  1. I don't know man, the more I see the more I think this -script is terrible.  I saw yet another trailer on NBC last night, and I'm getting quite convinced that they hired two "name" actors for this just to get people in the theater doors.  The essence of the series is going to get lost in all these wild explosions and fancy gun play gimmicks.  I've been saying all along that Idris Elba, for all his many talents, is simply not Roland Deschain.  And McCounaughey. in what appears to be his standard blow dried "I was driving a Lincoln before it was cool" persona, as Walter absolutely does not work.  Call me a purist.

:takeit: @ 10% off.  Going to be looking for more Star Trek cast sigs in the future (you just had to go and have that Nicholas Meyer signing and kick off a new mini-obsession, didn't you?), so keep me in mind if you've got more available.  Thanks!

When I sent an offer and he rejected it, he referenced that X-Men 1 can be worth $50-60k.

at this point I knew I wasn't getting my hands on that copy

Clear signal the guy doesn't understand the hobby.  If he's not willing to listen to the basics tenets that go into pricing or do a quick "Completed Listing" search of his own on eBay, you're probably throwing away your time.

I thought blocking also blocked messages but I learned that is incorrect when the army guy kept asking for the veteran's discount. I am grateful for his service and all but trying to trade on it for a discount on comics is (tsk)

The opinion of this particular OEF veteran -- don't trust the "look at me, I'm a veteran, give me stuff!" types.  I've found that they're often professional sob story spinners, grossly exaggerating their service, and/or outright lying.  One particular guy I was deployed with got real into playing up how he was this great disabled combat vet once we got home.  Of course I know firsthand that he spent about 85% of our time overseas behind a desk and the only combat that he or anyone else in our unit saw was on TV.  But when you need something to blame for your drinking problem and failed marriage...there you go.

Plenty of businesses out there give military discounts and the VA, for all its faults, does have some great benefits for veterans.  So playing the vet card to wrangle an extra 10% out of a guy selling funny books on eBay just doesn't sit well with me.

  5. I recently rolled the dice on a Wolverine 35 PGX 9.8 from eBay, for a $30 bill it was worth the gamble.  The book not only had a blunted and torn corner at the upper spine but also...drum roll...a freakin' dust shadow on the front cover.  It was too laughable to even get upset about.  Hopefully they "authenticate" some more Steve Ditko signatures soon, they're a scourge on the entire hobby.

  6. I just find myself wondering about what must go on in the storyboard room when writing an X-Men movie these days...

"How about we introduce The Brood?!"
'Dude!  Or failing that, we could at least start with the Shi'ar.'
'''Sure sure, but why not just stay Earth-centric with the X-Tinction Agenda?'''
""Have we given enough time to Bishop and his time travelling hi jinks?  I mean he only got a little DOFP screen time.""

--Cross talk continues, until being abruptly cut off by ominous sounding guy sitting in the shadows--

'''''You're all fools!  Fools I say!  We will give the world yet another Phoenix movie, and they will like it!  Fetch my X-Men: The Animated Series DVDs!'''''
"But sir, at least go to the source material.  The Phoenix story arc originated in Uncanny X-Men one hundred..."
'''''You there!  You're fired!  Now someone else bring me my DVDs!!!'''''

    :frustrated:

  7. I gotta say that I've come around a bit on this movie after seeing the trailer, however that comes with the one major caveat that I had to detach myself from the source material to do so.  I think it will be a fun Redbox watch in that hero saves the world kind of sense, but it's going to fail hard as an homage to the source material.  McCounaghey in particular stood out as very little Walter and very much "I'm going to sell you this Lincoln Towncar today".  Add in the ninjas and the speed loaders and the no look headshots...hence the necessary detachment.  It is what it is.  I figure if I'm entertained and in the end King Arthur declares Idris Elba the new King of England or ANNA conquers Siam after the ninth nuclear world war, I'll walk away happy.
