Sorry, but there's no accepted definition of key that has anything to do with value. Prices are determined by supply and demand. Being key is only a part of the influence on demand, and will only very rarely affect supply (like in the case of an instantly hot book that was available though a channel that allows returns of unsold product).

Not every key is Action Comics 1. Actually, none of them are, except for Action Comics 1, and most are not even close in terms of relative importance.

This thread is strange, because there are lots of affordable keys.

I don't disagree.  I was just offering how I look at it and some factors that I consider.

This whole thread is about affordable keys. It sounds like you’re saying if a book is too affordable, it’s not a key...

My interpretation of the OP’s question is more about undervaluation than affordability...but I could be wrong.

I guess, regarding my posts, it's is more about the definition of key.

I disagree. Bats 655 is an actual key.

I generally think there should be some value attached to a supposed key. If it's low priced, then people don't think overly highly of it.  I can get a graded 9.6 white for $75.  I am not saying it doesn't have potential, but I can't say it rises to key based on the first app of a pint sized snotty assassin, even if it is Bruce and Talia's kid.  It is readily available in raw for low prices.

Someone above listed Spawn #1 as a key.  I would agree but even with a movie and a 20+ year run, it is still way too available at low prices.  I can't ignore that as part of the equation.

Everyone has different Likes/Dislikes as far as Characters/Cover Art/Storyline are concerned and this would also create controversy on what determines if a book is actually a "Key" book (other than the known classics), so it is near impossible to pin it down to one or two books from each era.

Yes, that is part of the fun.

Wouldn't the first appearance of every early Spider-Man, Daredevil, F.F. villain be considered a key???

    Yes.

Anybody ever see the Seinfeld episode where Kramer tries to claim a 100 reward because he was greeted with a 'Hey' as oppossed to the stated 'Hello' . They gave him 20 bucks claiming 'Hey' is a form of 'Hello'. This is my question. Is any form of  :takeit:acceptable ? IMO, it should not. Pretty soon just saying 'T' will be okay.

I was part of a rapid fire SA sales thread last year where one of the buyers started with "take it", then to "take", then finally just "t".  The seller had to tell him either use the take ie symbol, or "take".  Everyone is trying to get an edge on a fast moving thread.

"take" seems fine, but "t" doesn't and shouldn't cut it.

I never ever get buyers taking extra things to combine shipping. NEVER. I often send an email offering a % off (15-20%) for extra purchases and no one has even taken me up on that!

I find I sell an average of 1 item a day or so when I have 50+ listings going but I price to move.

I had a pretty busy (for me) first 6 months of 2018 with a bunch of comic sales.  I was charging $6 for shipping and "I always combine shipping for multiple comic purchases" was a standard part of my listings.  I also tried the email thing, with discount, after a purchase and said I can ship a 2nd book for no additional shipping.  NEVER had any replies.  Most of my books were $5 - 20 (obo) .  It didn't make sense to me that nobody ever added another book.  Still baffles me.

I really want to agree with you but a comment about grade usually brings out the pitchfork crowd on the Boards. As I keep saying, when it comes to threadkrapping and what is allowed/not allowed, I am confused.

If that has been the history here (of which I have not been around for) then I understand how the definition should be tightly drawn.

    +1

I have been using them since 2008.

They do not ask for appraisals, you need to determine an approximate value of your collection and you determine how much you would like to insure your books for, you can change that amount at any time as your collection/budget changes.

I currently have my collection insured for $30,000.00 and the cost is $150.00 per year, I have never had to file a claim.

They do require a list of what is being insured.

I originally sent them a complete list of all books/collectibles I had and each year I send them an updated list of all books/collectibles added to the collection.

The lists of all books/collectibles is also kept by me on my computer and two separate flashdrives along with pictures of 3600 books.

Dang!  That seems like a lot of work.

I am currently having this issue and it is affecting my Ebay account in a big way since my PayPal account is linked to my Ebay account to receive payments... no way in hell will I send my driver's license photo ID, SS, or anything of that nature.

That is where I was.  It didn't feel right to me.  But after having several people here say that they had the same issue, I went ahead and did it.  The next day my account was active as well as my ebay account was also back to normal.

This is likely the case.  Unfortunately disclosure of a data breach is optionabe so they take other measures such as this.  You would be surprised by the number of attacks PayPal takes on in any given day.  It won’t take 7 days.  You’ll probably be verified in a couple of hours.

Hopefully by tuesday, although, I always expect something to go wrong.

It's part of their aml (anti money laundering ) measures. Govt agencies may query them on a person's ID when looking into suspicious transactions. It's legit. Just make sure all communication is done with PayPal ( as in official email )

    Yup, thanks.

It happened to me a few years ago. It was because the money flow reached a limit. Over the limit paypal asked me to confirm my identity.

It was legit, confirmed by a paypal supervisor

That makes me feel a little better...and I have been selling more in the last couple of years.  Hopefully the supervisor will say this also.

I believe it is so they can send tax forms and notify IRS if you sell a certain amount.  I could be wrong.

Ok, absolutely possible, but wouldn't people here have at least heard about that?  Most of you sell way more than me, and I figure you guys would have been aware of this.
