  1. Awesome book. Was gonna try for a Crain sketch at Heroes. Is he not easy to deal with? He is a really nice guy. Marvel kept him too busy to do much commission work but he's doing some now.
  2. I saw your nice post and Sean's when I discovered this thread. Thank you.
  3. Jason's Ghost Rider by Tex is a worthy winner but if I can nominate my own sketch then I will.
  4. I will never forget the first time that I read these two comics.
  5. What a great idea for a thread, Barton. Work has been crazy lately so I just discovered it. Like you, I remember heading to the store for new comics as a kid in the 70s; Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Men, Defenders, Thor, Captain America, Marvel Team-Up, Iron Man...he did them all. I loved his Spideys as a kid and I love his Thors as an adult but my favorite cover of his is this one.
  6. I'm picking up a new commission at Emerald City too. Post 'em here when you get them.
  7. Thank you for sharing these great books.
  8. I met Clayton at Emerald City ComiCon several years ago when they were auctioning off his amazing cover for the HERO 100 Ultimate Spider-Man project. I have had the great fortune to get a number of commissions from him over the years (see below). My books aren't for sale but now you have a chance to get a Crain masterpiece too. I spoke with Clayton the other day and he is going to do commissions for a while. Here is the link to his website where you can order yours. Clayton Crain commissions! I am not getting anything for promoting Clayton. I'm doing it as a favor to all you guys that have been bugging me for years to sell you one of my books. You can do me a favor though and tell him you heard about this opportunity from Steve Nelsen.
  9. Great news! I spoke to Clayton Crain personally yesterday and he told me that he will be at Emerald City later this month. He got his own booth as an exhibitor and is listed on the site but not as a guest. The even greater news (it's a joke grammar police) is that he will be doing commissions.
  10. Is that the one Watson sent me this text on? "Oh . Just dropped WBC's book. I dusted it off and subbed it anyway. He'll never know." Yes, that's the one. Although the real reason it didn't get a 9.8 is "Pickle juice fingerprints on front and back cover." If you watched Flee's con report you'll understand.
  11. Welcome back! Not much new. I did send my Wolverine 35 newsstand off to get pressed and graded on-site at Megacon in a week.
  12. My understanding is that it was due to a number of factors, including a revision of their PQ criteria and a change in the way the grading room was illuminated. Board revolt was not one of the factors I've heard It was earlier than 2005. It was when they moved to Florida. And it was because of better facilities/illumination for judging PQ more accurately.
  13. I personally believe a 9.8 copy of Wolverine 35 will turn up. But this isn't as simple as CGC submission stats as you might think Supa. I was the first one to get a 9.8 copy from CGC on thirty-nine different issues in the Wolverine 1988 run. Those were examples of low submissions. All of them have multiple 9.8 copies on the census now. Wolverine 35 is very different. I have been looking for this book very diligently for over 5 years and reviewed literally hundreds of copies - maybe a thousand. I have never seen a direct edition without the bindery tears. I have reviewed newsstand editions and they also have the tears in almost every case. However, I have seen at least one without the tears and I have been told by someone whose opinion I trust that they saw another. Both of those books had other flaws such as creases and cover wear which made 9.8 impossible. In this case, I think the low number of submissions is a consequence of people realizing that that their copies are not 9.8 or books and not submitting them and probably also some copies failing a 9.8 pre-screen. I am in the process of submitting my finest newsstand copy and I am not confident it will get 9.8. But I do believe that if even only a small fraction of the newsstand copies were bound without tearing, then eventually a 9.8 will come to market.
  14. Maybe Spill it I was going through some old boxes of books last weekend to put together my Christmas raffle box and I found a newsstand copy with no spine stress that I remembered seeing but forgot that I bought it. I originally thought it wasn't 9.8 but after looking at it again closely, I think it is if I get it pressed. It is the nicest copy I've ever seen and is definitely nicer than my CGC 9.6 so I am going to send it to joeypost and see what happens. I also found my gold copy of X-Men 297 which is in similar condition so it is going to Joey too. Send them with my ASX 32 and I will hand deliver them to Orlando on February the 16th. If there is one person that I would trust with my grail books, it's you. I'll send them your way (thumbs u

  17. That's a shame. Your attitude towards other collectors is immature and unprofessional.
  18. It has been my experience that the demand for CGC 9.6 examples of common copper/modern books that are tough in grade is not very strong. The demand from registry members is primarily for 9.8. Tougher variants sometimes sell for decent money in 9.6.
  19. He's not on the site yet. Given the recent problems with guests appearing and disappearing from our friends at Wizard World I'm going to leave him off until it's official. He's on the site. He's listed as an exhibitor instead of a guest. he usually buys a table since he is local.
  20. I can't believe the mods still haven't locked this thread. It's like one of those secret rooms in a game that only the real nerds insiders know about.
