  1. Time to sell some Jungle Comics!

First :takeit: gets it, even if I'm in the middle of a negotiation via PM.

I will not be offering discounts to these prices. Instead, if you're interested, shoot me a PM with an offer.

I purchased all comics from the same board member. The grades assigned to the copies I'm selling are what I bought them as. Same with the prices...I'm offering these for sale at the same price as the original purchase.

  2. Every Wednesday there's a new batch of comics. These comics might have 30,000 or more copies, or they might be closer to 2,000. Most end up on shelves at comic shops or in pull boxes, but I'm sure a lot are cherry picked before they end up there. With all that in mind, if you had to guess, of all the comic printed today, how many remain 9.8 candidates by the time they get into a collector's hands?

For the sake of argument, let's do this in two ways. What percentage would qualify as 9.8 without a press, and what percentage would earn that after a press?

Yes, I know, this is total speculation and guess work and there's no way to come up with a true number, but I'm still interested in what people say, especially those who are sellers or who are immersed in comics on a weekly basis. And I also know that some publishers have better cover stock than others, which makes it easier to attain high grade. Still, I'm curious what the consensus is.

  3. Looks like they're pulling the plug on the Hughes Betty & Veronica series. The solicits for the tradepaperback say this:

BETTY AND VERONICA BY ADAM HUGHES VOLUME 1 collects legendary artist Adam Hughes’ iconic three issue run of the ALL-NEW Betty and Veronica comic series. Betty and Veronica are America’s sweethearts… until they turn on each other! Friendships will shatter. Cities will burn. Nails will be broken.

This is the first time I'm hearing it's a 3-issue run. Wonder if he provided art too slowly, or if there were enough complaints about the story/art that they pulled the plug. I'd think they would've said it was only a 3-issue run before now if it was intended that way.

You have to sign up for it through the eBay site. I think it has been changed that each purchase = 1% deposit of eBay "bucks". (I forget what the base amount was before.)

Then throughout the year they send you messages for up to 10% eBay Bucks (usually with a minimum $50 purchase) for a limited time. Every quarter (? again, not sure on exact timing), all of your eBay bucks are accumulated and given to you as a "certificate" to spend on eBay.

Can't believe I never heard of this. I could've saved $100s. But at least I'll start now. Thanks!

They keep sending me 10% eBay bucks offers and I keep buying stuff and the sellers keep shipping like fools.

A book between 2 pieces of cardboard, not actually taped to the cardboard, inside a manila envelope.

How do you get these eBay bucks? I've never used them.

  6. Here are a few more comics from my small, almost-gone damsel in distress collection. Price includes priority mail shipping in the U.S. If you're outside of the U.S. and are interested, let's discuss shipping fees.

I accept paypal only. I also accept offers. However, first :takeit: gets it, even if I've already made a deal in private.

Comics are in a Gold Mylites2 with full back.

All were purchased from board members, so we're keeping it in the family. :P

:news:If someone wants both comics, I'll sell them for $50 shipped. :news:

Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane 111. Purchased as VF/NM. I'd say it's an accurate grade. Presents incredibly well. $35, shipping included.

Flash Gordon 6. Purchased as NM, and I'd say that's accurate. It's a nice copy. Asking what I paid: $50, shipped.

GI Joe 35. Purchased as VG. That's about right, although I admit to not grading comics that are under VF all that often. Asking what I paid: Solld.

  7. My son is 7 years old now. He is easily the best, most fun, coolest part of my life. He's a blessing. Sure, he's crazy amounts of work sometimes, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

My collecting hasn't changed all that much. I read a lot less, and buy less, but by buying less, I tend to focus on buying comics that are a little more expensive. My monthly pull list is mostly devoted to comics I read to him and copies of those comics I save for him in minty fresh condition.

I've been reading him lots of Scooby Doo comics (or rather, he reads them to me). And whenever an arc is done, we lay on the floor and read the Marvel Star Wars series. It's a little hard to follow for him sometimes with all the talking, but he loves it. And so do I. We stayed up a couple of hours past bedtime on Saturday night, reading comics in bed.

I'm a writer who makes a comic or two each year. Since my son was born on Halloween, I decided to write a scary all-ages comic for him and his friends. I printed a bunch for Halloween to hand out instead of candy, and the response was so good that I decided to print a whole run of color copies. I have a Kickstarter campaign running right now for HOUSE OF FEAR, a story in which my son provided some key plot points. Issue 3 is being drawn right now, and it features my son and three of his friends being chased by a swamp monster.

    Here's a few images from issue 3:

  8. So, it sounds like this would be a good summary of the thoughts in this thread:

    • Prices for "cover keys" will stay solid and possibly continue to increase as long as the artist is relevant.
    • Beyond that, values will at least stagnate, but might see a dip.
    • The classic, iconic covers are more likely to maintain value (by staying relevant).
    • Covers + beloved characters + scarcity is really the equation you're looking for.
    • Ratio variants add relevancy through scarcity.
    • Hughes, JSC, and Dell'Otto are the current hot artists.
    • Artgerm, Ebas, Clayton Crain, and Francesco Mattina might be artists to see more interest soon.

So, yeah, nothing here that's eye opening or new. But still, it's a topic I enjoy discussing.
