  1. I enjoyed LEGOs as a kid but I really hadn't given them a thought until my son was born 8 years ago. He is pretty creative and loves LEGOs. I like that they are something we can do together. And the sets they have today are really impressive. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Hobbit sets track the storyline. I traded comics for some used LEGO sets with a boardie a while back.
  2. OK, who won this baby earlier this morning? It wasn't me.
  3. The post is about the actual comic Rai 1, not the blank cover variant that I happen to be holding in my photo.
  4. What is the only thing better than a Clayton Crain acrylic cover? A free Clayton Crain acrylic cover! Clayton is running a contest on his Official Clayton Crain Facebook Page where he is giving away a free acrylic painted cover at random to someone for "posting a picture or message about your Rai issue #1 by 5/15/14 at 10:00AM" I bought my issue today and posted a picture.
  5. I would like to challenge with this Clayton Crain owned by me. Can I get a second? Here is a thumbnail link to a scan of the graded book.
  6. Clayton Crain will be signing at Emerald City but he won't have his own booth and won't be doing sketches. You can arrange to have commissions picked up at the show. Several facilitators are going to be there.
  7. What a great idea. I love seeing other great books and this is another way for me to get a weekly fix. Is there some way to see which covers have already been recognized? I already have all of my best sketch covers uploaded.
  8. I am working on a SS run of Sam Kieth Marvel Comics Presents. So far 11 books are the first and only 9.8 SS copies.
  9. We were talking about his favorite covers several months ago and we both mentioned Sensational Spider-Man 32. I told him I would love a commission of that cover. He remembered and did it for my birthday. He wanted it to be special and he also remembered he had a leftover HERO blank from when he participated in that project so he dug it put and used it. I could not be happier.
  10. I saw Crain on Friday. He said, "I want to show you something. I think it is the best thing I've ever painted." I said, "That's a pretty big claim coming from you." Then he showed me this.
  11. This. When I see "He needs to go on the PL because he hasn't responded to my PM in 72 hours." That is freaking ridiculous. And I am someone who has full sympathy for those who are feeling frustrated. The 72 hours isn't the sum total of his delays and non-responses. It's the culmination of months and months of problems. The 72 hours was the time from the PM informing him of the PL discussion and giving him the mandated time to respond to the allegations and issues before a decision is made. Chris, You are a long-time Boardie and I understand your point and I respect you but at the risk of advocating reason to the pitch-fork wielding mob, I respectfully disagree. Perhaps my beliefs are no longer the social norm but I don't expect somebody to check their emails every 72 hours. I can understand somebody who has only been on the boards a year not fully understanding the context of the probation list and the Hall of Shame. This is where we put the crooks, not the guys who don't meet our expectations for communication or customer service. That is what the feedback forums are for. The idea that this went to a HOS vote is ridiculous and represents the worst of these boards in my opinion. That isn't a shot at you Chris.
  12. This. When I see "He needs to go on the PL because he hasn't responded to my PM in 72 hours." That is freaking ridiculous. And I am someone who has full sympathy for those who are feeling frustrated. The HOS is for the worst of the worst.
  13. I saw Crain on Friday and got scans of some books he has recently finished. The tip of the cigar and the Punisher logo on the shirt are done with glow-in-the-dark paint. This cover has glow-in-the-dark paint.
  14. Crain has done Boston a couple times I think. He keeps his web page up to date with his appearances. Rose City was a great experience. I helped Crain out at his table a bit so I got watch him paint the Daredevil, the Hulk and Brentio's masterpiece. He loves to talk with his fans and is a really nice guy in person. He said that he believes he is improving as a painter. His colors on some of these latest pieces really seem to blow up and he explained some of the techniques he used. It was all way over my head but I was struck by his genuine desire to improve and by his attention to minute details. He talked about how he recently did some work with live models and that really inspired him. He also said he frequently remembers pieces that he has done in the past and how he would improve on them if he was doing them today. One of the things that struck me at Rose City seeing all 8 of these painted books laid out together at Jake's table was how everybody who saw them seemed to have a different favorite.
  15. His prices for works at shows differ depending on whether he is painting with acrylics or using copics and the complexity of the piece. His commission prices also vary but I don't know if he is taking any commissions right now. I know he lined up one or two books at Rose City to be delivered at Emerald City ComiCon next March. He is headed to SoCal Con and Joel Elad has a thread in the Comic Events forum about trying to arrange some commissions at that show.
