You're describing eBay behavior, which doesn't fly here. In the future, you'd be better off pm'ing the seller in advance on all books that you're interested in to work out a package deal. Using the and then trying to back out when further negotiations don't go your way is just going to open you up to a host of problems.

A book getting tattooed solely for fingerprints is nothing new, it happened to me several years ago. Perfect 9.8 looking book, but with fingerprint marks that I didn't see until after grading. Result -- 8.5 Not to say CGC is doing a great job right now by any means, but they probably aren't all screw ups.

For those asking about “red flags”, I believe any item reported as stolen can be entered into NCIC. Whether or not that actually happened in this instance seems questionable.
