That’s a tough question. I know some people will tell you all these recent sales are FOMO, and the book will likely level off at some point. Very possible that happens of course, it did eventually with AF15 after it went on a meteoric rise years ago. But is it a gamble worth taking knowing it may not and the book rises more in the process 🤷‍♂️? I think the prudent thing to do is just jump on a copy, but that’s me and is what I did. I know others will disagree. Crazy that no more than a week ago an 8.5 2nd print sells for $1,675, and now a 6.0 sells for $1,035. Who knows where it keeps going.

Valid points.  I did debate on just settling for the 3rd print, but it was printed way after tmnt #2 was on the shelves, so it doesnt truly feel like a 1st appearance.   I do have a 4th print in 9.8 condition i plan to pass down, but the 1st printing image is more iconic, and the better cover in my opinion

  2. If you guys were me, i know i cant afford the 1st print so i plan to buy the 2nd print, is it better to grab a copy now even with the prices the way they are or do you think theyll settle back down months from now?  Im looking for 1 mid grade 2nd print for my personal collection to hand down to any future kids or my nephew, once he is old enough to get him into comics.

But it's not the same. I could lay out a line of books that have slight variations in color, and the point at which the run changes from the "light" version to the "dark" version would be subjective. It's not subjective with something like a second print. There's a different barcode.

Your source acknowledges there was no official notification to pull the books (i.e. there was no recall).

No the website doesnt say if it was a recall or not, but a local comic shop by me that received the error black print was told to pull the comics and send back for a refund/corrected version.  I know a few people had already gotten to the comics before the owner could/before he read the email directing him to pull the comic, so they were sold to a few people.  This is when the book first hit the shelves.

I think some of you people need to spend time at a printing press for a few days, and run the machine for hours on end.

    I have.  Ink happens.

Oh i knoe people who currently wirk on printing books/leaflets...and it is indeed an inking issue....still a variant on the normal edition that some people collect.  Like i said above, id rather buy a hulk 181 over an error in inking or what not, but every buyer has their own free will to choose what to spend their money on.

It's quite different because we're talking about two distinct print runs. In the case of Marvel Point One (and every other book that went back to press for an additional printing), the first was in short supply, so it went back to press with a very distinct change/addition that separated it from the first printing. Also, I'd like to know what source you have that EOS was recalled.

To me its exactly the same.  If someone wants to pay extra for a variation so be it.  I could care less honestly, just stating its up to the buyer to decide what they want to spend their money on.  With that said, i remember my local comic shop getting a notice that the first printings of EOS #2 had ink bleeding and to cull them.  These would be the error black printings some people were lucky to get.   As for their value,  its up to the buyers to decide.  Id rather spend my money on a nice copy of hulk 181....but to each his own.

Heres a site with the supposed error notice

  6. If people want to pay more for a color varaition its no different than someone buying a 2nd print marvel point one with kamala Khan over the 1st printing.  I know the all black eos #2 recalls were the 1st printings before being changed over to the magenta color.  In between the black cover and corrected cover was the maroonish darker magenta color.   I think the solid black color cover will command a premium at some point, but the market will dictate when or if it happens.

  7. Okay thanks.  Im going to save up for a 2nd copy then.  Im not looking for it to be an investment but im an 80s kid and grew up loving the turtles.  With that said, if i had to sell it in say 10 years or 15 or whatever due to health issues or what not, id want to at least have a copy i can possibly recoup my money from.

  8. If you guys were me would you save up to buy a 2nd print graded 7.0 to 8.5 or get a 3rd print in 9.4 to 9.8 condition?  Which would be a better long term hold if for any reason I have to sell it in say 10 years or so?

  9. So the new batman legends robin king 1 in 25 variant is selling over $200 or more for a preorder?  Now i believe in capitalism and you being able to sell whatever you want for whatever some one is willing to pay, but this book isnt even out yet.  So i assume all these over priced preorder sales are from comic shop owners.  I just dont get how you can sell an item for that amount when im sure DC has a maybe $10 amount listed for the variant.  So how are presales already that high of an asking price?

That post tells me you're buying beyond your means.  Make sure you're prepared before committing money you dont have to funny books.

Its not that im buying beyond my means but with how things are due to the coronavirus,  you can have no job come tomorrow.  So i usually like to plan ahead accordingly.  Granted i do have a savings to fall back on if that happens but at some point, if the economy is garbage and i cant find another job id have to liquidate my belongings to survive.  That is what i meant.
