  1. NVM I should read...

Matthew McConaughey will play Flagg, the Man in Black

Like I said that is huge. That`s like getting Jack Nicholson to play Joker in 1989 Batman.

    Instant credibility.

You couldn`t ask for a bigger actor to play Flagg. McConaughey is at the top of the ladder right now when it comes to star power.

If he'll play the Man in Black the way he played the character Joe Cooper then he'd be a fine choice. If he played him in the vain of Wooderson in Dazed and Confused it would be a riot. Alright, alright, alright.

  2. Has there ever been a Tim Sale appreciation thread on the board? If I could choose a previous Artist/writer combo to produce another story Sale/Loeb would be in the top 3.

At HeroesCon last year Tim stated that he was looking for a writer to do a Femme Fatale style book when I asked him what he wanted to do next. Hope he's able to put that together.

  3. How come it is considered almost taboo to leave a negative for a seller? I ask as transactions occur in which comics are shipped to me with little to no protection, customer service is never provided, and comics arrive not as described. Shouldn't those warrant negative feedback to warn other buyers about the seller in question that provided that type of service? The entire eBay banned list seems to indicate that I shouldn't for fear of being banned. Kind of weird.

  4.

Work with Mcfarlane is something entirely different, mind you. McFarlane's involvement is a game changer. I think That 90k asking price for the Spawn 54 splash is high but it's also one of the best pieces of Capullo/Mcfarlane art.

Yesterday, I was interested in a Spawn page. The one listed yesterday for $850.00 was inked by McFarlane and had Spawn in every panel. I sent my request in right away as it had everything I'd ever want out of a Spawn page. The best of all worlds was on that page - Capullo, McFarlane, and Spawn. It wasn't to be as someone else beat me to it.

  5. I think some of his Spawn prices are ok, and I can see some collectors who can afford to over spend in the grands to buy up those pages, though I think the more high priced stuff will stay where it is for a while.

The real test though is to see when/ if any of these pages reach the secondary market, and go for around, or more than what he listed for. That might not happen though since the people buying them are ones that probably wouldn't sell them either if they didn't have to.

I attempted to purchase one of the Spawn pages.

It is his artwork and I respect the fact that he has his own ideas about the price-point he's willing to let them be purchased at by collectors/fans.

  6. Dreadful.

Is that comment serious or in jest?

Oh he is serious. Lets just say Mitch and Frank dont get along and leave it at that.

    Doug,

You know nothing about how I get along with Frank.

I have no problems with Frank. If he has a problem with me, I know nothing about it. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Frank.

There are many, many variables that come into play between Frank and I. Things you will never know.

Like I know you're getting that art from Frank's assistant. You're not dealing with Frank directly, regardless what you might say.

Frank would have to approve it or it would be theft. Thus, that's from Frank.

  7. Dreadful.

Is that comment serious or in jest?

Oh he is serious. Lets just say Mitch and Frank dont get along and leave it at that.

But he sells or is it used to sell his art and was one of the few avenues for it. Interesting.

He may sell it from time to time but that doesn't mean it comes directly from Frank.

    Interesting.

  8. Have enjoyed it so far. From the previews it looks like they have a ton of action that is going to happen in the last couple of shows.

Pros: They brought back the old writers so it has the same vibe.

Con: Only one I that I saw was that the flashlight beams didn't look like they did in the 1990's. You know that long eerie beam that went on for ever. Other than that it has just been a joy to watch.

  9. I did in fact contact Heritage via email Sunday evening ( my particular situation is summarized about 10 pages back) and got a call from the person that handles consignments on Monday. He said they did review my purchase and that the bid beneath me and the winning bid (which ended up being vacated) were from bidders he was familiar with and that he considered legitimate.

For what it's worth, he did say he was familiar with these threads and with the situation and would be reviewing all of the art consigned by Romitaman.

As for what that means...people will have opinions on that. They very well could be doing that. I suppose it's possible that it's just spin and they are hoping this goes away quickly. It would be interesting to hear from other folks that feel they've been affected and what communication they have with Heritage.

It would be interesting to know if these underbidders were also underbidders on other items of Mike's.

I spoke with HA in the last two days. I was informed that they believe that I paid the FMV on the auctions I won. They advised that Mike did not bid on the items I won. They could not advise if any "friends" bid on the items as they do not know who the "friends" are or were. The representative I spoke with advised they had received a lot of phone calls about the situation. He also stated that Mike wrote an apology.

  10. I haven't read many posts for the past day or 2 but I wanted to send this email out before I go to bed tonight....

Firstly...I want to tell everyone who has been reading these threads.....(on the now 3 ongoing online threads about me), that I take full responsibility for my actions.

I know many wont believe this...but I truly didn't realize I was doing anything perceived as illegal... But it will 100% be corrected going forward.

I am definitely not a perfect person and I do make my fair share of mistakes in life.... and I made one here according to so many and I feel terrible about it.

I also want to say that I apologize for this profusely as it made many art collectors i've dealt with throughout the years question my integrity, and this issue will not happen again....

The Heritage people and I have talked on the phone about this issue also.

So again.... I apologize to any and all people who this affected in a negative way, as I do appreciate and value everyone I have ever dealt with in this great hobby of ours......and to the many of you who I have become friends with over the many years.... That means a great deal to me personally as well!

With my saying all of that......I do have to also share 1 very negative thing that came from this CGC started thread that upsets me greatly.......

I found out today after I got home from church that my good friend John Romita Sr had left me a phone message.......So I call him up again to wish him a happy birthday........and he tells me that someone called him this morning (Sunday.....on his 86th birthday) to ask him if he approves of ROMITAMAN using his "ROMITA" name on his website since ROMITAMAN is an unethical person....... insinuating that I lie and cheat others.

John refused to give me the phone number as he knew I was more than upset after hearing this.

like I said earlier.....I can put up with people putting me down on the chat boards....whether they have any facts or not......... but I unequivocally do not feel its remotely OK to play games to the point of finding my very dear artist friends personal phone number to call him up to bash me.

Whoever you are you should really be ashamed of yourself...... and that's putting it very mildly!

....And I'll say again 1 last time.... in case someone has somehow read my initial statement above wrongly.......I'm truly sorry if my actions hurt anyone in any way in this great hobby of ours..... and I'll do my very best to make sure it never happens again.

    Mike Burkey

    .

    TO MIKE

Thank you for manning up. I believe that everybody deserves a second chance and thank you for taklking to the cgc boards, which by far is fandom's best website. I for have no doubt that in the future you will simply put a reserve on a item you want to sell thru an auction house and not interfere with the bidding process. I would buy or trade from you based upon the above statement.

I know an accounting would be a nightmare for everybody so may I suggest to you to make things right that you consider donating some art to the comic book defense fund which I believe might be tax deductible and you will need to verify.

I think it's a fair and will benfit all fandom and thank you again for coming on board and respecting fellow board members by replying to this Thead.

I wish you all the best in the future.

    HA, COMICLINK, CC...

For the buyers that might have possibly paid a higher price and the top bidders whom lost the piece , I would propose the following:

Contact each person and send them a certificate for one buyer fee transaction for free. You will get more traffic, stimulate the market after this incident and create good faith for all collectors, it is the simple and fair thing to do for everybody.

One free transaction fee? They pay for something they were unaware was occurring or does someone else get the bill for that fee you want them to wave? That is how they make their profits.

  11. In light of recent events where Burkey has admitted to shilling many consignments through one or more third parties, do your organizations plan on accepting future consignments from Mike? Do your organizations plan on allowing him to bid in your auctions?

Has anyone brought the other thread and his response to it to these parties you are interested in answering your question?

Also, party A can give artwork to party B to place at auction. It would be an easy walk around to still get items listed and sold if party A wasn't allowed to sell something.

  12. Well for anyone who wants an update on my situation with the Hildebrandt they answered my request for a tracking number and they sent "something" out on Tuesday priority mail. I check the tracking number and it reaches my post office but it says it's undeliverable. I call the post office and they say that the writing is illegible on it and I am going after work to check it out. When I email Julie about it she says that they needed more time to think and that they don't want to sell it for so cheap and that they are issuing a refund. So.... did they mail the painting only to assume it would be sent back to them? Did they mail an empty box? Why mail anything? This is almost a comedy at this point.

Save everything, print it off, and go talk to your county attorney about any charges you can file.

  13. He may end up one of those "he who dies with the most toys, wins!" stack of unsold art as the marketplace may be unwilling to pay what he wants, but at least he's maintaining rate integrity and for those who end up taking that leap of faith and paying the asking price, hopefully there's never a future fire sale where he drops prices and market values adjust downward.

The crazier the prices the more likely that whoever buys now at the asking price will be eventually burned, but as you said best of luck to anyone who decides to jump into the water.

At ~30K for 50 issues worth of covers, I can't imagine it being optimal to just sit on everything. Heck, I'd pay 15K for a few covers, which is Jim Lee pricing. I can't help but believe he's just going to sit on these for decades. From an investment standpoint, it would be far more lucrative for him to sell some and invest those earnings. He's taking a huge gamble on the long-term hype and market for his run, which he is seemingly dismissing at it's peak.

If Greg is turning down 10-15k for Batman covers, wow. I guess he wants what he wants but he's done so much artwork over the years that it seems crazy to set 30k and up as a price point. what does that mean, 2k filler pages? I think He's basically locking out 99% or more of the people who would be in the market for his work.

I love Greg and as popular as his batman seems to be I don't know that it's reached Hush or ASBAR proportions with fans or that he has reached or passed Jim lee's popularity over the last 15 years. Hush still seems to be the barometer for 21 century artist driven comic book popularity

That's if he wants to sell them. Maybe he just doesn't want to sell them.

  14.

Much to the dismay of guys like me who would absolutely love to get a page from Hush - maybe someday :)

I feel that the Loeb/Lee/Williams/Sinclair "HUSH" is going to be looked upon as one of the most classic storylines of Batman and comics in general, where the prices will keep on going up since it seems rare to find pieces available in the market for sale and most are in private collections of fans who love 'em.

In that, I'd personally rather have a Hush panel page over any Capullo cover any day because the artwork means more to me than being just an aesthetic pin-up of sort. It's one of the finest examples of great storytelling.

I only wish I'd gotten into buying artwork when Albert Moy had pages available years ago.

The last Comic Link auctions of last year had a couple Jim Lee Hush pages in them I think. Maybe I'm wrong.
