  1. This would probably be much more clear in a live discussion. I’m not saying that love must be expressed through financial means; I suggest that using one’s expertise to ease a problem for others (in this case, a financial problem) is an expression of love. And I am certainly not suggesting that you do not express your love to your family in myriad other ways; I of course have no way of knowing either way and it’s none of my business. I also don’t find bureaucracy much fun at all. I wouldn’t suggest full adjudication of your collectible assets, especially when the heirs are a competent group that is unlikely to bicker and you have no stomach for the effort. But a few brief points on paper (eg - “X,Y,Z constitute the most valuable pieces, worth your effort to sell individually, the rest you may as well get what you can most easily get for them” or somesuch) may be a minimal effort on your part that greatly diminishes their chances of getting ripped off. Do what you want, of course. It’s just a different perspective, offered on an Internet forum discussion on a topic you jumped into. There’s no reason to suggest I’m tasteless or absurd, or to use American as a pejorative.
  2. And it is an expression of love toward those you leave behind; to use your expertise that they do not share in order to leave them in better financial shape.
  3. Anyone got the covers for Wonder Woman #9?
  4. Condolences, Jim. Sorry to read about your loss. Thoughts and prayers.
  5. Awesome thread, Preach! Tied up here with brother-in-law’s 50th birthday, but I can field any questions on the backstory on the Joe Sinnott books. In a nutshell, Joe plucked them himself from the newsstand Atlas ran in the lobby of their office building in the 50’s. Contributors were allowed to do that.
  6. Coming soon ... 200-300 books....owner said he collected as a kid in the '70s and they sat since... I'm keeping the Wonder Womans and Avengers 1, and a few that are upgrades for me, but in those cases my undercopies will be subbed into the thread .... Need to photograph, grade, price but here's a sample of what's ahead. The collection is just a few gold, lots of silver and bronze. The silver is mostly mid-grade and lower grade, much of the bronze is pretty sharp.
  7. Ok, @Robot Man and I put Doc Savage #1&2 on the boards. Can we get a #3? (I can dig out a #4 if we can.)
  8. Thank you @fifties for the Underworld True Crime; the other gold may not all be keepers but I was after the Doc Savage 1 and the other two happened to be there; the James Jean portfolios sealed seemed like they should be long-gone unicorns so I adopted them too,
  9. I suppose I should add my OA page here — issue #93, page 19. Don Perlin pencils, Joe Sinnott inks. Looks much better than the printed page, frankly, as those almost-pastel colors (go back and look) really mute the artwork. You can especially see Sinnott’s influence on the Namor in the last panel.
  10. Nah, it’s a good thread. I think that’s just a couple of jokes. Legit tin foil hats would contribute with serious intent, albeit from a perspective that’s on one end of the spectrum. Loving this thread for everyone’s views and their “because” behind said views. Sometimes folks make their point through humor. That said, the more substantive commentary/explanation is of course more interesting. But either way, comments on the topic can’t help but come from one’s own macro-economic takes. Thanks for starting something thought-provoking.
