  1. Time to sell what's left of my Uncanny X-Men collection from the Copper Age. As always, the :takeit:trumps anything being discussed in private messages.

I'm selling the set of 8 comics for $30 plus shipping. That's $3.25 for each book.

    This lot includes: 201 (VF/NM), 201 copy two (NM/better), 205 (VF/NM), 207 (not pictured; NM), 210 (NM), 211 (NM), 212 (NM-), 213 (NM)

I've also got issues 175, 181, 204, 267, and 291 (all in the NM range) if you want them. I'll add them to the lot.

  2. I've been going through my boxes, and I discovered a second set of Saga comics. Looks like I haven't kept my comic collecting software as up to date as I thought. Anyway, typical rules apply: no one on probation, the :takeit:in the thread takes precedence over any negotiations happening in private messages.

I'm selling this set for $300 plus shipping. (That's essentially $150 for the first issue plus a little less than $9 each for the other issues.)

This is a really nice looking set of issues. All unread. All come in a Mylites2 bag with full back. I'm selling these are NM in large part because I rarely grade my personal collection as anything higher. With that said, here's a closer look at each issue:

1: Beautiful copy. There's the typical bindery splits at end of each spine, but that's minor compared to other issues I've seen. NM+ or better. (I have at least one CGC 9.8 book that doesn't look good, but I've also seen CGC 9.6 books that look nearly perfect. That's why I hesitate to go all in and call it a NM+/M.)

2: Very sharp, but there’s a small spine crease at the very bottom of the spine on the BC. At least NM, most likely higher

3: Another nice copy. There is some light scuffing on the BC along the spine. At least NM, most likely NM+

4: Looks frickin’ perfect, but there’s a small spine crease right in the middle of the spine. Does not impact presentation. At least NM.

5: Small spine tic near character’s elbow on FC; at least NM, most likely NM+

6: Dang nice black cover; at least NM+

7: Sweet copy. At least NM+

8: In the right light, you can see 3 tiny spine tics; also a color dot just to the left of the woman’s toe. At least NM

9: Tiny spine tic on FC; also a smudge or color dot type of thing along the spine on FC; likely NM+

10: Sharp, beautiful copy. At least NM+

11: Tiny spine tic on BC and FC. Still at least NM; most likely NM+

12: Tiny spine wripple on the BC (not a crease, not color breaking). At least NM, most likely NM+

13: Looks perfect. At least NM+

14: Looks perfect. At least NM+M

15: Looks fantastic. At least NM+

16: Looks fantastic. At least NM+

17: Looks perfect. At least NM+

18: Couple of minor spine tics. At least NM

The last Conan that made the sales charts it was ranked below 250. Dark Horse has some good titles, they are just not picked up by the masses. Much like any other publisher besides the Big 2. Ever read Lady Killer?

I like Joelle Jones, but the idea behind Lady Killer didn't thrill me. Something off putting about the first cover for some reason. If you're recommending it, perhaps I'll give it a shot.

I think overall their QC is pretty good, but it's a good idea to thoroughly check over every statue as soon as it arrives and contact them if there's any problem.  Sideshow's QC is more in focus at the moment because of the pics posted to Facebook of the BvS Wonder Woman PF, which is a hideous mess.  So bad, that they're not only handing out refunds to unhappy customers, but they're also restoring rewards points used, which they don't normally do.

I suspect that when people start receiving Thanos on Throne next week, it's going to be a different story.  QC should be excellent on that one.  At least it better be.

As a total newbie to statue collecting, I'm waaaay more worried about really getting into the hobby. I've only got two statues, but want more. But the ones I'm interested in are Sideshow. Because of all the comments, I'm even more hesitant to pull the trigger.

  5. I've been hanging out in the statue forum, just reading the various threads, looking at teasers and what not for upcoming Sideshow items. And it seems like over and over, collectors rip on Sideshow's QC problems. It's like they hate collecting but can't give it up.

Is Sideshow really that bad? Or is this a vocal minority of perfectionists raising a fuss?

These are the problems every statue collector faces, space and money.  I don't have a particular focus with my collection, but I lean towards Marvel and DC 1/4 scale pieces.  I currently have a few 1/3 statues on preorder, but I honestly have no idea where or how I'm going to display them.  These days, there are frankly too many companies putting out too many quality pieces for any of us to afford or have space for everything we'd like to obtain.  Hard decisions have to be made!

Wait, companies other than Sideshow produce statues? Looks like I know what I'll be searching for online today. Better block out some time in my work schedule to daydream and drool.

  7. As a statue collector, how do you decide which statue you purchase? Do you focus on only the best renditions and poses? Are you character focused? Are you line oriented (Marvel instead of DC, for example)?

I'm asking in part because I'm a bit bored today at work, but also because I recently narrowed down a list of statues I thought I might want. Then I watched the 12 days of Sideshow event and I'm like, oooh, that might be a cool one. Granted, these are all a year or more away from being purchased, but I don't have the room or budget to buy a whole bunch of these. So to some degree, even knowing a more interesting statue is coming soon is enough for me to reconsider the ones I'm interested in now.

Maybe I'm asking the wrong crowd, and you all have infinite space and money, but I'm not one who loves one specific character or line. I'm interested in pretty much all of 'em. So pulling the trigger on a $500 statue is proving a difficult task with so many options already available and more to come. :frustrated:

    :takeit: pretty good deal

    Wow, that was fast.

I do like to make my listings better than what you'd find on eBay. But maybe I should've rethought those numbers. hm

Just kidding. Shoot me an IM with your address. I'll box up the books and get you a price. One thing I failed to mention in the listing is that I only ship Priority Mail. Too many times I get the stink eye when trying to ship comics media mail.

  9. Time to sell a few more comments to fund my other hobby: Making comics.

Typical rules apply: no HOS, the :takeit:sign takes precedent over any discussions I'm having in private, etc.

Up for sale are issues 1-18 of Saga by BKV and Fiona Staples. I'm also including a copy of the Ghost Variant for issue 7, and a second print copy of issue 8. I'm selling these as a lot. If they don't sell as a lot, I'll sell them in smaller lots, but let's try the whole set first.

Buy the whole set of 20 comics for $250 plus shipping! (That's about $150 for the first issue, and about $5.25 each for the rest.)

#1 looks magnificent. At least NM+. I see no problems with this copy. There are the two typical problems at the spine corners (bindery tear?) but they're pretty insignificant here.

#2 also looks incredible, but there's some scuffing in the middle of the back cover. You can only see it in certain lighting. Looks NM+, but the scuffing might make it NM.

#6 has some minor spine tics, but also looks to have some fingerprints on the back. NM.

#7 Ghost Variant is NM. It presents very well, but does have a few small spine creases, one of which I think breaks color. There’s also the slightest big of spine roll on the top half of the comic.

All other issues are NM. Each issue looks incredible in the comic bag, but upon close inspection in hand, you'll see a spine tic here or there. I've seen plenty of graded 9.6 copies that have more obvious blemishes, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.
