  1. results of the last 2 auctions I was in on. The first pic is form one the last 3 are from the latest which was 2 decent size tubs I just kinda picked from the stacks to take a pic's mostly bronze and copper along with the random Planet comics. The lone rangers covered is detached and is missing the last page. The Taffy Cole cover is also detached but it still has nice color and I didn't have a Cole cover so that's now checked off the list. The Planet comics is in bad shape but another box checked off. So all in all I'm pretty happy with it.
  2. Not really a looking at a collection story but this the story above brought back the memory. I live in a pretty rural area and i saw an auction flyer at the the local grocery store a few years back. looked closer and saw a picture of a straight arrow frazetta cover and some mystery in space among the stack of about 10-20 comics. Decided I gotta go and grabbed the flyer. Drove about 1 hour out over some gravel/mud roads and what i wouldn't call low water bridges but rather "hope its not gonna rain or anything past this point is screwed" bridges to get to the sale. Parked in a cow field, cows included got my number and headed to the trailers with the items and found the comics in the display case in really nice condition. looked through the stack. the straight arrow was there along with the mystery in spaces with some more 50's sci fi and some dell disney and then the sky started to cloud up pretty bad . They started on tools and about 20 mins after that the sky opened up in what my grandpa used to call a cow on a flat rock rain storm. As they kept on selling i went to a little wood shed and kept an eye on the trailer with the comics, when they got close to the case i went out only to find the comics gone. I asked a group standing there what happened to the comics and an old lady said she didn't want needle point work and pillow cases she wanted to get wet so she took the comics out and put those in cause she didn't think anyone would care about comics.......................... They were soaked and torn at this point, disgusted i got in my care to leave only to come upon the "bridge" at which point i had to wait for what seemed like forever for it to go down and slide around muddy roads to get back home. The words i said on that drive would have made sailors blush.
  3. Picked up a few lots of mostly western comics from a local estate auction and these were part of it.
  4. I picked up a few lots on a local online estate sale. Mostly westerns but a few golden age comics and an odd jerry lewis comic with a beatles cameo.
  5. Nothing earth shattering but aside from the batman 125 which I paid $3 for everything else was a dollar, and as the saying goes I'd buy that for a dollar.
  6. Yep, very petty. I guess never get between a mouse and his cheese......
  7. I wouldn't hold out much hope for any new fantastic 4 stories. Marvel has clamped down pretty hard. In the pc game marvel heroes the fantastic 4 and silver surfer have been in the game for over a year, they just announced because of their license renewal they will stop selling the fantastic 4 characters along with the silver surfer and their costumes starting the 1st. To me if they are doing this to content already released, anything new is going to be a wing and a prayer.
  8. A few things I picked up from a small local auction. They're a little rough but its nice saving some from the wild.
  9. You could get marvel unlimited on your smart phone/tablet. They have a very large collection of old marvel back issues you can download and read. It's not the same as reading a real comic but it might scratch the itch for you.
  10. I think with all great advise he's been getting nobody noticed his biggest mistake.........wanting a john deere. Get rid of the green and get a nice red IH.
  11. Too bad the batman 125 had a cover that looked like he put wet suckers on it and then peeled them off.
  12. Picked up a small box of comics at a local estate auction. Alot of them had missing or torn covers but there were some that were complete and not in horrible shape.
  13. I went to an eastate auction yesterday, the sale had around 2k-3k mostly bronze age comics. But instead of selling them by the stack the auctioneer decided to sell the whole lot which went for 2.4k or 2.5k. But packed along with the comics he did have some art which i picked up pretty cheap. The auctioneer told me the owner was really carefull with how he stored things keeping like things together etc. Which made him think the art was made by a comic artists. But for the life of me the onlyWood/Wodds artists I can think of is wally.
  14. Man, that's COOL. I love stuff like that. I'd be willing to bet that the playing pieces are probably little metal cars. The game pieces that are with it now are your basic wooden peg type pieces, whether or not those are the originals......... The original game instructions are still there so im thinking they just might be.
  15. The original owner bought 3 sets and combined them in that box. After looking through it I found the creepy crawler molds and the fighting army men molds also.
  16. Picked up a few things at a farm auction sorry about the shine in the pics.

  18. I've had pretty good luck at estate auctions. Of course I live in a rural farming area and most of the people at these auctions have little to no idea on the value of comics. I've walked out with ASM 41, superman 199 and a handful of silver age batman/det's after spending 15-20. It's all about the area ya live in and getting lucky.
