  1. Wow, nice books. Comics bring a ray of sunshine to opening up the mail box. I know the feeling. Nice Blue Beetle's!
  2. While organizing a couple boxes I ran into this guy.
  3. Take the money you think you'll need then quadruple it. You should think about trying the convention route first? Whatever you do don't weigh yourself down with high rent.
  4. My all time favorite of all your comics i've seen over the years. Absolutely beautiful copy. I'll keep looking for one.
  5. They all had greatmoments and were good in there own way. For me the pinnacle was the Next Generation movie First Contact. Fun movie.
  6. arithmetic (slow and steady) growth is good for our hobby...overhyped and often misplaced exponential growth is typically not good for any hobby or market...that was my only point...we cannot continue exponential growth without some sort of market correction or reprocussions.... I definitely do not adhere to any doom or gloom scenario...our hobby is very strong right now and supported with mass media, social media and Hollywood...future can still be bright, but a correction will occur at some point (it has too, or we will defy all economic premises) +1. I don't really see a crash on the horizon and hope it doesn't happen. Fortunately, when there is weakness it is an opportunity to pick up keys at more reasonable prices. If there were to be a crash it is because of macroeconomic problems and your lost comic book net worth will probably be the least of your worries.
  7. Thank you. On jeopardy I was excellent buzzing in but I forgot to phrase in the form of a question at least a dozen times.
  8. Video with Kevin Smith on YouTube is outstanding. I can only imagine going through box after box and only finding thousands of copies of modern drek.
  9. Maybe we can be allies again? Back cover to War Heroes 3 (1943).
  10. Recent pick-up. Not many of these seem to exist? Detailed Everett cover is pretty cool.
  11. Hans sounds very reasonable in that discussion, he makes a lot of sense. Yes and his Comment detractors much less so. +1. After reading the linked article, its comments, this article https://itsartlaw.com/tag/nazi-looted-art/, and this article https://itsartlaw.com/2012/10/18/seven-year-saga-of-bakalar-v-vavra-ends-in-victory-for-current-owner-of-schiele-drawing-and-settles-concerns-over-application-of-the-laches-defense/, I am firmly on the side that the Mr. Kirby's heirs have a difficult path. The referenced Bakalar case on Nazi stolen art shows us that the "case ultimately turned on the defense of “laches,” an equitable doctrine asserted by Bakalar that bars title actions in which there has been a lengthy delay in filing a claim. Ultimately, the district court ruled in favor of Bakalar. It stated that to prevail in asserting the laches defense, a defending party must show that (1) the claimant was aware of the claim (or had reason to know of the claim), (2) the claimant inexcusably delayed in taking action, and (3) the defending party was prejudiced as a result. The district court held that Vavra and Fischer’s “ancestors were aware of–or should have been aware of–their potential intestate rights to Grunbaum property,” and that the ancestors “were not diligent in pursuing their claims to the drawing.” This thread is full of reasons why a laches defense would apply to Kirby art. Here's another reason, the mid 90's I purchased 6 pages from a 1962 kirby pencilled Marvel from a purchaser who had bought them at a Christy's auction in the early 90's. I would argue that the fact that a highly visible public auction was held without any claims of stolen artwork being made effectively scrubs the provenance clean. The same could be argued for pieces having sold on Ebay and Heritage in the past. Obviously, without knowing all the facts this must be determined on a case by case basis. All original art, not just Kirby's, faces the same issue and prices will most likely chill as a result.
  12. Haven't personally had any books pressed but I don't feel nearly as strongly about it as some here. Know it's not exactly the same but to sandwich a book in mylar with a board and then sometimes over tightly pack a long box could certainly look like pressing. Certainly caused post production by human intervention. My take is that CGC does a pretty good job of distinguishing between restoration and primping.
  13. I agree with you but I don't see any of that here depending on what was done by purchaser before notice of intent not to follow through was received?
