I believe that is correct, What do you think a Universal ,5 would be worth ? I know one sold on Ebay for 8500 right before this one but I would think that's a minimum a 10k book ----you could certainly argue legitimately asking for at this point (maybe 15k?)
sounds fair, and one should also consider that the one on ebay was on the lower end of a .5 id say, missing 2cfs plus a 6th page on top of having BP. Whereas, some .5s can just be missing the back cover with better PQ etc.

Beautiful copy!
So with that .5 copy on ebay sold, does that mean no copies on the public market currently?

Given the strong feelings at the time about the U.S. staying out of the war, you wonder whether some newsstands might have been reluctant to display the book. Obviously by then there wasn't much doubt about the character of Hitler and the Nazi regime and Germany's invasion of Poland had happened, but, still, the cover certainly stakes out a strong position on the side of the U.S. entering the war.
We know Cap 1 sold well, but does anyone know whether there was any controversy over it? Lindbergh was drawing big crowds to his speeches advocating keeping the U.S. out of the war. Would the people attending those speeches and similar events have been indifferent to their kids buying Cap 1? Maybe because it was a comic, nobody much cared, and it flew under the radar of that political controversy.
There actually was quite abit of controversy in regards to cap 1, as it was before the US entered the war and there were American Nazi parties in NYC.
Kirby and Simon received death threats, and people were protesting outside of the timely offices.

I think the cover plays a big part in the rise too especially as now classic covers seem to be a really hot market.
It's an incredible cover, one of the best super-hero GA covers if not the best IMO
I personally love the colors, the patriotism, cap punching Hitler, it's also the first ever Hitler cover!

FLASH COMICS #5 -- ONLY KING COVER! -- 1.0
Tough book to come by in any shape. This is about as entry level as it gets for this one, but as stated, tough book.
Looks okay in a mylar but probably better served to live out the rest of its days in a slab picture frame.
-- COVER COMPLETELY SPLIT AND TAPED TOGETHER -- COVER SLIGHTLY BRITTLE EDGES AND TANNED --
-- INTERIOR IS VERY TAN, A LITTLE DIRTY & SLIGHTLY BRITTLE (PQ GETS BETTER TOWARDS THE MIDDLE) --
PRICE: $225

Did we ever get the back story on where this book came from? I was hoping Heritage might include something in catalog write up, but they didn't.
+1 also interested.
I think the book sold in the expected range

No club for one of the best covers of all time?
With the recent "discovery" of the church copy, now's as good as any time I think for its own thread.
I know some of you guys have amazing copies of this book so please lets see them
I will also take this chance to ask if anyone has or knows of a coverless copy (Does not need to have the elusive centerfold!) I would greatly appreciate it!
Here is my entry-level copy I just picked up, glad it presents well with all major art intact including the Schomburg signature at the bottom left!

Anyone know what the Cap 46 hammered at?

I have seen a low grade copy with the exact same color defect and label, so there are probably some more error copies out there as well.

Flash Comics #9, Moldoff Hawkman cover. 1940
Shelly Moldoff drew drew the absolute BEST Flash covers, only his had Hawkman as the feature. The cover is detached and there is tape on the spine. It does not appear to be all split, but there are some horizontal tears and I see at least one small split. There is a piece missing on the back at the bottom of the spine. There are two pieces of what look to be medical tape on the book spine. Pages and cover appear to be very supple and the cover has bright colors.
It's not a book I'd normally part with, but I just upgraded, so this is my under copy. Grade is in the Good range, Bin is $325.00
