  1. Thank you. That's helpful. As I am perusing these things, it occurred to me that the portable overhead scanners are basically just phone scanners with more setup. I found a cheap iPhone scanner system which is basically just a cardboard scaffolding on which you can place your phone, with some lighting. Seems like such a thing could be jury-rigged at home.
  2. Not me. Give me the art. Grades can be manipulated (as it seems like this one was), and another copy might be found in some guy's attic or basement. Aside from that, I just like the art better. It being cheaper is just icing on the cake. I don't see it dropping in price anytime soon. But, clearly the guy who consigned the comic took a bath. On the first point, I don't like anything being "one of one" based wholly on subjective evaluations by people who can have interests, and motivations that may not be pure. Or, for that matter, subject to human fallibility. Who's to say that 8.5 Action #1 was "worse" than the two 9.0's, or the Mile High copy? A page of silver age comic art is objectively one of one. It's not subject to human frailty, subjective opinions, greed, or other motivations.
  3. I know I disclaimed using a scanner vs a phone, but has anyone tried one of those overhead book scanners rather than the combo scanner/printer? They seem to be cheaper and can be brought to conventions because they can be packed up.
  4. Assuming he believed they were the original pencils, why in the world would you get the original pencils for a published cover inked by someone other than the artist or published inker (or at all), when you know the actual inks exist?
  5. Okay, folks. Would you rather have a certified 9.8 copy of TOS 39 that just sold for $840,000, or the TOS 39 page that just sold for $552,000. Is there is a $290,000 difference in value?
  6. Well, that last Heritage Auction had everything. Including the Kitchen Sink.
  7. Peppermint Patty. The Aunt May of the Peanuts universe.
  8. So happy for Jill, who consigned it. I hope they gave her a break on the commission.
  9. I don't get this one. You could by 3 good Hellboy covers for that. It's really cool, and all, but if you're going to spend that kind of money on a Mignola, you want Hellboy. Just my opinion, FWIW.
  10. Depends on what the market is. I'm sure that Glenn and Rob think they sold low.
  11. Cockrum X-Men 100 page goes for $38K.
  12. That Byrne Surfer page was pretty nice, and sold for $32K.
  13. Camelot 3000 #1 Title Splash goes for $31,000.
  14. Megaton Man 1 full issue goes for $50,000. Wow. I admit that I kind of entertained bidding on that until it went up so much.
  15. No. You asked for comps. I was referring to the discussion among collectors (which included a publicly known offer made by a well-known dealer). I said it was "speculation." But, if you want to discuss that, if the SW 8 panel page/splash went for 3-4 times the cover to either issue, that suggests the comp.
  16. I don't know. How much did the 252 Cover or the SW 8 cover sell for? The were sold privately.
  17. If I recall, the speculation before the Secret Wars 8-page auction was that it would hit $750,000, max. So even from that standpoint, the 252 page is kind of underwhelming.
  18. Not "wow" for the owner of the Secret Wars 8 page. More like an "Ow!" And if I recall, the speculation before the Secret Wars 8-page auction was that it would hit $750,000, max. So from that standpoint, the 252 page is kind of underwhelming.
  19. That Snarf 6 cover is pretty cool. I'm not a Crumb fan, but that one is nice. Explains why it's going for an insane amount of money. $252,000.
  20. $8400 for the historic rough draft of the first Lil Abner strip by Al Capp. Seems low.
