Hello guys,
It's been years since I sold or purchased books from the board, but it's time to let a few books from my collection go, starting with my ASM #5 CGC 7.5. I still have my kudos threads where you can see that I am a good guy Please keep in mind that I am in Sweden and I will be shipping the book from here. I will of course pack it safely and carefully. Let me know if you wonder about anything and check out my simple rules below.
Amazing Spider-Man #5 CGC 7.5 OW-W pages : Price $SOLD
Rules:
- Shipping from Sweden to Europe and the US only. Shipping will cost $20 (I cover the rest of the shipping costs) and tracking number will of course be provided.
- No buyers from the probation list or HOS, please. I would also like to see references from the board.
- First in the thread wins but PMs are welcome.
- No returns on graded books.
- Payment via PayPal. I will send an invoice and expect it to be paid within 3 days.
Thank you!

Posted this long before, but why not again after finding out that this book is on fire?
I got this from the boards exactly five years ago, and found out about the "double quotes and blue under the table" thing after purchasing it. I wonder if this was already a "thing" back then or if it came up later.

Sacrifices were made. I have no regrets. I figured it was now or never for me on this book. Detached cover, yes. Chipping, yes sir. Mine? YES! Obviously everyone has seen this copy. I’m proud to finally own the one SA book I really thought that I’d never get. The weight has been lifted.......
Congrats for acquiring what 99.9% of comic book collectors would consider the crown jewel of their collection!

In my experience, TOS #39 doesn't seem to be as common as JIM #83...
JM #83: 1524 universal copies Vs TOS #39: 1750. So not a big difference really.
Speaking of "common books", I remember when I started collecting CGC books in 2016 when somebody here advised me not to bother with X-Men #1 unless its a CGC 9.2 or better, since it is such a common book. I only got a 7.5 then despite that advice, but boy do I wish now I had believed him. A CGC 9.2 then was going for around $50K...

Lovely books and even more lovely stories behind them. I could almost smell the adrenaline from that ASM1 auction story! Congrats, its one huge addition and a very beautiful book
I find group photos so much more exciting than usual scans. Can we keep them coming please? Here is a Mysterio themed one!

After owning one I stupidly sold it for what seemed like a huge profit at the time but, alas, it is becoming increasingly further from my grasp as the days move on. I may settle for a nice looking restored book in the future.
I went through something similar to you for a number of years, actually. It wasn't until the last six months that I once again had a focus and discipline to hunt for a run or specific comic. I've noticed that I prefer the thrill of the hunt rather than the trophy in the end. Being an undisciplined collector brought me little joy - more of spontaneous buys rather than a methodical approach to collecting. I would categorize it as impulse buys. Bottom line, don't lose the drive - each book contains a story and has a story, so keep making stories.
I am really really happy to have it. That AF15 was actually the first graded book ever I bought for my collection and getting it here in Sweden involved having a contact of mine driving from Michigan to Graham Crackers Comics in Chicago in order to pay cash, get it, drive back to Michigan and send it to me to Sweden. No, they wouldn't trust me enough to let me pay by PayPal and send it to Sweden or even send it to my guy in Michigan. I later got even my ASM1 from them, but by that time they "knew me" so they did actually accept to post it to "my guy" lol. Who said that collecting these books from Europe is easy?
The #129 is the first and only book I had graded by myself and I totally randomly found it raw in a one-year-old post in a local group on FB. #50 was a birthday gift from my wife and daughters. The #15 was from Canada, but once again no-no shipping to Sweden, so @DST was recruited to receive it for me (thanks again Dave!) and send it over. My JIM83 and TTA27 were picked up from @blazingbob at a comic con in London where I travelled alone and kids-free for once just for a weekend and a couple others from my visit to Metropolis office in NY where I even took a selfie with the AC1 CGC 8.5 they were selling back then in 2018 (the same one I think that recently sold for $3M!).
So yes, I agree! Too many stories in there to let me part with them I may just need to get a bit undisciplined in order to find my way back to the collecting light again.

After selling off a good portion of my ASM 1-100 a few years ago to purchase Marvel Comics 1, I am once again putting the run back together, but this time I'm doing 1-200. I've got about 42 left in the top 100 and about 60 between 101-200 so about 102 books left. The ones over 100 shouldn't be too much of a concern, although I've never owned a 129 yet (I do have a reprint, but that doesn't count for the run), but there are lots of keys between 1-50. I am only missing about half of those and I recently picked up my #1, so it's all down hill from now on. The quest is on!
Good luck with the coolest quest of all!
For my part, I am on the other side and it feels like I am going through a collecting identity crisis lol. I had been working with my 1-400 run for a few years, took a break after I got most of the bigger keys (minus #101 and #300) plus almost all 100-400, and kinda lost my motivation. I came back a few months ago, decided to continue working with it but the spark isn't there unfortunately. I don't feel passionated enough to hunt (and pay current prices) for (otherwise awesome) books like #7, #11 and honestly the majority of the higher valued books I am missing.
I decided to take the step and have sold my 301-400 run and I still don't know how I feel about it. My thought is to continue selling most of my 150-300 books except the bigger keys that I have graded and grab a #101 and #300, as well as a couple of non-spidey bigger keys that I always thought I would grab "later. Unfortunately IH #181 being one of them.
However the case, I am so happy I have these and a few others that I am probably never ever letting them go!

Really beautiful book Alex, congrats!
I remember me hunting for my 7.5 copy for a long, long time. They are not very easy to find in higher grades.

Being outside of the US and basically only able to buy books on-line this is a big issue for me. Thats why I buy only CGC books for high $ SA books - I would just not feel comfortable spending four or five figures for books without some form of widely accepted 3rd party review / opinion. With that said, I have through the years bought raw 3-figures SA books from Metropolis / CC and a couple of others reputable sellers and never had an issue. I would probably never do it however through a random eBay seller.
With that said, I once bought a raw ASM 129 from a local FB group, that turned out to be my keeper CGC 9.2 copy, but it felt right at the moment and the price was too good to pass, but not too good to be true, so maybe I should do it more often

Holy fiddlers
Have you considered getting it cleaned and pressed? Or are you gonna leave it in the Ole slaberino?
I decided short after I got it to leave it as is. The hassle (and stress) that I would go through to get this done while living in Europe is just not worth any potential pump, plus the fact that o-o-old slabs have a different kind of charm

I am pretty sure I posted my ticket to the club some years ago, but I am really happy that I still own it. I hadn't checked GPA on this for a couple of years and boy was I surprised to see that out of the sudden its probably the most valuable book in my little collection.
I got this book in 2016 and considered then that it was really undervalued. Kinda bummed that I waited to get X-Men #4 "sometime later"...

I think I bought my latest Spidey a year ago and it was my ASM 15! After acquiring the majority of the big Marvel SA keys and Spidey keys I felt that my motivation dropped and I needed some time to reflect over the direction of my collecting. I was then to the point where I owned 344 out of the 400 first Amazing Spider-man issues. I have missed the hunting though, and even my wife has been asking me if I am not taking my collecting up any time again soon lol.
So I took everything out today, refreshed my memory about where I was and started making a mission plan! :-) I am going to continue where I was with the first goal being to complete the first 10 issues (I still need 7, 8 and 10) and then the rest of the first 20 (I need 11, 12, 16-19). And then take it from there! #7 in CGC 7.5-8.0 is my direct next goal.
Here is a photo with the earliest Spideys as of today! :-)
