs - these sell for $10 each; see photo) Appetizers (with vegetarian and vegan options) 1 raffle ticket for prizes throughout the evening (various comics and toys) Free-to-play pool table Tickets are available now, and space is limited, so tickets are first come, first served until they sell out. There's only space for 20 people, and there's been a lot of interest from local collectors, so I do expect to sell out - have already sold a few. I really want this to be a community-driven event, which is why I'm posting here. Open to hear any suggestions on how to create a good trading party. Hoping we can get some boardies and the general Bay Area comic book collecting community together during the con! Feel free to chime in here with any feedback or suggestions! 3. Picked up this Terrifying Tales 13 at SDCC. Super low grade copy, but I had to have it!
  4. Interested in this topic, following for updates. Are there any podcasts available yet?
  5. Thanks all! Anyone else? I'll be submitting this one for grading, will report back.
  6. He called it a 6.0 but that seems high. I have a post in the grading forum and some call it a 3.0 or better. Hoping it's closer to a 6.0 than a 3.0
  7. There isn't much in terms of back issues and vintage comics in San Francisco, but Isotope Comics in Hayes Valley is definitely worth a visit. The owner, James, is a character and the place is lined with toilet seat covers drawn by tons of artists that have visited over the years. Yes, I said toilet seat covers.
  8. Hi everyone! I just picked up my very first L.B. Cole cover! Got it at Denver Comic Con from Dale Roberts. Super happy to own this, but now I want more!
  9. Thanks! Was thinking it'd be higher with the "golden age curve" but any grade is better than no grade - happy to simply own the book
  10. Complete, a few pages split along spine about 0.5", cover attached, staples rusted, some non-color breaking dents on the cover, some internal pages have have some chipping on bottom edge. Appreciate the input!
  11. Yes, exactly. Some booths have exclusives that people will camp out overnight for. There's also panels in the big rooms like Hall H, Ballroom 20, 6BCF, Indigo, etc that people camp out or line up early for. Same goes for autographs. If you're not interested in any of that and just want to walk around the expo hall or attend smaller panels, then no need to line up before the doors open.
  12. Expo hall opens at 9:30am. If you're not trying to line up early to get in, then just wait to stroll in after 9:30am once the masses have been let in. Just grab some breakfast and wait until the front doors are open.
  13. Do not go to SDCC without a very clear gameplan in place. Know exactly the 1-2 things you want to accomplish each day, and how/where/when to line up for them. Between now and then you need to devote a lot of time to researching all of this. If you show up without a clear daily gameplan, you'll spend your time frustrated aimlessly walking around and accomplishing nothing. As far as comics go, just devote some time to only focus on visiting the dealers.
  14. Will there be CGC witnesses available for Frank Miller signings on Friday?
  15. Yes! Can't wait! We drive down from San Francisco every year. If any non-California boardies are seeing this, it's a single-day show worth traveling to. Unless you hate spending an entire day looking at comics, and comics only.
  16. I've ordered many times from sellers on eBay. Just search for the product number and you'll find what you need. Many of them offer free shipping as well. If you need "a lot" then your best bet is to order direct for a bulk discount.
  17. @justafan Sent you a DM. Are there any plans for a boardie meetup during SDCC? My SDCC schedule is very tight (what with lines and panels and offsites and everything else) but it'd be great to meet some boardies in person for a bite and/or a beer!
  18. While it's a bit sad to see a mainstay of the expo hall leave, I don't think it changes my SDCC experience one bit. I've literally never stepped foot into the Mile High Comics booth because it's the most overpriced booth of them all, it's ridiculous that as a comic collector I have no reason to step into the biggest comic booth. Yet I spend hundreds to thousands of dollars at all the other dealer booths. And yes, there are still a lot of comics at SDCC - more than any other con I've been to (every con on the West Coast, a handful around the country). As another poster mentioned, the comics just pale in comparison to the size and spectacle of the whole event. All the top dealers are there, insane Golden Age collections that only get brought to SDCC, all the auction houses, tons of original art. If you want it, it's at San Diego - you just have to deal with 130,000 people under one roof With that said, it'll be a bit weird to not see the giant Mile High Comics sign along the wall this year.
  19. I went on Friday and picked up a Hawkman 4 and a Suspense Comics 11 from Dale Roberts
  20. I'll be there. Would be great to meet other boardies in person, so if there's some sort of boardie meetup, please share! Also, if anyone still needs accommodations, I've got space in an AirBNB across the street, right behind Petco Park. DM me for details.
  21. How big is BCC? I've never been to an East Coast con (have hit every con on the West Coast) but I'm wondering if it would be worth traveling to. I've heard nothing but good things about this show, but would like to hear from some BCC veterans. I typically do everything - hunt for comics, attend panels, artist alley, browse the expo hall, take cosplay pics. Mostly interested in seeing comic book dealers that don't do any West Coast shows, since I see the same dealers at every show. If anyone has been to any West Coast shows and can compare it, that'd help a lot. Like Emerald City, San Diego, WonderCon, LA Comic Con (formerly Stan Lee's Comikaze), Rose City, etc. Have also been to C2E2 in Chicago.
