Comprehensive List of DC Universe Logo UPC Variants
LikeEmScanned replied to revat's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
I wanted to run a theory by the group. We know that most of the DCUs came from 20-packs, 10-packs, 2-packs, Best of '94/'95 and Superman/Batman/Robin/Green Lantern/Flash Collector Sets. Recently, I have been asking some eBay sellers if they were the original owners and if so, do they remember how they got the book. I asked one seller about the "secret origin" of the Detective #690 DCU that he had for sale. Verbatim: " Any idea where this Detective Comics #690 came from?" This was included in 12 comic straight run/lot of Detective from #681-#692. All the other comics had the direct sales barcode. His response was "I can tell you I subscribed to Detective Comics, so that's where they came from." Does anyone think that by late 1995, DC was sometimes sending DC Universe copies out to direct mail subscribers? Maybe this could account for some low print run/hard-to-find issues? -

Oops, I did it again. Couldn't let the month end without unearthing yet another previously unknown DCU. Seriously, I feel cursed... All I really want is known DCUs like Robin 4, Superman 77 3rd print, Superman 100, etc. but for some reason, I keep having more success finding unknowns like this one, Superman 97, Flash 100 newsstand and Robin 12? The hunt continues... -

I read over half the pages in the thread. Was anyone ever able to confirm that Steel #23 exists? I hope this isn't against the rules, but here are some links to some DCUs and DCUs in lots currently available on the 'bay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/46-44-dif-DC-Superman-1992-2005-Mostly-unread-50-/362013889143? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-DC-Comic-Book-Superman-Metropolis-90-Near-Mint-Condition-Graded-9-0-/292159015851? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPERMAN-IN-ACTION-COMICS-DC-Comics-1984-2007-37-diff-0-553-852-Ann-7/361165895798?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-in-Detective-Comics-681-692-All-Issues-from-1995-DC/112423461681?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/GREEN-LANTERN-RELATED-44-book-lot/361989859000?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-22-DC-Comics-Wonder-Woman-Justice-League-Aquaman-Batman-Green-Lantern-/302345344867? http://www.ebay.com/itm/32-DC-COMICS-COMIC-BOOKS-SUPERMAN-BATMAN-ROBIN-JUSTICE-LEAGUE-MORE-LOT/371853984896?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-32-DETECTIVE-COMICS/221913446933?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Action-Comics-LOT-of-10-662-700-704-705-719-720-722-724-728-731-VF-NM/222533925785?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Action-Comics-LOT-of-10-700-703-704-705-707-079-711-712-716-719-VF-NM/222533925811?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/lot-of-12-Detective-Comics-between-681-699-Batman-1995-96-DC-Comics-VF-NM-/162559764038? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Superman-82-2nd-print-82-Foil-100-Foil-101-4-books-mix-lot-DC-Comics/112444739985?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Box-18c-DC-Comics-Showcase-94-5-of-12-Huntress-loose-cannon-bloodwynd/252760449882?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEEL-28-ANNUAL-1/182086774874?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-Superman-Comics-78-85-86-Man-Of-Steel-20-22-30-57-DC-Save-On-Shipping/182602450983?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Supergirl-3-of-4-issue-miniseries-VF-DC-Mar-1994-Roger-Stern-June-Brigman/252962134973?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Superman-94-2nd-series-Dead-Again-Shadows-of-the-Past-1994-/162550198431? http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEEL-96-24-DC-COMICS-BOOK-FREE-SHIPP-GOOD-CONDIT-NO-BAG-C33/182257523292?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Superman-The-Man-of-Steel-1991-38-2-VF-NM/352054341177?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 Happy hunting! -

Impressive! I never found one in the wild - I had to resort to getting my #94 from eBay, coincidentally from a UK seller. Although the funny thing is that I found a non-DCU Flash 94 2nd print at a con this weekend. I was half tempted to buy it. It also makes me think about other DCUs that I've had to resort to buying from non-US eBay vendors and never seen in the US brick and mortar wild: Tec 685, AOS 539, Robin CS, WW #97, Superboy Annual #1, GL #77, MOS #59, Superboy #29. -

Yes, for $185 plus shipping, which is about half what I was expecting based on gpa. I actually have two other 9.8s of the same book, so I'm doing BINs with them. I think the auction route was a mistake, plus some possible bad timing of the auction end and general time of year. The book seems all over the place in terms of pricing. I had some raws two years ago where I sold one for $44 and then a couple of months later was able to sell another raw copy for double that. I think general awareness/demand of the variant cover tends to cycle. BTW, I usually don't have a lot of love for Sienkiewicz. I remember reading New Mutants and Elektra: Assassin as a kid, totally not getting his very abstract style. Made those books very hard to read... But this cover is a beauty. Sienkiewicz sure has range in his artistic styles, doesn't he?

I love the posts that display all of the known DCU variants for a series. Here is The Flash, with #95-100 in the Terminal Velocity box set -

Very nice! I just got one myself from a fellow boardie. Only 524 eludes me in that series run!
