  1. I find it hard to look at. It's chaotic and unfocused. Looking too long makes me want to vomit; it's like one of those urban legend Japanese films you hear about every so often.
  2. Too late for this and Torchy, but thank you for including those links. Never knew that; fascinating! Even before this connection, this is a desirable Tim Holt issue. I only just discovered it for myself recently when I found a different cool issue and looked at the other covers in Gerber. GLWTS!
  3. I'd say drek is a stretch, but much of what Engelhart did was out there, with the mystery elf with the gun, the headmen (which did move some pre-hero Atlas characters into Marvel), even the zodiac and red rajah. But from the inception through Valkyrie intro through Avengers/Defenders war; Wrecking Crew intro, the Sons of the Serpent etc. ... The first couple years were actually quite awesome.
  4. I had the same experience when I reread SVTU. Held up much better in memory. The exception is the SVTU 14-Champions 16 crossover that pita Magneto against Dr. Doom. That holds up pretty well. I did like the Shroud as a character.
  5. These were great books as a kid! I loved Richie adventures in the Bronze Age!
  6. Also, I guess since this was my candidate for the most underrated GA cover thread, I ought to put it in under the radar too.
  7. Okay, Enwil cover/remaindered comics -- similar to Blazing Comics #5&6, also Enwil. Must have something to do with how they wound down their business as they went out? Some distributor just made use of the covers to make and ship product???
  8. Oh I know! I'm joking with you too. Truth is I cannot bring myself to dig them out, but I also cannot figure out how to sell, them without looking at them!
  9. I don't know for sure; both seem possible. I lean toward a camp because of the train tracks right there and the trucks driving away, but I know of no way to be certain. Either way, it's one of the few war covers I can think of with this sort of imagery. While Cap 46 is the only unambiguous concentration camp cover I know of (are there others?) this one is on a short list of this sort. I cannot think of too many others.
  10. I thought that was the point of the thread? Comic-induced bulimia???
  11. Thank you, that's what I'm getting at, though not taking it all the way to irrelevance. (Though Platinum books are a caution). As you said, you would argue against Batman sliding into irrelevance. I'm just asking whether GL needs 20 years, let alone 50, to slide into irrelevance. I've had to explain the significance of TTA 27 to younger collectors; I'm thinking this is the GA super-key equivalent -- the one among its peers most likely to not be understood (in terms of significance) by collectors not too far down the line.
  12. I'd have to agree on Atlas/Seaboard....not tough to complete period, other than Vicki, but if trying to do it all in 9.2 or higher, that's tough. And if you throw in their few mags...yeesh!
  13. Been wanting this one a while; wish it were nicer but happy to find it at all
  14. Okay, here's the one I mentioned I was waiting for. I know the guide calls it out as "Nazi firing squad cover" but I still think it's under the radar for most. One could call it a poor man's Cap 46, but how many covers at all take place in a concentration camp?
  15. Thank you; was planning to, but did not know that and could have easily otherwise pulled the trigger on an affordable nice looking later copy.
  16. A thread titled "Horrific SpiderMan Covers" and we're quibbling for 10 pages about Ditko and Romita when Erik Larsen has (dis)graced so many??? I will try to dig some out later from the drek pile from the last copper collection I bought.
  17. Was thinking the same thing. Plenty on the bay, of course not all lowest HRN, but all HRN's offered at affordable levels. Added to my watch list!
  18. Can you say more about its history? I don't know the backstory, but I have seen the book here and there and wondered about it. How's the interior?
