  1. via PM! Weird Tales April 1924 goes to Comcav! Thank YOU, old friend! Pleasure to do business with you again, as well.
  2. SOLD via PM! Weird Tales April, 1924 — just turned 100 years old! Classic Houdini seance cover, with stories by H.P. Lovecraft and Harry Houdini (most likely ghostwritten for his byline). Bookery’s Guide to Pulps lists as scarce to rare, but there’s a few sales in Heritage archives. A copy described as Good+ sold there in April for $1,800. That one had a detached cover and tape residue on the cover, as well as a similar lower left corner as mine. This copy is also in the lower grade ranges but cover is attached, and the spine is nice. There is a tear in the front cover (see pix) and a similar lower left corner flaw (chew?). I think it presents more nicely and has less general wear to its appearance (compare pix) but page edges are slightly chippy. The edges do flake a bit, but it is readable with care and otherwise supple to handle — an amazing centenarian! $2,000 shipped within U.S.
  3. 5 Simple Rules (Please, please read) 1st wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread. Payment is Check or Money Order (yeah, yeah I know I'm a dinosaur, troglodyte, luddite, mennonite, hermaphrodite etc. - I just don't have or want e-payments.) Shipping: USPS Priority Box shipping included. Slight adjustment based on actual cost for shipping to Canada. Don't be listy including the little one in my head. Returns: Sure, just notify me within three days of receipt and get it back to me in the same shape on your dime. (Kudos thread linked under my avatar.)
  4. Presents nicely for what it is graded at, but I do not see the grade going up as the list of technical flaws is long. I’d think lower, if anything.
  5. This. That crease is long but subtle, and there’s the GA bump. And it’s a heckuva tough book to find at all.
  6. Coming soon to the new Pulps Sales Thread over in the Pulp Magazines section, fresh off its 100th birthday…
  7. That may be the case. Some displayed their hand-done boards but would not sell.
  8. Before we all declare the hobby dead in two years, let’s ask ourselves if the results might look different in a poll conducted on Instagram. Don’t get me wrong, I suspect the bulk of comics collectors are north of 40 but I don’t think the overall skew is as bad as it looks on a chat board, which is long-form, old-school social media. I attended an independent artists’ comic con this past weekend, and the place was packed with young people looking for new content and meeting creators. I doubt there was much appetite for back issues in that room, but there were new fans of the medium. I think it’s incumbent on dealers and LCS owners to pass down the history of the medium, and I think it’s reasonable to assume that if the new generation of comics readers becomes back issue collectors they may have a greater appetite/appreciation for genre titles moreso than the longjohns fare many of us grew up with. My biggest disappointment in the show was in not seeing any OA for sale from new creators. That’s what I went looking for: OA from up and coming creators.
  9. It’s the OA. I was going to start it there, but I figured the likelihood of it getting identified was over here in Golden, based on its era. I thought it was more likely someone had seen the printed illustration than the piece itself.

  11. @IngelsFan and all sleuthy contributors, you're a buncha rockstars! Thank you! Looks like the story title on the lookout tower covered the Marcus/Gordon sig (see oA in 1st post). Thank you all!!!

Middletown, NY. You near enough to go?
  13. Was thinking Korean too. Probably 1950s. Good call on splash possibility! Thanks!
  14. A friend of mine has it. All we know is what's on front: #1. Sig is "Marcus Gordon." Nothing on back.

They may not necessarily be relisting. They may have multiples. They are a massive warehouse, open to the public by appointment. I have not made one, but I’d like to out of curiosity. They are about an hour from my area, but I drive over that way for work on occasion. I saw the building one day and thought it might be a comics shop, then read the sign on the front door.
  16. Thanks! I’m pretty sure it’s actually the last issue of Devil Dog Dugan, with a title change. Inside are four Devil Dog Dugan stories. The run was already broken up when I got my first shot at these books, or I would have kept all four. Its a tough run to build in nice shape.
  17. Thread is now closed; thank you everyone! For those who would like to see my keepers from Joe Sinnott's personal copies, here they are. I kept the War run because its three consecutive high-grade, late-run issues; the Tell it to the Marines #4 because it's basically the last issue of Devil Dog Dugan; My Own romance and Quick Trigger Western for the late-career Matt Baker work, Battle Action #23 because that guy looks like the late Darren Carerra, friend and owner of the Comics Depot in Saratoga Spring, which was an awesome shop; a few classic covers and Battle Ground #1. I don't know how much more of Joe's Atlas books I'll get a chance at; hoping for some more PCH and early post-code horror, but the intermediary is keeping the sci-fi and most pre-code war. We both doubt the Marvel books leave the family, certainly not anytime soon, though maybe some bronze eventually will be parted with. Just our guess.
  18. Three books left: Page 11 - Kid Colt Outlaw #90 GVG — $50 to JimJum12’s PayPal; receive free shipping on your stack. Page 12 - Battle #27 FN- $200 Astonishing #11 VG+ $300
  19. @comicnoir Ron please note that is some sort of smudge atop the Spellbound, not a blurry pic. If you did not realize, OK to pass. I did account for it in giving it the grade.
  20. Ok Boardieland, that is everything! 47 Joe Sinnott personal copies from his Atlas days! I hope everyone has enjoyed this. I’ll keep it open a day or so and then get PM’s out to takers. Thank you to all takers, lookers, etc. I’m glad to share these, and I’m glad it gave the boards a fun hangout for the week!
  21. Astonishing #11 they have it at VGFN. I’m more VG + as cover has some light soiling. Again, not a comp book. 21 on census, line 8.5 atop. $300
  22. SOLD! Spellbound #9 in VG/VG+ Note lower right corner piece of cover missing. 11 on census. Two at 8.0. $300
