  1. That's a good catch noticing the nod to Frazetta. I remember reading a comic in the eighties where they referenced my local comic shop in Las Vegas Page After Page. Always cool to find these references but ones pertaining to Frazetta, Kirby etc. are always special.
  2. Uhhh, let me ask my brother.
  3. I really liked all his Weapon X stuff. This one is a cover I’ll always think of from the time period. I suspect some serious money will indeed find this one on the final day of auction.
  4. This feels like a very possible situation. As friends, if Dolmayan wanted to buy it you still have to arrive at a fair price. Assume no one beat Dolmayan’s offer they could complete a sale in good faith without that thought in the back of Jim’s mind (I could have done better.)
  5. If you have to ask...... Pretty cool though. I would’ve put this at auction.
  6. Mutts is amazing and always a read when grape ape gets hold of the local fish wrap. Patrick McDonnell knows how to tell a story with art. This for sure would be a “ to do” if I was anywhere close by.
  7. Grape ape loves a good laugh but this “record” without a price reveal has very little upside for the audience. Pig 2,3,4 and 5 coming to streaming so Nick can pay the art off? Good grief! Congrats to Jim Lee though. I love the man’s artwork and he’s always been a cool guy. Glad he held on to the covers this long.
  8. It did sell on eBay in the early 2000’s. Unbelievable piece of history
  9. That’s a fair point. Though it says buyers request I could see where buyer and seller not in a hurry to tell the world how much 💰 involved.
  10. Re: Latverian Tourism Board Spot on comments about Jack Davis and how he was flexible and a major talent. You have two gorgeous examples thanks for sharing them here 👍
  11. He’s the new Don King of original art promotion.
  12. ⛔️ The BS you are about to read is just that. Speculative Bull dookey. Yeah, I h8 fueling this “record” speculation West. We are left to it though with the “private” way this was handled. I think he did get 2.1 M as I just think he had it in mind 500K per cover. Someone with deep pockets could have paid him. I admire Jim for his contributions to comics and in particular what he does as an artist. No doubt Dolmayan has it going on at Torpedo Comics. He’s pretty shrewd and it was an exciting and luring promotion. Buzkill on the decision not to publicize the “record” breaking price. 👎 I was thinking about this last night • An Olympic power lifter is set to lift a record amount of weight. We don’t know how much the weight is because they’ve pulled a black curtain in front of him. Then someone cuts all audio. Five days later the weight lifter and his team come out from behind the curtain with big smiles. They slap each other on the back and high five. 🏋️‍♀️ “ I did it! A new record!” 👨🏼? 👩? “What? What is the new record amount? The TV was blacked out and the sound was off!” 🏋️‍♀️ “uhh... well... it’s a record but I’d prefer to keep it private. You understand, don’t you?”
  13. That’s 💯 % correct Brian. I personally do not recognize this record. It would be like this guy below sending in a videotape claiming to have set a few records without any witnesses. Sorry super secret record breaking price guys. Grape ape refuses to be ‘Billy Mitchelled.’
  14. Jack’s war stories were phenomenal. This is an exemplary page to demonstrate that point.
  15. Terry, those astounding pieces of art floored me. Thanks for posting.
  16. Stefanomjr: 👍 I’m with you. I am not even checking comicarttracker anymore. You said it all. RBerman: 👍 That tactic has long been used by some dealers to show the public what they missed out on and make them salivate for more. I prefer seeing that cleared off or moved to a recently sold page that can be checked away from the main sales page. Also prices (sold) that disappear and are unrecoverable do little to help the public determine FMV. It’s already a struggle as with dealers SOLD can mean: • All or partial trade • Sold but at a lesser price then what the sticker showed On CAF or other sites where pages are offered for sale you’ll also see: • Not really sold at all but listed at a high price that is passed on, taken down and buried in the try again at auction or in two years portfolio, and promoted as SOLD to whet the appetite of collectors who missed out on an item they thought was priced too high(it wasn’t) so when that same page or related page hit the market again for round two • the resistance is penetrated for higher pricing • a new FMV is created out of smoke and mirrors ☹️ pardon that tangent. To your point; New Art should be available art and sold art should be moved within a week tops (I’m being generous). Now I’m certainly not telling the dealers what to do. It’s just my preference. I understand that there is value to showing the public ‘look at me I just sold a hot/valuable/hard to get piece of art.’ Promotion. But clutter is clutter when it’s no longer available to buy. The less I have to wade through the happier I am.
  17. + 1 on Vodou’s praise of Scott. I think Scott always has a good mental attitude about the absurd prices Art commands today. Seeing things he sold for good money back in the day resell for beyond stupid money could sour the human soul. However Scott has handled it with wisdom, grace and humor. That being said, Scott feel free to tell us if you’ve ever broken anything in the house or yelled at a complete stranger after learning of one of those high dollar art resells of pages you owned 😂 just kidding. Mostly yes thank you Scott for the great artwork, the information, wisdom and your sharing. I really love the chat board for the people who contribute to forward the joy that the original art brings us. The insights of veteran artists like Scott add so much to that end.
  18. Rick2you2 is not easily impressed. Let’s just leave it at that. 😂
  19. captain_em it’s a good question but what would a record be? Pat a solid artist and the subject matter certainly timely with Shang Chi. What is your guess for the final price?
