  1. Thanks for the advice.  I only threw out the book value numbers because he asked specifically about it in a quick phone call.  I am guessing he is at least generally aware of the values, but may have even gotten some lowball's already.  Meeting with him Sunday.

  2. On a similar note - I am just starting negotiations on a small collection of supposedly 60's & 70's books.  When asked what percentage off book I would be willing spend I threw out up to 50% of book value.  My question is - where do you buyers like to be with a quality or at least semi quality collection, considering some to keep and some to hopefully flip?

As a big, lifelong fan, I hope someone eventually manages a filmic reimagining which proves that bias to be completely wrong.

Anytime I see that word, it ends up bad.  No offense.  I would prefer some type of minor tweaking that make a movie work in our era.  The Doom/Richards dynamic (if Doom is in the movie) needs to be explored an is the history of the comic.  Plan out a trilogy where Reed and Doom can be seen back in their school days, then intro him as a villain in the 3rd movie, or something like that.  That kind of hatred/envy does not happen overnight.  2c

It's always easy to decide how much money someone else should have or charge for their work.

I reread my post several times and I still can't find where I did that. But I guess it's easier to throw out a quick snipe than to express an actual thought.

  5. If a writer charges a nominal fee, I can live with it.  What else can they sell at a show, other than books?  I do like the small number for free and x amount per book after.  But an artist?  A known artist, not even a big name, will make plenty of money drawing at a show.  I do not see why they have to charge for a sig, or a picture.  Though, if they believe the sgning will interfere with the drawing, they can limit signings to certain times..  I get that everything is a money grab, but I think it is getting out of control.

And, regarding celebrity autos...don't get me started.  I have been going to Trek shows for 20 years.  Mostly recently at Creation shows.  The part that gets me is not necessarily the Trek, but the Supernatural shows.  This show has been on for 10 years and these people have made a good amount of money. The 2 leads are charging over $100 per autograph and another $100+ for photo ops!  That is Shatner/Nimoy/Patrick Stewart money, and they have a lifetime of work to show.  It is disheartening to me.

  6. I recently made a caf page of my art pages and commissions  and Meeley Man contacted me to check out his listings.  The message was cordial, not like some of his posts that I have read here.  At this time he does not have anything that I am interested in.  I guess my point is that I see his posts here as a bit of expected harshness.  He posts in a tone that is what he think we expect him to.  I also thinks he means some of what he posts in the the way he posts it, and some of it is having fun with the past back and forths. It is a bit confusing sometimes. Does any of that make any sense? :wishluck:

I miss the comic conventions I went to in the late 80s and very early 90s. Just a bunch of old guys selling old comics in a VFW hall, it was quiet and all just comics with some  pulps and other old stuff. I am sure those still exist somewhere, just nowhere near me. How any of those wizard world and comic con things are appealing to anyone I don't know.

We had a few of these near me before I had disposable income.  Not any more that I know of.  Now I am good to buy more books but the closest smaller show is Albany NY twice a year.

There doesn't seem to be any way to tell people without angering them.  I saw it a lot on pawn stars.  If any comic shop owner has found a solution pls post!!!

Ha!  Pawn Stars.  Hard to use  a staged reality show as reference.  Though I am sure most people do overvalue their "collectibles" as well as using book value instead of current sales as their level line.

Define a "straight up dealer" since I was a dealer at the show.  Do we slouch?  Not meet your expectations?

Posture is important,  yes,  but I mean a booth with mostly comics.   Even if I don't find something at your booth.   All the dealers seemed to be in generally the same area.   Within the first three rows of the main hall doors,  and less than I would have imagined.   Since I don't make it a point to go to the BIG shows,  I am probably a bit out of touch with how many comic vs non comic dealers there are.   I prefer a show like Baltimore,  which I will be going back to soon,  that is more comic centric.

Didn't know issue Spectacular Spiderman 43 had any significance.  Learn something new everyday.

Yup, and Machine Man 19 is the 1st Jason Macendale/Jack-O-Lantern . Those would be the 2 real Hobgoblins. I will pick up the Machine Man sooner or later...weird looking cover.

So this is turning into a nightmare. It takes 72 hours to get a response from this seller and the seller finally gets back to me, but mixed me up with the other person and told me he was sorry and that he refunded the price of the book and shipping. What really happened is that the seller refunded me the price of all the books I bought plus shipping. So now I have the books and the money? I sent another message to clear this up.

Score!   Actually,  now I would wait for him to contact you, and let him guide the action.   You now have nothing to lose.

I just want an "all" option again so I can open up someone's thread in it's entirety.

    +1

I'm still pretty new here, but I hate not being able to see an entire thread (up to a point).  And, I also see many fewer quality sales threads popping up. Not that I was in on too many big books anyways, but I have learned a lot just by watching and reading.
