Bingo.  And that's what I was envisioning when I initially responded.  I was stuck in traffic on my last response, so didn't have time to elaborate.  A separate slab for the "slab only" option.  Probably would cost them some bucks up front to create a new mold for that purpose.  Not sure it's "worth it" to them.  Even at $5 to slab the book, by the time you have to/return shipping, you're looking at $15-20/book to slab.  A mylar and two fullbacks will run you what, $3-5?

In any case, the new slab doesn't spread like the old ones did.  And, I think, the label is inserted into the inner well now.  It's more "tamper proof" now than ever.

Ultra pro has rigid, magnetic, comic holder slabs for about $10 (probably not news here) but I have only seen them for current size books.  Seems like what you are talking about sans the cgc interaction.

  4. Spoke to Sue at ComicLink today...still no money order.  She was very nice and seemed genuinely helpful.  She gave me some insight into the process and it is more than just an amount matching thing.  She said there is usually some scanning of the items sent (envelope, invoice, etc) to be sent along with the check/m.o. amount.  She is working on it from her end and I think I will give it another week then begin the m.o. cancel process and pay by cc.

The PO Box you are mailing your check to is really a Bank Lockbox = no Clink employees are in Chicao. Definition of a Lockbox.... A lockbox is a post-office box (PO box) that is accessible by a bank. A company may set up a lockbox service with its bank for receiving customers' payments. The company's customers send their payments to the PO box. Then the bank collects and processes these payments directly and deposits them to the company's account.

So, the order number on the M.O. doesn't help because they don't see it. On the Clink side, this is what was explained to me. Clink gets a list of the deposits and they match up the deposits to the orders by dollar amounts. One time I had a problem because they read my check as  XX and 01/100 dollars or an extra penny = the wrong amount throws off their system.

I am assuming they do  what they do very well, but that seems like a flawed system. There would have to be more than just amount matching to confirm payment from a specific buyer.

Where did you mail the Money Order to, what address ? I believe it should have gone to the PO BOX in Chicago, where it would be deposited into CLink's Bank account. If you mailed it to the main address, I'm not sure what happens.

I mailed it to the po box.  I put the order number on the  money order also.  I don't think they have a step by step system, where it would show payment received and such, which would be nice.

Why would you be screwed?  If it doesn't arrive, you would just cancel the money order and get your money back from the bank or the post office, wherever you got it from.  It might take some time, but they'd run a trace, make sure it wasn't cashed and give you your money bank.  All would not be lost.

    Jim

I wasn't sure how the money order thing worked.  I have never had a problem with them.

Thanks for the replies, maybe I am just jumping the gun.  Alot of you guy spend big money on books.  I am treading lightly into the "higher value" (which is subjective to each person) comics and $350 still means something to me.  In that regard, I am a newb.

  8. I mailed a money order (regular mail,  regular envelope,  several pieces of paper)  payment for 2 slabs to CLink over a week ago.   I emailed them yesterday to try to confirm they received the payment.  They responded that they have yet to receive.   My question is - what would be my recourse?  It is certainly not CLink fault,  and I didn't have any tracking on a regular mail envelope.   If it doesn't show up,  am I screwed?  Pretty much,  right?

When it comes down to Ditko and Romita, it's not even close.

In his 41 issue run Ditko created, pretty much on his own, one of the best rogue's galleries in comics :
The Chameleon, the Vulture, the Tinkerer, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, the Lizard, Electro, the Big Man and the Enforcers, Mysterio, the Green Goblin, Kraven the Hunter, the Scorpion, Princess Python, Spencer Smythe's Robots, Crime-Master, the Molten Man, the Cat, and the Looter.  21 total in 41 issues.
Dynamic covers (IMO) that told a story and created a mood that was never duplicated in Spidey after Ditko left the book.

I love Romita, don't get me wrong, but... in Romita's first Spider-Man run consisting of 58 issues he co-created, with help from Stan (and fill-in artists Heck & Buscema) :
The Rhino, the Shocker, Kingpin, Man Mountain Marko, Silvermane, the Prowler, the Kangaroo (heh), and the Schemer.  8 total in 58 issues.
More issues, more help, less villains, and other than the Kingpin, Shocker & Rhino , they were mostly forgettable.
Nice, slick covers (with the exception of #55) but lacking in the tone that Ditko brought to the title.

...and that's just the villains. i won't list the difference in the number of supporting characters.

I gotta defend my man, Ditko (we all know he won't do it)

I won't disagree with the created part,  but I think Romita had a better feel for the action and dynamics of the Spidey art.

ALL FF needs is a great writer and artist to do an arc that lasts more than 5 issues. Throw in some Campbell variants and you have yourself a top 10 book again.

Couldn't that work for almost any sagging book?  The trick is to find the right writer and artist at the right time, telling the right story.  If that was easy, almost every book would be fighting for the top spot.
