Hope this finds you all well. Just getting myself back to my former collecting strength. Had a travesty, and lost my collection due to flooding in Hampton, VA.

You're assuming someone turns in the original certificate.
I was talking about recognizing a stolen book from memory.
So I agree it is possible if they have a way of tracking something like this internally but not likely.
Yeah, I thought that's what the OP was requesting.
We're on the same page regarding the book being resubmitted without the original cert, that would be a Sisyphean task indeed.

There's just no possible way they could try to 'keep and eye out' for one book.
Will they do it? No. But I wouldn't agree there's "no possible way they could" if they really wanted to.
I could be wrong, but I'm assuming when a book is reholdered they would input the cert number somewhere? I'm sure the number could be flagged on their system if they wanted.
Again, I'm not saying it would be practical for them to do this with all the requests they would receive, only that it's probably not impossible like you claim.

I enjoy the omnibus format, but it is tricky to read. The Epic Collections are easier, for sure.
I sold off my Alias and Tomb of Dracula Omnibi when prices were high awhile back with no regrets. I sold my Jack Kirby BA Captain America omnibus, regretted it about a year later, and bought another one. Also sold off my Eternals omnibus, on the fence about replacing it, might get the reprint if it comes out. I, too, would like to see the Captain Britain omnibus reprinted. I recently broke down and bought both Uncanny X-Men omnibi off eBay for a pretty good price.
Sold a bunch of EC reprints, but I'm keeping the war books.
Almost done collecting the Don Rosa Uncle Scrooge books, and I'm way behind on the Carl Barks duck reprints.
I have my eye on the Alan Moore Swamp Thing absolute edition (finally!) and the Weird Western/ Jonah Hex absolute edition, although I own the complete run in floppies already.
Do you guys sell off your floppies once you buy the reprint? I'm pretty torn on this...
We have very similar tastes! I will say that the Fanta Duck books (both Barks and Rosa) are one of the few series that I've managed to keep up with, as I always ask for that year's gift sets for xmas from my mother-in-law. So every year at the end of the year I get caught up on my Ducks, and I try to space their reading out over the year. I usually save them for the fall and beginning of winter, when it gets dark out and seasonal blues start to kick in. They are remarkable comfort reading.
I will pony up for the Moore Swampy Absolute as well, for sure. I just finished re-reading my BA Swamp Thing Omni, and am ready to continue the story. I haven't read the Moore run since my 20's, in trade form.
As for floppies, I don't really buy new ones much, so not an issue for me. I have been keeping by Batman run going for a long time, and usually just file them and read the collections when they come out. But I'm tempted to just go ahead and drop the monthly book, as they just take up space and aren't read anyway. Otherwise, my relationship with floppies is that I will likely buy the first issue or two to sample, and if I like it, I'll then wait for the collection.
The Fantagraphics Barks books are amazing! They're bound well and I love how they open nearly flat regardless of what page you're on. Makes it easy to read the panels on the inside margins. I'm not fully caught up but buy them in spurts.
This is my measly collection, about 3/4 of a shelf so far but hope to pad it out more.

I've found wearing high heels gets you to a better elevation to where glare can be avoided. I got that tip from greggy.

But there's no tape present on the book.

This error cost money so a remedy could be to offer a 9.8 book I was satisfied with.
That's not how it works. And where would they get a 9.8 book from? They don't own a repository of books to offer out if an error occurs.

Is there a CGC remedy to a mistake?
You bought it as a 9.8, so I'm assuming you paid a 9.8 price. The "remedy" would be for them to re-grade it, and it would come back much lower. Then you'd have paid a 9.8 price for an 8.0 (or whatever it is). You need to return the book to the seller.

Weird for there to be no observable consistent meaning for a grade. 10 spine ticks is a 9.8. Zero spine ticks is a 9.8. Dog chewed is a 9.8. It's my secret and no one can say what a 9.8 is!
No, this is just plain wrong. You're (incorrectly) basing this off the fact that one book in a 9.8 holder has multiple color breaking spine ticks. 99.9% of 9.8s don't.
5 minutes ago, eastcoaster said:I thought grading used written criteria to compare against. So if my meaning for a 9.8 means 1 allowed small spine tick, I would be in error if I graded a comic with 20 spine ticks a 9.8. Seems pretty sensible to me. Only if I declared 20 spine ticks still qualified as 9.8 would this make sense.
No one is saying there is no criteria for CGC's grading, only that it isn't public information.
