  1. SOLD via PM! Chamber of Darkness #1-8 (full set) in VG/FN condition. Barry Smith Conan tryout in #4, 1st Wrightson work at Marvel in #7. Series loaded with great artists. Take the set for $60
  2. A word about the books before we begin: I wish I could give you better provenance, but I'll tell you what little I know. It's NOT an original owner collection; that is, I did not buy these from the guy who bought every book off the racks. I bought these from a house clean-out guy that I know. He knew what he had but he's an antiques generalist and his wife wanted the sunroom back. So here we are. I've got a few keepers, a lotta read and release fun (For example, Kobra 1-7, Captain Marvel 1-18, most of the Morbius Fear run are here but won't get read in time for this go-round.) The collection is diverse, from Gold to Copper, but mostly silver and bronze. I'd guess the collector bought off the racks in the bronze age, then reactivated in late copper and added back issues, as the older stuff is in better shape and much of the bronze is not bagged and boarded. (I don't have enough bags onhand for all these, but I will effort ordering some. Given the world circumstances, I am not assuming I can get whatever I want. We'll go as far as we can, but some reader lots may be grouped together in mag bags for shipping if need be. Lots of bronze horror here; lots of DC heroes, probably a half short box of Batman and Tec alone. Strangely, I don't think I've seen a single Spidey. I've kept a handful of goodies, but I AM NOT keeping every key; far from it. I will intersperse them throughout.
  3. Payment is Check or Money Order; I do not have Paypal. First wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread. Shipping: U.S. Priority at $8 for up to 8-12 books (cardboard sangweech or flip n ship mailer in a Priority Legal Envelope) or $15 for a whole stack (Medium Flat Rate Box). Don't be listy including the little one in my head. Returns: Sure, just notify me within three days and get it back to me in the same shape on your dime. A word or two about the books in the next post, then we'll get started with a sampling. This could go on for a while. Any taker who wants out before I close it can PM me at that point to settle up, but I do not have my head around this enough yet to know what's coming when, though I will try to group things and give a general sense of what's coming before each round begins. Tonight will give you a general flavor.
  4. In fairness, we're having fun here but I like the Horwitz DD1; $1600 is more than a real DD1 fetches in 2.0. So the rarity is already priced in. I like foreign editions of U.S. keys; I have a few and add them when I can. And I do think they are generally still undervalued. Heck, I'm guessing the 1.0 is the raw beater I was underbidder on on ebay a year or so ago. I bailed around a couple hundred, I think, so it probably achieved a few hundred. I can't remember if I even looked at the final. I think the OP's book is a legit $1,600 range book with upside. But six figures plus? Not without hyperinflation.
  5. No, that second one looks like a Pop Hollinger. 90 meelion!
  6. I'm announcing an impending sale, and soliciting opinions in the process....Last Thursday, I picked up a collection, and its all over the place. Over 1,250 books from Golden Age to Copper (a smidge of each) with the majority being silver and bronze. There's also a fair amount (3 out of 10 boxes) of Treasuries, various EC reprints, various mags, etc. I can't do everything I might share here from this collection in one thread; so we're going to approach this in the only sensible fashion -- like Dominick's on Arthur Avenue in da Bronx...there is no menu, just give us an idea of what you're in the mood for today and we'll bring something from the kitchen... You want Marvel, DC, oddballs? Singles, lots/sets? Minor keys? I'm leaning towards not a complete randomness, such as my "You Might Find It" threads I do occasionally (though this collection could be one or two itself) but starting out with sets/lots with some better singles interspersed, and announcing a general theme before each "wave" begins in the thread. Any strong preferences out there? (Sorting now; will shoot some tomorrow and hopefully begin as soon as tomorrow night, but certainly within the week.)
  7. I wouldn't. Relies on tenuous ties and a smaller buying pool, I'd think.
  8. If you're for real about your post, and bought them as a collector not a flipper, AND they are all complete (BIG IF), then the crowd is being a bit too rough, though you're not retiring on it. The Doc Savage #9 looks pretty decent, and Rangers #4 is Rangers #4. Buyers aren't lined up on street corners, but there are buyers for those. The America's Greatest #3 is a personal fave, so I may be a bit biased, but its a tough enough book with 21 on the census and a great Fawcett WWII cover. You probably won't be doubling your money overnight, so I hope you're not a flipper. But you may one day get back out even plus lunch money for the week.
