  1. Well, there was a reason why the art went down from twice up. I guess a premium on art sales is just as good a reason as any to go back to twice up or bigger.
  2. I don't understand what you were implying, could you explain a little more ?? Thanks.
  3. To me, the ebay and PayPal business models seemed to have diverged at one point. In my mind, ebay started favoring 1 side of the transaction (re: negative feedback) and PayPal started favoring the other side (refunding without recourse). Now that they're separate companies again, I can see it being even more stressful, which is probably why ebay's default payment method is credit cards instead of PayPal.
  4. The grandson was surely unaware of his grandfather's connection and place in comics. He should have at least consulted his granduncle Sal. The original listing was a BIN $3,995 and included free shipping. At that point, he would probably be willing to meet someone in person. If I had been that buyer, I wouldn't have been "understanding". Out of curiosity, does this and recent passing of Chadwick Boseman have any affect on the Buscema/Klein page 1 splash to Avengers 58 in the 9/10/20 HA auction ?
  5. As I mentioned, when I posted a 2004 Christmas gift I made, some of my old superhero drawings are on CAF. I have ability but no talent. Here's a Christmas gift I made in 2005. I couldn't find a shadowbox that was deep enough so a friend made one for me about 5 inches deep. The glass was 11 x 14. This is diorama is formed from different houses that I drew on paper, cut out and mounted to balsa wood. The houses really are at different offsets and overlap to create some parallax. I got 3 different battery powered LED boards to light the houses in different patterns and colors. One LED board was always on, one rotated between a few LEDs, one board would blink. I soldered different colored LED bulbs to the boards. Each LED bulb had a fiber optic cable attached. Each cable had 25 fiber strands, so there was a lot of lighting to design for the houses, trees, bushes and night sky. Unfortunately, I don’t have a place to upload the .mov files I have. There was a battery powered soundbox that could record a few seconds of sound. It had a sensor that could detect movement (light/shadow) and would play back the recording. For that, I used the fiber optics “in reverse” to direct light to the sensor. I had it play a few seconds of James Taylor's version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". At the top right, there are 9 reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh. The lead reindeer had a red blinking nose. I made several pine trees and bushes. The snow effects were white acrylic paint and a very, very fine glitter (almost like ground glass). If think the sky was piece of black stiffened felt that came with some sparkles. I put doors on the shadowbox and painted it to look like a wrapped gift. With the diorama mounted in the shadowbox, it appears like there's a snow drift on the glass.
  6. Yeah, sometimes the appeal isn't so much about the story as it is the imagery. I wasn't a bidder on page 3, just watching. I can't say the shirt pattern affected the bidding but it definitely affected the watching. I respect that Curt Swan could draw Superman for 30 years or whatever but I would've bailed out well before the $5,000. Apparently, Namor's "Imperius Rex !!" is also a crowd-pleaser. I think "it's clobberin' time !!!" ranks pretty high. A great tag line would also increase the desirability of the most mediocre page.
  7. YOUR understanding is it would be a 1-of-1. But is that the understanding of the rep and artist ? And that's what the remark would indicate ?? @ESeffinga 's follow up comment puts another spin on this topic... if this isn't just about a simple HP inkjet printout on high quality paper you can get from Staples.
  8. My model is Batman a la "LA Confidential". It's OK to have lots of characters but it still works as a unit.
  9. I've always wanted to see a Batman movie that was more of a detective movie than an action movie. At one time, DC billed Batman as "the world's greatest detective". Darwyn Cooke made the point that the best thing the Big Two could do is abandon their legacy characters and start all over and create stories that would appeal to all ages. For video footage, go to youtube and search the title "The Real Reason Darwyn Cooke Wouldn't Work With Marvel Comics"
  10. An off-hand reference to the 2020 DC Implosion (vs the 1978 DC Implosion) ? There's a sad irony. The marathon sketches are supposed to benefit comic shops. And yet supposedly a key piece of the implosion is to emphasize book stores over comic shops. And digital over floppies.
  11. I can imagine Adams drawing in an "animated" style. But that example is not it. The way the blacks are filled in aren't even "Adams" looking.
  12. Taking the topic title (Great Artist, Terrible Art: Would You Buy?) literally... Does anyone believe that Neal Adams, other than his signature, had anything to do with this thing ?? C'mon, it's a CGC SS. Adams should sue. https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?id=1422595
  13. First one is by Dave Gutierrez. He inked some of Gene Colan's commissions in the 2000's. He hasn't been active on CAF in a while. https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=2357
  14. Nice cover by Nick Cardy. Although this started a run of covers where, many times, Superman was in a weak / submissive position. As someone once remarked to me, Superman was getting his butt kicked. Murphy Anderson passed away few years ago. It looks like his family has decided to part with some of his art. After Anderson was pretty much retired from drawing, he was still in the business. I think he had already started a company that did color separations. It's a 2 part story (continued in Superman 254). Kind of rare for DC. If you want a soap opera that spans multiple issues buy Marvel. Otherwise, I don't think it's a noteworthy story. I was never a big follower of the Superman / Action titles. Page 3 ($ 5,520) might be considered desirable because it has Clark Kent going into the store room, opening his shirt and changing into Superman and flying away. Nice big image. I was watching that page for that reason. It's on par with a Green Lantern "oath" page. But I stopped watching the page because that weird pattern for the shirt was distracting, too 70's looking. If it was just a plain shirt, maybe it would've sold for even more. Regarding the other pages, I have no idea. I guess people are just trying to get Swan / Anderson pages while they're available. You never know when HA will run out of them. I'm more of a Swan / Oksner fan myself.
  15. A handful of the artists reps have been mentioned in other threads. At least one of them has their own topic related to delivery times and/or communication. I'm not sure if it make sense to lump all the reps into a single thread. And just to contradict that, I'll add Catskill Comics (Scott Kress, catskillcomics.com). He had good communication with past commission requests. My latest experience was to make a request that the artist declined. I think it required a mental leap that artist didn't want to take. But I appreciate that Scott passed along my request.
  16. The last time I had e-mail contact with him was in Feb 2017 through the address on his website (hembeck.com).
  17. Looks like Butch Burcham. But he usually signs his work. Currently on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/123722055079
  18. Does this explain why some people buy those horrible drawings on ebay ?? See also:
  19. There is a very little publicized link for new gallery owners for the month. Perhaps @BuraddoRun is among them. Go to Galleries -> All Member Galleries Across from "Comic Art Galleries", you'll see 3 links: Today's CAF Anniversaries Welcome Our New Gallery Owners Premium Gallery Owners Although members can join without ever posting any art. I think it would be helpful / interesting to see gallery owners in chronological order.
  20. I don't use it but maybe... CamScanner ?? https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/458904-camscanner-app-question/
  21. Frank Cho has posted art for sale on CAF in the past. He usually says to "bother" Steve Morger ( @Steve Morger not really active on these boards). Then he usually takes it down. I don't think Steve "stocks" Frank's art, so he won't list it for sale.
  22. I will pay via PayPal using Friends/Family if I have established a relationship with the seller. One of them mentioned that too much incoming $$$ may attract PayPal's attention since it does avoid their Goods/Services fees.
  23. Do you have an opinion about using Best-Test Acid-Free Paper Cement ?? https://www.dickblick.com/products/best-test-acid-free-paper-cement/
