  1. Since today marks the 60th anniversary of Strange Tales #80's on-sale date, here is my low-grade copy I bought from an eBay seller in 2015 for $19.99 shipped:
  2. My last issue of Sub-Mariner is this coverless #3, which I got from that same comic dealer friend for a quarter at the local flea market:
  3. I also have this low-grade Sub-Mariner #2 that was five bucks at my favorite store in 2015:
  4. This coverless Sub-Mariner #1 was another book I pulled out of my comic dealer friend's quarter boxes in his store at the flea market:
  5. In 2015, I paid ten bucks for this Tales to Astonish #96: Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way what happens when you slide comics out of bags that still have tape on their flaps!
  6. Until recently, the only Silver Age Thor comics I owned were these two freebies from my favorite store (a coverless Thor #131 and Thor Annual #2 with no back cover):
  7. Not a recent pickup, but this was free at my favorite store because it has no back cover:
  8. My comic dealer friend's store used to be at our local flea market. I rescued the above World's Finest Comics #148 and this Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #94 from his quarter boxes:
  9. This is not a recent purchase, but I finally got around to scanning it today:
  10. Ger might have conflated two stories but his description in my mind match the Guard Duty story you linked to. However, I have in my mind another story where the soldier gets caved in and then might decide to shoot himself when he hears the enemy dig in his direction. You best bet of course would be to contact Ger directly. Since it seems tough to contact him via the blog, send him a message on eBay - His ID there is simply gerapeldoorn @Scrooge Do you know the name of this tale, any creator credits, its issue's cover date, or what title it was from? Sadly, no. I looked through some scans I have to see if I could find it ... but no luck. I can still see the panel I remember with the soldier in the cave-in looking at his girl's photo while musing on what to do but no luck turning up from what book it came from. I thought of more questions and they may help us find what you described. Are you sure the story is pre-code? By “the enemy,” you mean communist soldiers, right? Can you recall its beginning or ending? Do you suppose someone besides Atlas published it?
  11. They changed the acronym because Marvel Adventures The Avengers is a kid-friendly series.
  12. My first was this 8.0 Swamp Thing #22 with white pages that I purchased on eBay in 2016 for $24.98 ($19.99 BIN plus $4.99 shipping): I wanted at least one slab in my collection to know what they were like, collected Swamp Thing, and thought the price was reasonable.
