Oh, boy ... my grades were a bit low Round One, and I WAY over corrected for this round. I saw the stain on the Four Color but dismissed it. I see stains like that all the time on Disney books; thought it was a production thing. Same with the light scuff marks on the Spawn, gave it a 9.6. And I can never see foxing on pictures, unless it is very bad foxing. Did anyone else see that? A humongous 12 points this round. Ug. @kav's strategy of "don't over think it" did NOT work for me, lol. This happened to me, too. You have to make sure you are logged in ... it LOOKS like you are, even when it's timed out. What I do is click on "log out" and then log back in. THEN I can post again, and message, etc.

Well, it looks great. I'd swear that was Sean Knight from Mage in the background, though. The glasses are spot-on.

Um, maybe try again? With a little more grammar? I'm so sorry your books were stolen. That totally sucks. But it sounds hopeful, that you've tracked them down! Please update as to how it resolves. Fingers crossed for ya!!

I'm shocked they are doing this. It is a massive conflict of interest, and for not very much money. It will probably be fine, but CGC should be careful ... they can take only so many hits to their reputation. It took YEARS to get past the persistent rumors of high-end grade selling. And their fall in consistency the last couple years is already hurting them. They must be under a lot of pressure from Blackstone to keep jacking up profits.

Oh, wow ... I submitted my grades yesterday, but they vanished. I guess my login had timed out. (That happens often on the forum, but it always surprised me.) I didn't even notice until now. Anyway, grades submitted, for reals this time.

LOL .... it's funny, because you are whining about other people "whining." No wonder you find that annoying! Um ... yeah, that's not how grading works. You don't just count up defects and total the points to get a grade. You look at the book holistically, and then use defects (or virtues) to refine the overall grade of the book. Defects have a level, though, and don't let a grade go past that level. If the defect is singular, as you suggest, then the book could get a green label, with a grade for the book as if that defect did not exist. Or, it could get a blue label, but at the level defined by the singular defect. I've heard there are software programs that add up a list of defects and arrive at a number. But that's not how professional grading works. Nor should it be!

No bullseyes, but I'm happy I was close with all of them for my first contest. Seven points. (Real grades in parentheses.) Adventure Comics #37 .... 1.8 (1.5) ... 1 pt. The quarterly PRIME Auction is here and it is a doozy! Spread across five days this week we have a LOT of great books ... 32 total! Including some FANTASTIC Signature Series that I'll highlight in a separate post. How about some CGC 9.8 Copper Age books? We got 'em! There is a BEAUTIFUL copy of Amazing Spider-Man #252 CGC 9.8 White pages available, plus two versions of Annual #21 (Spidey gets married!) also in 9.8. Plus CGC 9.2 copies of ASM #194, the first Felicia Hardy The Black Cat, and All Star Comics #58, the first Power Girl. Both of these were epically undergraded, especially the All Star Comics, which is happening more and more lately with all those new graders. But see for yourself! It could absolutely be a 9.8 with those two (very small) flaws. Don't undercut yourself, is my advice. 9.8's can have 1-2 allowable flaws in the grade, or "an accumulation of smaller defects." This is from Overstreet, but CGC is similar. 10.0's are perfect; 9.8's are not. A lot of people forget that. Good luck!
