+1, completely concur. Just read it for the first time myself within the last week or two. -
Big key collecting question...Would you rather
Readcomix replied to UncleAnwar's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
I think guys are only half spot-on in that TTA 35 is underrated. But I don't lump 27 in with all the other true prototypes because it IS Hank Pym, and a few short months later his story is advanced when he creates a costume. After FF, he's the earliest example of Stan and Jack's bringing continuity Marvel-style to the world. It is about the toughest of the silver Marvel keys to find (though one can of course find at least a few of each key at any time). It's very early too in that 10-cent Marvel keys are this and FF1&2. If anything, Hank Pym in general, let alone 35, doesn't get the love he deserves. I see him as Marvel's Martian Manhunter, the key supporting hero whose thread runs through so much: Antman to Giant Man to Goliath to yellowjacket, but also the wellspring for the wasp, egghead, ultron, the vision, Bill Foster/Black Goliath, Hawkeye's stint as Goliath, Scott Lang as Antman. Just my 2 cents, but I think "prototype" sells it way short. Sorry for sidetrack, but to the OP question, I'd take FF1, despite the fact I obviously have regard for 27, and I'm an Avengers/Iron Man/Cap fan at the heart of my Marvel Fanhood. As such, I probably have more love for Avengers 1 than many who have commented already. Despite no first appearances, so what? It's the first appearance of a great, enduring Marvel concept that bigger than its parts and is at the center of the MU, so I love it just as much as the various true first apps. Just my take. -
I would also suggest a PM to @zzutak as he specializes in parts and pieces.

Wow, that's a pretty cool situation. So have been picking up pieces here and there for a few years from this collection, I'd guess? It's cool but, speaking for me, overwhelming in the sense of "What slice do I pick???" when I see an LCS land a large and nifty collection like that.
-
Please don't be sorry; that's a GREAT story and an awesome score! Congrats for reeling it in; never a foregone conclusion.

I notice you grabbed a handful of other Marvels off the same newsstand! I was bouncing between this thread, the first horror book discussion, and running an Archie sales threads at the same time, though. While we see sharp old copies get posted around here, these Marvels really do look like you there when they rolled off the presses. LCS? Obsessive OO? Generally, what was the source of the find?

Any backstory at all you're able to share, just for fun? Were you in discussions a long time with this person, etc? Very cool to bring this home; congrats again!

Convention? LCS road trip tour? Extreme flea market skills???

What is the 1st TRUE GA Comic HORROR Ever?

Spook was the title I was trying to remember but like you said @Jaymannot entirely horror. I like Jimmers' case for Classic Comics #13 Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, first edition is 1943. Mine is 3rd edition, June 1944, HRN 20, but here's a pic for those unfamiliar: Like Spook and Front Page, there's early Shadow Comics issues that probably qualify as sowing the seeds too, like the Thane cover with all the skulls that I sold to a friend... -
Thx Jimmers! I did post in gold too, but I wasn't sure who to page thx for the save!

I Hope the mods are cool with this last offering as it's on the cusp of copper, but where better around here to offer a couple pages of Archie OA? From the "Archie the Barbarian" story in Everything's Archie #113 (1984) here's the last two pages of a six-page story by Stan Goldberg. I will offer page five bat $50 and page six at $35. Art will require separate shipping for comics for safe packing and transit.

Here's another one where I'm okay if it stays. Jughead #7 in VG. If not for the foxing I'd add a plus. Bright with clean interior. Solid, supple. $100 Forget Thanos mopping the floor with the Avengers and Guardians...Miss Grundy mops the floor with Juggy and Reggie!

While this isn't an Archie per se, it is a 1943 single-staple MLJ. Some Zip collectors turn up their nose at the later issues when humor features are added, but the Archie crowd surely appreciates Ginger and Wilbur. Zip #41 in VG- condition with cover, centerfold detached. Slight chew corners of CF pages, margin only. Solid, supple. $125
