  1. For value tier I'd agree. For modern I'd still send in the books because the turnaround times are like a roller coaster. Next week they could be down to 27 days again. I feel the same way about pressing. Even though Quick Press is 93 days now, I will likely still send in a couple of batches soon and hope that 3 months down the road turnaround times are back to 60 days or so. Last time I waited until the turnaround times went down to 40 days and wound playing catchup for 2 months as the wait time increased by 5 days each week.
  2. It's really a win-win situation for CGC. They won't change anything with the high turnaround times because they are banking on collectors slowing down their submissions. Once the turnaround times go down to normal, people will start sending in their books again. In the meantime, CGC will continue grading at the same pace they are now with the same staff.
  3. Just a general question, but can cleaning provided as part of the pressing service, remove fingerprints? Just checking for my own info.
  4. I'll usually receive grader notes for books graded 9.2 and lower. About 75% of the time for 9.4 graded books and probably 30-40% of the time for 9.6 ones. On a side note, I'm a little perplexed with CGC's grading recently. For example, over the past 5 months I've had 7 modern submissions graded, totaling around 100 books. The first 3 (September) and last 2 (December & January) submissions, my grading was pretty spot on (over 90% efficiency, with several books coming back higher than expected). However, for the other 2 submissions (November) I was around 50% efficiency. The discrepancy is a bit perplexing, especially since I've tried really hard to hone my grading skills to match CGC standards. It just feels like one submission I'll get the benefit of the doubt for any semi borderline books, while the next submission every single borderline book will get downgraded.
  5. Are they labeled as received or SFG? These days "Received" and "SFG" pretty much mean the same thing. That being said, my 12/11 received slow track modern were shipped over a week ago.
  6. Slow Track Modern went from Received to SFG today. Not sure what that means.
  7. So does CGC handle the back and forth shipping fees for these mechanical errors?
  8. Then your wait time will seem even longer, because you'll be sitting at home counting every minute.
  9. You have to believe that turnaround times for value and pressing will go down at some point. I can't imagine people sending in their books at the current pace if the turnaround time is around 9 months.
  10. One other thing I've noticed with respect to turnaround times is that pressed books received by CGC after pressing tend to be graded a week before regular submissions noted as received. My assumption is that it takes about a week for books to transfer from CCS to CGC and get entered into the system. CGC will factor that into their grading turnaround times.
  11. Has anyone had any issues with cracked cases when shipped back from CGC? I used to get them all the time 10-15 years ago, but CGC has done a great job with secured packing lately. Unfortunately, in my last batch of 15 books, one of the cases was cracked at the bottom, but not damaging the inner well. It was surprising since the rest of the books were fine and there were was no noticeable damage on the outside package.
  12. Books were shipped today. These were previously quick pressed. Was anticipating 8 - 9.8's and 7 - 9.6's. Was pleasantly surprised with 14 - 9.8's and 1 - 9.4.
  13. Were you already charged? Just make sure they didn't charge you for fast track (hopefully not). I have a 12/21 submission that is still labeled as received.
  14. Looks like things are moving quick now for modern slow track.
  15. I recently had one modern slow track submission received on 11/16 and shipped 12/16, while my 11/12 received was shipped on 12/23.
  16. At that point the CGC cases will be worth more than the books inside, since they can at least serve as dinner trays.
  17. Because yawning doesn't go well with grading.
  18. I tend to do better if doing a press submission when the turnaround times are long. It seems that once books hit the 80 day turnaround time, less people start submitting, which results in books getting pressed in 45-50 days in a couple of months. Waiting until turnaround times go down to 40-45 days is when everyone and their grandmother starts sending in their books to be pressed.
  19. The same thing happened to me with the quick press option. When I submitted the books, the turnaround time was 42 business days. Every time I caught up it would go up by another 5 business days. This happened for 6 straight weeks.
  20. Is it quick or regular press. I noticed that CCS increased the turnaround time for regular moderns to 80 business days. My last batch of quick press books took 79 business days to complete.
  21. These books were previously pressed by CCS. Was hoping for 6 - 9.8's and 4 - 9.6's, but was pleasantly surprised with 8 - 9.8's and 2 - 9.6's. Based on my recent experiences with grading (good and bad), it appears I do a better job when sending CGC 2 batches at the same time (one normal and one press submission). Whenever I take this approach, if I see the slightest dent in a book, I'll throw it in with the books to be pressed. In contrast, if I'm just sending one regular submission (without pressing), I subconsciously give certain books the benefit of the doubt, and get burned later.
  22. greggy, that's because you send CGC glow in the dark shipping boxes.
  23. It's interesting how some submissions go from SFG to shipped in a matter of hours, while others sit in encapsulation hell for much longer. Edit: Just went into grading.
  24. Received by CGC 12/21. 5 business days is not bad.
