  1. Thank you, rotembk for the advice. I agree, I must put a break on any new acquisitions if the past few months of purchases are to be considered. This is a dangerous hobby that I must continue in moderation! That said, your post makes a number of assumptions. This is the piece I purchased: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1285984 It is important to me as it signifies the first appearance of the new villain Talon from Court of Owls, which is my favorite Batman story of all time. It came at a hefty price, but it is a piece that holds deep historical and sentimental value to me, and I am quite happy with the purchase. Regarding the splashes, I bluntly provided reasons as to why they are overpriced, borrowing the sentiments of numerous people here. That is when I was told they were non-negotiable, as 11 of the 20 pages they selected to sell sold at asking the first day of NYCC. I did not argue the price of the piece I purchased as I considered the price to be fair, given the first appearance. EDIT: In response to your edit – after reading the sticky on those new to the hobby, I am also strongly of the opinion of saving one's money to finance future purchases that would be more greatly appreciated (easier said than done.) For this reason, I will no longer purchase convention sketches or pieces I am absolutely not in love with. There's just too much out there, and there will always be another piece—there is no reason that I must have any given one of them.
  2. FYI. I've discovered a lot about Capullo pages recently. The SPLASHES are 10-15K and sequential are 2-3K. Non negotiable and payment by PayPal Friends and Family. I'll share more when I get a minute. Ended up grabbing a page as it was a key moment in Court of Owls...
  3. Website: http://www.furthurframes.com/home.htm ExpressoBeans: http://forum.expressobeans.com/viewtopic.php?t=70319&f=31 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Furthur-Frames-89382328470/?fref=ts Facebook is the most useful of the bunch. You can sift through the albums to quickly see work examples. His process for anyone not in-store is: - You ship him the artwork. Let him know any preferences you have, if any. Wait a couple or a few weeks. - He e-mails you with designs (Dell'Otto and Granov examples seen above.) Usually 2-3. I've had him do up to 8 on a couple, in terms of rounds of revisions, if I'm looking for something really specific. - You give him your feedback or choose an option. - He sends it to production. You wait a few weeks. Done. If you e-mail him, tell him Kyle sent you You're looking for Corey Hartman, the owner, who will be working with you on designs. The TMNT was $675 USD + shipping. All museum/conservation materials and museum glass. The artwork is 16x20" on thick canvas (~couple inches thick.) Now, TMNT was more expensive than usual because I had him do some technical trickery. The right of the image has an inch or two of 'empty' space (it's painted, just not much going on there) that I felt put the image slightly off-balance. So, I told him I wanted to hide this area. He had to create a special box to do this, which increased the price. For an 11x17" piece, you're looking at ~$250 - $350 USD. I typically go overboard, in that I have hand-wrapped mats (linen, satin, etc...notice the texture, not something you typically see but absolutely beautiful), fillets (the small, thin, inner 'frames' you see right outside the artwork), multiple mats, sometimes layering of mats to create depth like in the first two Batman pieces and Samnee pieces, and conservation materials + museum glass (best protecting glass and looks like it's not even there.) So, for that price you're getting the best of the best by the absolute best, with the best service. I've had 10+ pieces framed by him. The one time I had a piece framed in Canada, it took a year and they destroyed the artwork! I can't imagine going to anyone else BUT Furthur Frames now.
  4. I mean, it could definitely go either way. And if I were rich, I would buy the 50K cover. So there's probably other nuts out there like me. It'll be interesting to watch, nevertheless.
  5. The crazier the prices the more likely that whoever buys now at the asking price will be eventually burned, but as you said best of luck to anyone who decides to jump into the water. At ~30K for 50 issues worth of covers, I can't imagine it being optimal to just sit on everything. Heck, I'd pay 15K for a few covers, which is Jim Lee pricing. I can't help but believe he's just going to sit on these for decades. From an investment standpoint, it would be far more lucrative for him to sell some and invest those earnings. He's taking a huge gamble on the long-term hype and market for his run, which he is seemingly dismissing at it's peak.
  6. So...show us what you got! My CAF's in my signature, but it's also quite outdated I have a Dell'Otto cover, Adi Granov cover, and a few other large pieces from Michael Cho, Jae Lee, Chris Stevens, and a couple others coming. Once in-hand, I will post. Obviously not much compared to the members here, but I'm happy with it thus far!
  7. If you don't mind me asking: Did the people who made these offers tell you that or did the information come from or through Greg? A rep who would know told me that. Greg is very difficult to get in touch with, so I wouldn't expect to hear much from him outside of cons.
  8. Thanks, Silver Surfer and Don. Yes, he's in Colorado and then ships to Canada. He packs very well, so I find it a lot safer to do that rather than have OGs shipped from US to Canada, as customs could open it...and at that point, it's probably going to be destroyed
  9. I can answer a few of those questions: - Miki gets every third issue from 21 onward. Two issues go to Greg, one to Miki. - That said, Greg controls the prices and Miki charges what Greg tells him to. - Batman #1 has received numerous, much higher offers above my 25K, all rejected as 50K is firm. - Greg's other covers for Batman are estimated to cost 30 – 40K range. I offered 15 for some lesser known ones and was told it was way off (but this was not told to me by Greg.) - All that said, Greg is very hard to get a hold of. I've tried contacting him on CAF, Facebook, Twitter, etc. all with no response. Makes Jim Lee look cheap
  10. Definitely not my first purchase Just new to the boards and found the information here helpful, as it's reaffirmed some of my current practices and has given me new ones to adhere to.
  11. Thanks! Do you know what the cause of it is? Correct, Capullo still has it. And I've just confirmed: It's $50K FIRM.
  12. Love looking at framed art. Great stuff in here. Some of mine below. All are archivally framed (museum standards) with museum glass. Love my framer. Knows what he's doing and is meticulous about conservation and handling. Since I'm in Canada, I often have the artist/rep/seller ship directly to him (Colorado.) — I have three more pieces at the framer's currently. Here's a mockup preview of two (this is how we test different mats, frames, fillets, etc. to see what works best.) The first is Dell'Otto's variant cover to TMNT/Batman #1, and the second is Adi Granov's variant cover to Guardians of the Galaxy #1. I will post the completed frames here once I receive them in a week or two.
  13. Heh, no worries Question for you all: It appears the edges on the left and bottom are yellowed, but the artwork itself is only a few years old. What causes this and how much does it affect value? (I'm asking both in general and this piece specifically.)
  14. Thanks for letting him now believe it's worth even that much. It is to me! Arguably my favourite run in comics history. (I'm 26, gravitate towards modern stories.)
  15. Should anyone be curious – I recently offered Greg $25K USD for the Batman #1 cover. A no go!
  16. My goodness this board is amazing. Read the first 6 pages of this thread – worth reading the other 44 or is it more of the same? So helpful!
  17. Just read this entire thread – good stuff. Glad to know these prices are likely inflated...That said! If anyone has a line on who purchased the Dell'Otto cover and if they're willing to sell, I'd offer a bunch for it. One of my favourite covers ever, though was not for sale when I inquired. Cheers.
