  1. I purchased a really nice, near complete run (38 of 46 issues) of Secrets of Haunted House.  Nearly every issue is in same or better condition than the 1st issue pictured here. I don’t see many of these posted in this thread.  Are these not as sought after as some of the other DC Horror?  Regardless there are lots of cool covers in this run!

Thanks for bringing back memories from the earliest days of my collecting.  My best friend and I raided a long box at a local used book store of all the number 1’s. This Reprint of the original run from Charlton is one I snagged.

Wow, old post! No I didn’t follow up on that as my focus shifted to Precode Horror but I’m pretty sure it was a HOM issue. I know I have it as I remember reading it. Very creepy story! Oh, welcome to the boards too! (thumbsu

Thanks for the reply.  I’ve been going through this thread and now I’m hooked.  There are so many cool covers!

You're welcome. Yeah I got a little obsessed with it. Searched for like an hour and nothing. Could it be from something that was never finished or released? Seems to me that Al is going to kill a dog.....maybe they decided to scrap it.

I guess it makes sense that not all work gets published.  This page comes up in an eBay listing when I searched for Greg Larocque. I wanted to know where it appeared before deciding whether or not to make an offer.

There was another story that I'd like to re read from a HOM or HOS. Had to do with a guy making a deal with the devil to bring his little girl back to life and at the end he gets her and everything seems fine. In actuality though, the last scene is the man obviously deranged (and tricked by the devil), holding the dead girl. Pretty shocking for a code approved book!

Were you ever able to find the issue with this story?

  6. Thanks to all who have responded so far.  You have brought up several good points that I had not considered. It is cool to find out that something already unique has something extra that sets it apart even more.

if you take it out of the bag, it would help us see the slab better

part of me thinks the red label adds to the value-- since you know the book has probably not been pressed or cleaned

if you were to resubmit it, a clean and press might not be a bad idea either.

Here are pics after removing the bag.

  8. I wanted to get opinions on the resale of slabs with older red label versus the newer blue label.

If two books were identical in every way including grade (except one red label and other blue) would one book tend to be more desirable than the other?

Would resubmission of a red label slab make sense?  How common is it for resubmission to result in a better grade due to differences it the strictness of grading on low grade books.

This is the book I am considering for resubmission.  Note the 20 cent price written over the UPC code.

    Comments and suggestions are appreciated.
