  1. Man we are really tough on Warren around here. So I thought we would play nice for a little bit and give everyone the opportunity to post some of thier favorites, nicest or whatever they want...regarding WARREN.

I will start this with first off one of my favorite artists for his use of vibrant colors: Richard Corben, and on top of that my favorite cover that he did for Warren.

Man I love this one... cloud9.gif

  2. Wondering if magazines are gonna' be the next hot item in comic collecting. This could just be the tip of the iceberg we're seeing now.

Well I do not think that you need to go very far to determine this. Magazine prices have already doubled to tripled in many instances over the last 5 years. And this was caused mainly from Magazine Collectors of course with a small inflow of new collectors most likely from the comic world. Once the majority of the Comic world starts to respect magazines for what they are. Awesome peices of literature and art that I feel surpase comics in many ways, then you will have a real feeding ground.

One of the large collectibility charms that Comic Magazines carry is the fact that they were RARELY stored or collected like comics. Many were stored stacked in piles in boxes. That box would be moved in and out from under beds, closets etc, and cause much of the corner blunting that you will see. In addition most were tied in bundles I believe and sustained a lot of damage from that type of delivery.

None the less, if you are a magazine fan, I think that your cherished collection will start to see that appreciation that it finally deserves, in pretty great magnitudes over the next few years!

  3. seawald is the collective term for those two companies

anyway, magazines with great covers make perfect sense the way things are collected now

Exactly. CGC is all about showcasing books. I think that we will see a LARGE inflow of new CGC collectors into this space in the very near future. The painted covers on Magazines is what I always loved about them, and makes them perfect for the CGC type investor/collector/enthusiast as a showpeice even more so then Comic Books. The more mature and quirky stories are just an added bonus imho.

This is the spot, to post a writeup and a link if possible to some Very High Prices being paid for our favorite magazines. This should help keep a record for our members here how well some of these books are actually doing in the Marketplace.

Here Is one that I just came across to birth this thread into infancy.

    Tales of the Zombie #1 NM- 9.2 Marvel 1973 --- $90.00

WOW! You obviously had 2 buyers that wanted this book enough to chase it hard. I think that this is common with higher grade books, where people have been looking to get a VF/NM or better copy of books for years and keep on stumbling upon Capped VF issues. When a true HG book shows up, they account the variable of time and how long it may take them to find another into their bidding and then you have a new type of demand. Will be interesting to follow.

  7. I hadn't thought of the Horrific #3 as particularly high grade until you mentioned it, but it is a very glossy flat copy. When I bought it from Harley Yee 10 years back ( for a whopping $38), I think he called it a FN- , probably due to the spine wear (no splitting though) and the edge tanning at the top and bottom of the covers (more noticable on the inside). After looking at alot of CGC scans of GA books (and even buying a few) I'd feel safe calling it at least a FN 6.0

Here is another excellent Don Heck cover - when I was a Marvel zombie in the early 70s, I didn't appreciate his talents, but when I discovered there was more to pre-code horror than EC, I realized how great he was. And you've got to love the logos on the Comic Media horror books - did he design them?

893whatthe.gif ....I"ve got to get me that book....Amazing

  8. Those are some nice ACG books with vibrant colors... definitely pre-code... you don't see that evil white stamp anywhere, do you? headbang.gif

What evil white stamp are you referring to my friend? Pardon my Naiveness!

Hey for any of you who hav'nt yet visited the Skywald, Eerie Publications and Stanley Magazine thread in the magazines forum, please visit, that thread contains many over the top covers that mimic many early precode books as well as reprint their stories:

Skywald, Eerie Publications, Stanley Magazines Oh MY! Magazine Thread

  9. Well this is just me adding my 2 cents from the peanut gallery. I remember about 2 1/2 years ago there was this seller on eBay from the Tacoma/Seattle Area of Washington that had on original collection of many of the Pre-Code EC books as well as titles like "This Magazine is Haunted" all in awesome strict Fine 6.0 to NM 9.2 grades. They had awesome vibrant covers. Well unfortunately I am a poor college boy and all of my bids got eclipsed. But they were going for fractions of guide. I could'nt believe it. I would have taken a loan out for them if I had the time to do so. *tear* sorry.gif
