  1. That's interesting to me. So, OSPG (I know they are not the final authority, but they have detailed descriptions written down) says major chunks can be missing from the cover or multiple pages/pieces gone that impact the story. I know all tastes are different, but a complete spine split is way less offensive to me than major chunks missing or story impacting pieces/pages gone. Thanks for the input. I love the different points of view.
  2. Seems fair at first to me too. I guess what I really struggle with is the 0.5 for books that have missing pieces/pages/back cover. I would 100x rather have a book with a complete spine split that someone Frankensteined together with scotch tape than a book with a missing page.
  3. I should have noted, that I am more thinking about this philosophically than I am for this particular book. This book just got me thinking.
  4. How to grade a complete spine split I need some help here. I received a book bought on eBay that has a complete spine split repaired by tape. The tape was noted in the listing and present in the pics, but the fact that it was covering a complete spine split was not noted. The seller is willing to refund 100%, so I am not worried there. This brought up a question. How would this be graded? OSPG says "spine split can extend up to 2/3 the length of the book" for 1.0 Fair, and "a complete book length spine split" is noted under 0.5 Poor. This particular book would be at least a 3.0 without the split. All pages intact and attached, no pieces missing of any size, and no real major creases or tears, not brittle, good colors. Might even get to 4.0 but so much hinges upon what the spine would look like without the split (and the fact that there is tape the length of the spine). Thoughts on how best to treat a complete spine split? I just don't see it dropping this book as far as clipped coupons or missing pages (like OSPG's 0.5 Poor description). Thanks.
  5. Amazing Spider-Man #204 from 1980. Black Cat appearance. Nice book. Sold to me as 8.0. I would probably call it 7.5 but only for the ding on the bottom right front corner. Non-color breaking. Great spine, with only a couple ticks. Not the best centering, but ok. Solid book. $6 shipped
  6. Amazing Spider-Man #74 from 1969. Nice tight flat book, with all pages and cover fully attached. General spine wear, 1" tear in price box, some tanning around the edges of the back cover, nice pages. I call if 4.0. $14 shipped
  7. Amazing Spider-Man #67 from 1968. Water damage to this guy...please note in pics the stains and waviness. Obviously, in the bag this one looks a lot better. Pages still ok, and all there. Some color issues to bottom right front cover, and tanning to the back. All secondary to the water damage. No rust, but a tiny touch of discoloration inside at the bottom staple. Tight spine, and fully attached. Mysterio appearance, which makes up for all that. 2.0? Would be much higher without the water damage (duh). The rest of the book is really nice. $7 shipped
  8. Amazing Spider-Man #57 from 1967. A bit of spine roll, some general spine wear, light creasing bottom right front cover, damage top back cover (and several pages in from the back), nice pages on the inside, all pages accounted for. Ka-Zar appearance. I call this one 4.0. $15 shipped
  9. I was going to stop there, but, due to the smashing success here ( ) I have a few more undercopies that need a new home. A few Spideys, some Batman, and a JLA (about half silver and half bronze). Will try and get to these soon.
  10. Whiz Comics #32 from 1942. This one DOESN'T have the brittleness/tanning issues of most of the previous books. Spine roll, "P" written in pencil in the "W" on the cover, damage to the lower spine (see pic), reference to Hitler and Mussolini on the cover and satire on the inside, 64 pages, centerfold loose at top staple, cover fully attached, some light staining to cover (see "Z" in Whiz). Really solid book. I would call this a 3.5 or 4.0 depending on how you knock that spine damage. 1st appearance The Trolls. $65 $58 shipped
  11. Western Fighters Vol. 3 No. 4 (1951). Cool book with a great buffalo cover. Same tanning/brittleness issues. Stain front cover, dust shadow, chipping, good cover gloss, again only 12 wraps by my count. $6 shipped.
  12. Walt Disney's Comics & Stories #1`12 (Vol 10 #4). This one is labeled as a drug issue in OSPG. I only count 12 wraps on this one (48 pages), but the cover says 52 pages. Browning/brittle like several previous books. Tightly attached, some soiling, some chipping (esp on back), a couple pieces missing from interior pages that only affect the margins. $6 shipped.
  13. Happy to hear offers on any of these (especially if you are buying several).
  14. Still a few more...will try and get them up by tomorrow.
  15. Walt Disney's Comics & Stories #14 (Vol. 2 #2) from 1941. VERY ROUGH. Cover detached, back cover missing, part of the cover detached from the rest (see pic) 64 pages there, but various damage, some writing intermittently including on cover (but I didn't notice any defacing the story), writing in ink on last page. I will take $28 shipped OBO on this one.
  16. Spy Hunters #9 from 1950. Badly aging cover paper, tanning pages, spine split at top and bottom but still attached at both staples, prominent dust shadow both front and back, chipping. Just like The Kilroys issue there are only 12 wraps so 48 pages. I am not sure what is missing as it looks like the story just progresses. Any help here is appreciated as I am out of my normal waters. Pretty fragile feeling paper, but a very cool book nonetheless. $8 shipped
  17. The Kilroys #29 from 1951. Lays flat and tight, but cover is browning badly. Pages tanning too, chips and the like on the cover, a scratch of some kind running from the "K" in Kilroys down through his right shoulder, cover feels a bit fragile, only 48 pages so missing centerfold (?; no issues with page numbers). $4 shipped
  18. Joe Palooka Comics #32 from 1949. All 48 pages present and attached, but browning/tanning along with the cover. Some cover chipping and creasing, more spine stress on this one, cover attached, but lost some color on the bottom front. Maybe as high as 3.0. $8 shipped Take both Joe Palookas for $13 shipped.
  19. Joe Palooka Comics #27 from 1948. Similar condition in the 2.0 range. Loose centerfold but all 48 pages accounted for, some cover chipping, cover firmly attached, fading/soiling, browning/tanning, someone did their math homework on the back cover in pencil (wasn't me), cool Stan Musial add on page one. $7 shipped
  20. Gene Autry Comics #17 from 1948. 2.0 or maybe 2.5. Chipping along edges, name written on cover in pencil, browning cover, and tanning pages, a couple small spine splits, cool photos on front and back covers, all 32 pages there. $6 shipped
