  1. Someone here once told me he is also hoarding the Bill Barnes 7's. If it goes that deep, it's probably extensive.
  2. Thanks guys! I love that date stamp! This collection is cool in that most of the books have clear, well-placed date stamps (always prominent to find, never over the action) and the OO placed his initials "M.R." In the lower right margin area of the splash pages in blue ink. Too small and not high enough grade to be a ped, but this little remainder of a collection (79 books) has provenance. And I've captured enough of the history to pass it along with anything I let go of. If you have any early Spideys or FF's with these characteristics, they may have been his as he donated them to a cystic fibrosis charity event in his 20's (gentleman is retired now.)
  3. Makes sense to me. For example, Western Publishing (Gold Key/Dell) was in Poughkeepsie, NY. I know several retirees who took comics home from the offices when the plant closed in the 1980's. It's a long time between those files being cleaned out and whatever stewardship those employees gave the books before we've seen them.
  4. Thank you, Doc! It's a satisfying thing to bring to a close after all this time. I know I have to let go of some of it, but it will be fun deciding!
  5. Just posted the full story over in Comics General in what's new in your collection, but here's the pix. After a year of discussions, I bought the remainder of an original owner's childhood collection. The provenance is a really cool thing; seeing them all together helps me appreciate what it must be like to see a large grouping from one pedigree together. Very cool, experience to work with this gentleman and transition his childhood books to a new home. Reality is I'll keep a few and likely move most, but I will find a way to pass along the provenance. Should be easy enough as clear, well-placed date stamps and initials "M.R." In blue ink in the lower right margin area of the splash pages are distinguishing features. Cool day
  6. The books in his collection are largely though not 100% characterized by clear, well-placed date stamps, and/or his initials "M.R." In blue ink in the lower right margin area of the splash pages. If you have some SA Marvel with this "M.R." Initialing, you likely have a piece of this collection too. it originates from western Connecticut.
  7. Finally! After a year of discussions, I have landed an original owner Silver Age collection. The gentleman, a retired hedge fund guy, certainly didn't need the money, so he took his time considering his sons' attachment, if any, to the books. Today, I acquired almost everything he had left from his childhood -- 79 books. He wound up keeping for his son Marvel Tales #1&2 and Sgt Fury annual #1. He also kept a handful of the Dell war title "Combat," and he could not locate his Atom #1. Here's everything else, as he brought it to our meeting at the local library. (He's from about an hour away, but he and his wife like the restaurants in our village.) As I walked in, he was showing his Daredevil #1 to a couple guys playing chess! He clearly still enjoys his memories of the characters, likes the Marvel movies, can even remember the books he donated to a cystic fibrosis fundraiser 40 years ago (ASM from #4 to the teens, FF from 12 to the 20's). I bought the last 79 today.
  8. Sign me up as of today...after a year of back and forth with a retired gentleman, I purchased his remaining original owner SA books today (79 comics) and my membership card was in there
  9. The copy reads like a Robert Crumb satire, but it's their straight-up ad....holee cow....
  10. Just realized I answered your question with early bronze Archies.....for some reason, though I have a copy, I had Betty and Me 16 placed in about 1972 in my head. Still, my answer stands as I cannot think of any other Archie silver called out for risqué dialogue, just the bronze ones I mentioned. I have to readjust my mental framework and lump this in with silver Archie keys, not bronze. Sorry!
  11. I'd ask him directly those questions that Sqeggs posted. (And speaking of Sqeggs, I love the Cosmo #6 you got in Richard's thread! )
  12. I'm not buying any GGA from a guy who is walking around his shop while genital-flogging! What else ya got???? (Well, you encouraged thread-crapping, Richard!)
  13. I read on a blog once (while researching my Vic Torry, sold to me as a Church by a Midwest dealer who has been around a long time) that Edgar had some doubles in his collection, though not many. I would not rule it out just because it's not 9.4-ish without coding nomenclature in the upper left, especially a post-1950 book. But there's others here who can offer way more insight; I'm just peeking into the rabbit hole like you, Rick, just maybe a month or so earlier, so I did some poking. I guess that Sunny is late 40's, but I think it's still something to be open to.
