  1. Koder plus legions of MtG/fantasy collectors... the overlap is real. :O

  4. The Enrico mess isn't the only drama today. Could make for film noir. Something about Easter.
  5. The Mankini Thor Cabal is wary of the Cult of Sal. Like IH 181 is wary of IH 180.
  6. Appreciate it, yup tried that (inquiry form) route, let's see !
  7. Would anyone happen to have Tom Palmer's contact info (email)? If so, would super appreciate it if you could message me. For a worthy cause. : ) Update: success! Thank you, all.
  8. Folks murmur of the cabal, but there is one far greater and more dangerous in the hobby, made up mostly of lunatics who stop at no limits... The Thor Mankini Cabal.
  9. Pretty happy with this one, fellow D&Ders... published Raistlin, Stephen Fabian, Dragonlance Tales Vol. III: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1807356
  10. The one common denominator in art -- any art -- is that elusive, so utterly subjective (and yet at a certain point mass consensus-driven) attribute we call brilliance, genius, quality, etc. It's why Leonardo is still remembered. It's why certain GA artists' work remains on the rise even as many others fade into forgetful oblivion. Whether art is vintage or modern, that North Star remains.
  11. No one's "fault," I dare say. Best case outcomes I've seen are where folks in dipping their toes -- whether they acquire or not -- start with the big names they know of, then as they fall in love with the hobby (vs. just thinking about the names/$$/etc.), expand their horizons.
  12. Glad to see some of my previous thoughts echoed. Btw Heritage does a yearly wrapup spanning its numerous collectibles categories. This past year, OA was placed prominently within the first two pages. Works by Renoir and Rodin that you'd expect to find in museums paled in comparison results-wise. Ours has become a big league hobby for sure. Gumption and luck and resources can cover up for each other to an extent. If you don't have one of these, you want at least two of the others ideally, or tons of one.
  13. Interesting point. "Nothing good comes easy" is an apt mantra for most collecting hobbies, I'd say... unless you're satisfied with things few others desire, which is perfectly fine. Reminds me of the shin hanga ukiyo-e collecting days. Recommended for those who like excellent art in bountiful supply on a relative budget. I don't assume. For the stuff everyone wants, sorry to say it's basic supply and demand. If you want to watch the new Spidey flick on Opening Day in a decent seat, you'll need some effort. Maybe an extreme minority of folks can rent out a theater -- many others will hustle (in our hobby oftentimes that's selling or cash/trading stuff we like to get something we like more). Others will wait. But it's pointless griping about the lines... though that's only human.
  14. Put another way, virtually no comic artist's work was expensive the first instance they laid pen to paper. Will you find and enjoy and collect and support the next Byrne, the next Tradd?
  15. Agree with Xatari. Go to many rep sites and there's tons of new to newish art in the low three figures. If the point is that "the good vintage stuff" is overpriced, that's the case with everything from sports cards to wine to what have you. But our hobby is ultimately about good art, and there's always good art that can be had on the cheap if one does some research.
  16. 'twas fun! Def would push for a larger venue. Waiting one's turn all the time to browse portfolios had a limiting effect.
  17. @zhamlau's profile pic always thought it resembles klay thompson no lie Commissions are like A box of chocolates, am I right Forrest Gump
  18. Tell your dear spouse that Her or art, expendable? Is a tough tough choice
