  1. Set: Superman One Shots Book: Superman Special Edition #nn Certification Number: 1301917004
  2. This question should be easy to put to rest. Let's see. when was More Fun 76 printed? The 1940's right? So that means that GA wins. You guys made this too complicated.
  3. I have owned at least a thousand GA books at one time or another and tried to read them all. In most cases it was not possible to finish even one story per book. There are exceptions of course: EC, Disney, Classics Illustrated (many were surprisingly well done), Captain Marvel (easily the best drawn and written of the GA majors).
  4. It never occurred to me. I have a lot to learn.
  5. There are a lot of ideas on the internet about this as relates mostly to books but it would apply to comics also. I bought a beautiful GA book off of Ebay a while back that had a very strong smell. I tried baking soda, crumpled up newspaper, fans, hand-wiping, dryer sheets and a few concoctions of my own. Nothing did nothing until I put a sheet of microchamber paper between every page (microchamber paper is very thin) and sealed it in a large plastic bag for two weeks. Afterward, no smell. It make work in a shorter time than 2 weeks and it may work without sealing in a bag but I did not have another smelly book so I did not experiment. The paper is available on the web from Conservation Resources International (conservationresources.com). Good luck.
  6. When Ron was at the Phoenix Con last year the lines where forever. Those Chicago fans got no class.
  7. I don't think it counts when an artist swipes himself. On the other hand they are both cool and the Spawn is funny (227th Anniversary issue? Why didn't he just wait 4 months and do the standard 231st Anniversary?)
  8. Damn, I forgot about this one. Kane and Adams are an impressive pair. Right now I'm only ahead in obscurity points.
  9. Great 50's DCs and other stuff. I started a new topic about cover art swipes based on the Unusual tales and Bob Swift so please check that out too. Also notice how CGC put the Large Feature #7 in the holder backwards. Everyone makes mistakes.
  10. Do You Know of Any Great Comic Cover Swipes I got these back from CGC today. I asked CGC to note on the label for Unusual Tales #6 that the art had been "swiped" from Bob Swift #5. I do not know if they have ever done this before or if they would have done it in this case if I hadn't submitted the books together. Anyway, they did note on the label "Bob Swift #5 cover homage" which shows that CGC is a lot more diplomatic the I am. I am sure that Magnificent Norm Saunders would not have objected to his cover being redrawn by Inimitable Steve Ditko. Can anyone beat this? If you don't have pictures just give us the issue numbers: we can look them up.
  11. In the late 1950s my Grandfather was in a hospital with terminal cancer. In those days kids were not allowed beyond the waiting room on the first floor so my older brother and I spent a lot of time doing nothing but trying, mostly unsuccessfully, to behave. We sometimes got change from relatives to distract us in the gift shop. That is where we both bought our first comic: we each got the same issue of Turok, Son of Stone. I could not read it but I studied the pictures like they were Rembrandt. The first book I read was my cousins copy of Fantastic Four #2. The first book I fell in love with was an Action or Superman that had Mr. Mxyztplk on the cover, underwater, where he had turned a submarine into a bright yellow banana. The horror of that image will be with me forever.
  12. Set: Superman One-Shots Book: With Superman at the Gilbert Hall of Science#nn (1212427012) Set: Superman One-Shots Book: Adventures of Superman #nn (1212435013) Set: Superman-Tim Book: Superman-Tim #nn (DC Comics, 9/49 (1217855012) Please also note that this comic is improperly recorded in the Census: the date (1949) was omitted so this issue is the first listed rather than being one of the last listed as it should.
  13. Could you please add "Hello Pal" by Harvey comics?
  14. These came in today. I am obviously revealing myself as a hardcore Ditko fan. I bought most of these back in the late 1970s and early 1980s as NM/M copies. Grading has changed a lot since then. Still, these Ditko books are gorgeous.
  15. Captain Atom, Charlton set Strange Suspense Stories #75, 76 and 77 should be added to this set because: 1) All 3 issues are 100% Capt. Atom covers and content, 2) The covers show the "Captain Atom" title in very large print while the "Strange Suspense Stories" title is small, 3) These 3 issues are reprints of Capt. Atom content from earlier "Space Adventure" comics to introduce the new content beginning in Captain Atom 78. 4) With issue 78 the title is officially changed to "Captain Atom".
  16. Please add "Superman's Buddy". There are only 2 issues but I have the best of both so this would be like padding my resume. Whatever you decide, Thank You.
  17. I would like Superman-Tim. One certification number is 1212427014.
  18. How is it posible that I got through 10 pages on this topic and no one has said "DITKO" yet? Like any of the more prolific artists of the 1950s and 1960s he had plenty of substandard work so please save that person_without_enough_empathy for another party. This is the story of Ditko: his highs were the highest, his best has remained unsurpassed.
  19. I'd like to request a new registry set: Supermam-Tim. Thank you.
