  1. You're saying I gotta update the photo? I might need this one for a trade for some GA.
  2. If @greggy can have seven She-Hulk #1's, why can't I have six Iron Man #'s? ... I had a trade credit, there was nothing else
  3. Grappling with the clown to grappling with the class clown
  4. Thanks Jack! Yeah, I looked at that chew, something I normally try to avoid, but then I thought to myself, "How often do I see these, and how many us would have a take-brawl over it if it showed up in a Rick or Catrick sales thread???" So I took it!
  5. The Attack #54 (#1) may be stretching it at 1958 but where else on the boards would the lovers of 100-page Charltons be? The Ozark Ike was too sweet to leave behind, and...well...Baker.....
  6. Don't sell that TTA 59 short at minor key -- also the first mention of the Hulk getting stronger as he gets angrier IIRC, and a classic silver age slugfest with Giant-Man! GLWTS; underrated important book!
  7. I had a similar experience long ago, Steve. I interviewed Joe Sinnott for Overstreet's Comic Book Marketplace, the magazine edited by Gary M. Carter and great boardie @Pat Calhoun, and Joe requested one thing -- would I reach out to the OSPG and ask that they notate that he illustrated Dell's Life of the Beatles, as he said it was a work for which he was most proud. I sent off the letter to no avail. If an Overstreet adviser boardie reads this and can get this one thing done for Joe, it would be awesome!
  8. That makes total sense to me too -- More to my point, I'm just saying recognize the opportunity in it for you when it comes to opinion differences. I'll often take a good deal on something I do not like (sig, detached CF or cover) IF I know turning it over in a fair deal can make a collector of a different opinion happy and get me something I want as well. I don't mean to argue with you or change your mind, just saying opportunity can lie in the gaps between tastes. I'm not a Deapool fan, but I once picked up a NM98 when the deal was good, figuring it would come in handy. I used it to trade to a dealer I know for an ASM 129 because he had a customer for the 98. I wanted the 129 because I knew a collector who needed it for his run, and I used it in a trade with him for an Avengers 1, which filled a run for me. I now think of varying acceptance of defects the same way. However, like you with date stamps, I am NOT the guy who will ever pay fmv for a sig book, because I disagree with the market. But I would take a bargain and move it to someone who would love it.
  9. You're entitled to your opinion of course; don't add them to your collection. But consider for your own benefit -- the general market disagrees; you get a deal on a nice book with an unobtrusive date stamp, you sell or trade it for a healthy margin. I feel the same way you do about signatures -- how is writing not a defect/defacement? -- but I won't let it stop me from moving a signed copy to some one who appreciates it. We are a hobby of niches. Enjoy the hobby your way and don't let others make you crazy with what they do
  10. Yes, date stamps are a part of the distribution process from the early eras and are a historic footnote. While occasional poor placement can be a visual detractor on a particular copy of a book they should generally not adversely impact grade.
  11. That was a show of appreciation for yeoman's work! I'm trying to add to my measly l'il stack.....
  12. Three fingers of Lagavulin and a meatloaf sangwich, most likely
  13. Thank you; I had to adopt them even if I'm not sure if they may be read and release. I love the display of horror comics in the background on the Spellbound #2. The Real Hit is also a pretty tough book; it has a cover price but I understand it was used as a premium at bond rallies. That Shadow cover grabbed me too; lots of really good ones in that run.
